Jonny: Eddie Howe deserves serious credit for his work with Newcastle. Amazing how good players like Almiron are with a bit of confidence and spirit behind them. Now, imagine the wonders Howe could work for England...

Moore: Honestly, if there was ever a time to replace Lloris, this game proves it now, too inconsistent at the highest level.

Mark: Lloris doing his best Jekyll and Hyde impression following his performance at Old Trafford.

Andrew: Lloris has always been overrated. Great shot stopper on his day but has always made far too many mistakes especially for a top six side.

Arunit: Can't believe Spurs signed below mediocre 34 year old Forster over other GK options available in summer like Johnstone, Henderson, Dubravka, Pope, Leno. They all could have pushed Lloris for the first team.

It's really hammering it down at Spurs. Big-time rain.

The cameras show some fans trying to cover their heads with umbrellas, flags and bits of plastic... and then scan to a topless Newcastle fan who looks happy.

Ryan: It does feel like Lloris always has a mistake in him, but let's not forget he was man of the match earlier in the week against Man United. The defending for Almiron's goal was pretty shocking, all round. The rest of the Spurs team need to wake up.

  8. We have to work hard & roll our sleeves up - Cooperpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-3 Fulham

    Leeds United

Leeds captain Liam Cooper to BBC: "I'm angry, disappointed. We've let ourselves down. When we're on top we've got to take our chances and if you don't the pressure comes.

"Their goals were avoidable. We've got to be much better in those areas. We can't give teams chances like that and we've got to rectify that quickly.

"I understand the fans' anger, this club needs to be winning games and we're not doing that at the moment. We have to work hard and roll our sleeves up. We know what's expected of us and we've got to do that.

"We're fully behind the manager. We're all buying into his philosophy. We started well, got the first goal, then conceded a stupid goal - that's down to us. We've got to come out, fists flying, and get a result somewhere. We all have to take responsibility, as players, and get a performance for 90 minutes."

On playing Liverpool next: "It's a tough place to go but we have to do everything we can to get a result."

  9. 'That's what happens when you have belief'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Arsenal

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In the first half we were lucky only to be one goal down. After that, you saw what happens when you have belief.

"We had a few issues in the beginning with the shape, but we made some changes and coped better after that.

"Especially considering we were 1-0 down, it’s a good result."

Tottenham can't complain, they have been nowhere near it. Newcastle have been the better team and deserve this lead. There have been a few chances where Nick Pope made a few good saves. Their eight players apart from Kane and Son need to get forward and help them two. It was the same at Man United in midweek but credit to Newcastle, they've been outstanding.

Guy: So is Wilson supposed to suspend the laws of physics and become elsewhere? Not offside, not a foul, not a handball … a goal all day long

  12. I'm here for the long term - Marschpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Leeds 2-3 Fulham

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch to Sky Sports: "We had a good start but we find ways to hurt ourselves and give up goals that we shouldn't. You can see our confidence is not at it's highest and it comes down to basics again.

"We didn't defend well enough, we weren't ready for those moments. It's painful and we have to do better in those situations.

"I'm work tirelessly [for the players] to gain confidence, stay strong and keep pushing. We have to do better and I'm responsible for that.

"I'm here for the long term. I love this club, I'm investing everything I have to try to make us better."

    On Newcastle's first goal

#Ryan: Just me that doesn't think it was a goal? If Lloris had done that to Wilson, he'd have been sent off

Sho: Even though they came to the right decision there's the issue with VAR in a nutshell. Looking for a foul, handball and offside. Why are you looking for reasons to disallow a goal? Thought it was meant to be clear and obvious?

Paul: Lloris to blame for both goals really. No clearance for first goal and a rubbish clearance for 2nd goal. This game is a prime example of why no major club has ever made an effort to sign Lloris even when a lot of them need a goalie. Too many errors in him.
