  1. 'Lucky' Mari out for two months after being stabbedpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

The Arsenal players and staff have just posed as a group at the Emirates holding a shirt with Pablo Mari's name on it.

We want to send all our best wishes to the Gunners man, who was stabbed in an Italian supermarket this week.

Marí says he feels "lucky" to have escaped life-threatening injuries after being attacked and seeing "a person die in front of me" in the incident.

Milan's Niguarda hospital performed surgery to reconstruct two injured muscles in Marí's back.

Supermarket employee Luis Fernando Ruggieri, 47, has been named as the man killed in Thursday's attack in Milan.

Another employee was left injured along with four customers, including Marí.

Ruggieri had worked at the Carrefour supermarket for three years - all 12 of the company's shops in Italy observed a minute's silence for him on Friday.

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC 5 Live

As they go into this game today, Nottingham Forest are an interesting side because they have played some good football and they're on a good run of form.

What happens if Forest take the lead? What's the tone amongst the fans in the stadium? What's the expectation level? are they thinking we should be doing better and it not actually be a crisis?

For the Arsenal fans that I know, they will be thinking 'oh typical, this is what they do.'

  3. 'Nottingham Forest play exciting football'published at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Not to underestimate Nottingham Forest, they're high on confidence and momentum from that Liverpool game.

They play some really exciting football so it will be really interesting to see the two dynamics of the two teams playing.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

This is top of the table versus bottom, but the way last weekend's games went for both teams made me stop and think about this one a bit more.

I am still going for Arsenal to win, but they looked a bit tired in the second half of their draw with Southampton on Sunday, and they have got a Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday too.

Forest have been a bit more stubborn in their past couple of games and have kept two clean sheets. They seem to have found a bit of defensive stability and it is down to Arsenal to find a way through.

Because they are at home, I have to back the Gunners, but these next few weeks before the season stops for the World Cup will tell us a lot about their squad, and whether it is strong enough.

    Dapz's prediction: 3-0

We're going for the win here, of course we are! We're not conceding, either. I'm just really pleased with the way we have reacted to the end of last season, when we just fell short of making the Champions League. It was really disappointing, especially to see Spurs get in instead, but the way the team has responded to that setback is brilliant. Look at us now.

  5. 'Arteta has brought a winning mentality with his signings'published at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

Joining Chris Sutton for this weekend's Premier League predictions is rapper and Arsenal fan Dapz on the Map.

Despite being born in Birmingham, Dapz says he has been an Arsenal fan "since 1996" adding "it's only because of my dad - he's not a massive football supporter but he used to follow them because he had family in north London".

Dapz said the aim now for the current Arsenal side is to emulate the quality and style of the Gunners at the peak of the Arsene Wenger era.

"I actually don't think we are that far away. The way Mikel Arteta is building his team, I feel like we are maybe two transfer windows away from being at that level again," he said.

"By signing people like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who have won it and done it, he has brought a winning mentality to the squad.

"It's not just the big games where we are different now, it's against teams where in the past we were expected to brush them aside but ended up losing. We've eradicated that now, and we are hard to beat even when we don't play well.

"I didn't expect us to be top right now, but I am not surprised by our results because this has been coming. I watched us in pre-season and we looked like we meant business, and then we made a big statement when we went to Crystal Palace for our first game."

  6. 'People expect Arsenal to drop'published at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

    Jose Enrique
Former Liverpool and Villarreal left-back on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Arsenal will win the game and I believe this is going to take pressure from them because people, myself included, excepted Arsenal to drop and Manchester City to be the Premier League winners.

So really, that pressure of them dropping off and if they win the league it's a miracle so I think that takes some pressure from them.

  7. 'Arsenal are a very good side'published at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC 5 Live

The wobble in the league comes from dropping points in one game, we're all talking about how they've dropped two points. Even though Arsenal have been at the top, some people don't look at them as being a team that can sustain their time at the top.

So the moment they stop winning games it's like this is Arsenal, isn't it? They're under a bit of pressure, they're starting to crumble but the reality is they are still a very good side. Are we really saying they are not going to win at Nottingham Forest?

  9. Pick of the stats...published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

    • Arsenal have won each of their past seven Premier League games against promoted sides, last winning eight in a row between January 2013 and April 2014. At home, the Gunners are unbeaten in 34 games against promoted teams (W29 D5), since a 1-0 loss to Newcastle in November 2010.
    • This is Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League match at Emirates Stadium. Only two of the previous 40 away sides to play there in the competition have won their first game there (West Ham in 2007 and Hull in 2008), with 15 of the last 16 losing their first game (D1).
    • Arsenal's Granit Xhaka has scored three Premier League goals this season, as many as he had in his previous three campaigns combined, while only in 2018-19 has he ever scored more (4). This could be his 200th Premier League appearance, at least 42 more than any other Arsenal player since he joined in 2016.
    • Following their 1-0 win against Liverpool last time out, Nottingham Forest are looking to win consecutive Premier League games for the first time since their final three in the 1998-99 campaign. However, Forest are without a win on the road so far this season (D2 L4), failing to score in each of their past four.
  10. Team news - Arsenal unchanged from Southampton, one change for Forestpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest (14:00 GMT)

Having made several changes for Thursday's Europa League game at PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reverts back to his first-choice XI.

