  2. 'They took their moments'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Everton 0-2 Leicester

    Everton

Everton boss Frank Lampard, speaking to Sky Sports: "Possession was pretty even in the fist half then they scored a goal out of the world. A difficult game. You have to respect the way they play and they deserved the win on that.

"It was difficult for the lads because I thought we were doing well. Then they score and you try and get the lads up at half-time, they came out well and we got that big chance but then we started to get some injuries. That maybe broke our momentum to keep pushing top the end."

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury: "It was a sensation in the hamstring. We will scan it. We don't feel like it is a bad injury but we have to wait for the scan.

"You have to respect Leicester for what they are. They have been together for a few years and quality players at the top end of the pitch.

"I am not disappointed with commitment and effort. They took their moments well and we didn't take ours. It is a game we have to put away now and move on."

  3. 'It will be a battle this year'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Everton 0-2 Leicester

    Everton

Everton boss Frank Lampard speaking to BBC Sport: "They are a good team, they've been together a long time and have strong players and are well coached. There is no reason we have the right to win games. Leicester played very well and it wasn't our day.

"One of the games we take responsibility for but things slightly conspired against us.

"There are parts of us we are putting together, no doubt about it. It is going to be a battle this year, days like today can happen. I am the last one to accept them, but they do happen.

"We have to bounce back quickly, resilience is the most important thing.

"Maybe two steps forward and one back? That is the reality. It is not a straight road. I felt we went toe to toe with them at times in the way we pressed and won the ball back. This is one step back where we take it on the chin and look at what we can do better."

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury:"Hamstring sensation. We feel it is at the light end of that sort of injury but we will scan it on Monday."

Leicester's Youri Tielemans to BBC Sport on James Maddison's World Cup hopes: "I hope so for him. It's not my decision. What he’s doing, with his stats, he’s been so influential. Scoring goals, two assists today. He’s doing all the good peformances he can do. It’s up to the England manager."

  6. 'Maddison is the best there is in his role'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Sport: "Very pleased. We started the game so well, Goodison Park is a really difficult place to come. The crowd supports the team and gives them encouragement.

"With the ball we were excellent, we could show a little more composure but overall everything I want from my team, strong resilient defending and attacking football. Very good."

On Youri Tielemans: "Tielemans is a big talent, his concentration is superb and he only scores worldies! It was a wonderful strike. Top player."

On James Maddison: "He is playing for the team, he is a very unselfish player. He does the work, he does the pressing and then arrives into the right spaces. A big talent who always looks like he will create and score goals.

"Every coach will support their own players but for James it is an exceptional case. If I look at him the last 18 months he has been consistent with his performance level, maturity, If you want to play creative attacking football he is one of the best there is in the country at that in the toughest league in the world."

On recovering from a poor start to the season: "It was just staying patient and composed. Experience gives you that. I have always had this group who have been brilliant since I first walked through the door. The spirit is there. It was just a case of time, giving them patience and developing the team and thankfully they are playing with confidence.

"We have to continue with this level."

    FT: Everton 0-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

More from Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, on James Maddison and whether he should be in the England squad: "It is not a debate for me. I respect there are so many top players, so many attacking players doing well but if you can't find a player of that quality that has produced consistently as he has then it is obviously sad.

"You want to be creating and scoring goals and he is one of the best out there. He has risks at the right moment. An absolutely brilliant player who is ready for a World Cup with his maturity. He can do no more. He is an outstanding talent."

  10. 'We are playing with confidence again'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Everton 0-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we were very good tonight. Really difficult place to come, with the crowd. We knew we had to come and play well and defend well and I thought we did both well.

"You have to defend well to win games and we have a rythmn now that is much better. Our composure with the ball was also excellent. We didn't give much away. A little pressure from corners but we looked like we couild score and overall it was a good balance in defending and attacking.

"There's no doubt [we are more resilient]. If you look at the first seven games we conceded 22 goals and in the last seven it is three. It was a matter of time, we missed players and with the summer we had it was difficult. We regrouped and continued to work. I am a development coach and we developed the players confidence and you could see it tonight.

    "Some outstanding football."

Looking up the table now? "It is continual growth. It is a long season. After the start we had the players have responded brilliantly and playing with confidence again. We just want to keep climbing the table and see where we can finish before the break."

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Youri Tielmans, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very important to be out of the bottom three. It is not good to be down there.

"The results put you down a bit but in the international break we came together, that put us in a good mood and wins like today feel really good."

On his goal: "I am really happy, it was one of them where I tried to hit it perfectly and it was really good."

  15. 'I'd be lying if I said World Cup not on my mind'published at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

    FT: Everton 0-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester midfielder James Maddison, speaking to Sky Sports: "The result is what we are after at this stage when you don't have a good start but look at the performance today, from Wardy all the way through the 11 we were great today.

"We stifled them, brilliant, everything you want from an away performance was there today.

"How much you lot talk about being in the bottom three, I think that puts that to bed now.

"You obviously always want the second goal to put the game to bed. We have a fairly young group but one that has been together for a while now under the gaffer, so we are experienced now so at 1-0 you know you have to stay compact, but the second goal was a relief."

On whether he is hoping for an World Cup call-up: "I would be lying if I said it was not in my mind because the World Cup is nearly here and that is the pinnacle. I always say the same answer, if I focus on my performance for Leicester hopefully that does catch the eye of the England manger, but that is out of my control."

You wouldn't argue that that was anything other than the correct scoreline. Breaking brilliantly, knowing when to break, when to hold the ball. Leicester have been fantastic. Great play from the forwards and midfielders but they weren't giving away much at the back either.

I think Brendan Rodgers will think 'I won't look down again from here for the rest of the season, I'm only looking up.' Frank Lampard won't have the ability to do that. He will have a big battle until the end of the season unless they can get someone who will score goals.