In other words, Arteta sticks with the line-up that started last week's draw with Southampton.

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Odegaard (capt), Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus.

Subs: Hein, Tierney, Nketiah, Holding, Soares, Vieira, Lokonga, Nelson, Marquinhos.

Forest boss Steve Cooper makes just one change from the win over Liverpool, with Renan Lodi replacing Neco Williams at left-back.

Scott McKenna and Ryan Yates are the only survivors from Forest's 1-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal in January.

Forest XI: Henderson, Aurier, Cook, McKenna, Lodi, Yates (capt), Freuler, Kouyate, Gibbs-White, Lingard, Awoniyi.

Subs: Hennessey, Worrall, Mangala, Williams, O'Brien, Surridge, Johnson, Dennis, Boly.

These results and the rest have led to a Premier League that is toight. Like a tiger. Especially in the bottom half.

Just a couple of wins separate the side at the base of the division and the one in 11th.

Today, Forest could go level on points with the side in 15th, although their goal difference may well mean they stay in the bottom three.

West Ham can move from 13th to ninth.

Much of the focus, though, especially in our first game, is whether Arsenal can move that all important one step up, from second to first.

If Spurs think they have issues, what then of Liverpool?!

It's all going wrong for Jurgen Klopp's Reds, who last week lost to Nottingham Forest to end their run of nine games without a win. On Saturday, they were beaten at home by Leeds, who had previously gone eight matches without victory.

Their strikers aren't firing how they used to, the midfield looks lightweight and Virgil van Dijk isn't quite the imperious presence he once was.

Clearly, they're too good to suffer for too long. But there's work to do. And a lot of it.

On the flip side, I think Jesse Marsch (who looked to be on his way out after last weekend's loss to Fulham) can breathe much easier now.

  13. Spurs' sigh of reliefpublished at 12:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Spurs are a funny old side.

Antonio Conte looked to have them sorted this season in the opening weeks. And then just recently, it appears to have started to lift off the rails. Losses to Manchester United and Newcastle - two sides with matching ambitions of a top-four spot - have left people wondering if there are serious issues.

On Saturday, they were dicing with disaster, staring down the barrel at a third straight defeat, this one (and with all due respect to Bournemouth) most embarrassing of the lot.

However, they showed some serious backbone to drag themselves back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in injury time thanks to Rodrigo Bentancur's goal.

Next up? Oh it's just a crunch Champions League group game in Marseilles followed by a visit from Liverpool. That mettle is going to get tested a lot more.

Meanwhile, at St James' Park, Newcastle were efficiently brushing another team aside, this time Aston Villa.

Miguel Almiron scored. He tends to do that these days. As did Callum Wilson. Twice. He's now on a lot of people's World Cup radar, including Gareth Southgate's you'd imagine. After all, it's not like there are many other forward's making a case to be Harry Kane's understudy.

Arguably one of the least interesting bits of Saturday's Premier League action was the game that saw Manchester City move to the top of the division. A routine 1-0 win at Leicester.

Then things got a bit wild in places. Brighton went wild all over Chelsea to give new boss Roberto De Zerbi an emphatic first win at the expense of the man he replaced, Graham Potter.

Inevitably, Potter's post-match chat was the one most people wanted to hear...

We'll have some team news for that first game at the Emirates at 1pm.

It'll also be covered live and in full on BBC Radio 5 Live (actually, both of today's Premier League games are), with build-up starting at 12pm.

Before then, allow me to do a bit of filling by looking back on yesterday's fun. The clocks changed last night so you might have woken up in a bit of forgetful daze.

  17. The stakes...published at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Today, our focus is on a battle between a side looking to stage an unexpected challenge for the big prize against a side with a rich past and a serious scalp in their back pocket from last weekend.

Arsenal will go top if they win. Nottingham Forest will lift themselves off the bottom if they bag the three points.

Then, to follow, we have a massive club who appear to be creaking back to life against one keen to show that they're not reverting to type after two years of progress.

Manchester United can keep up the heat on that top quartet and extend their recent fine run with victory. A West Ham win means they are likely to head towards the World Cup looking up rather than over their shoulder.

  18. Postpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

We've become so accustomed to the same old sides competing for the same old spots that we just take for granted it is just going to be four from six every season.

It may well end up being exactly the same this campaign. After all, there is still a fair old way to go yet.

But we're getting little glimpses that the established order has a few cracks in it, and at least one eager young pup is looking to break up the old boys network.
