    Newcastle United

Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock, speaking to Sky Sports: "We know what we needed to do. The manager put in a good game plan and we deserved to win. In the first half we dominated and the last pass wasn't quite there. We got the goal and the clean sheet.

"I have been practising shooting in training to be fair. I have been missing scoring in front of these fans so to get a goal today is brilliant for me and the team.

"These games bring up high emotions. Both teams want to win and these things happen [at the end]."

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope: "The big games are there to go after for us. We have done that really well this season. The crowd are really behind us in this stadium.

"The boys didn't give me too much to do so it is good to chip in when I can. You will have moments when you need to make big saves and blocks [like from Conor Gallagher]. The boys were tremendous in front of me and pressed really well. The game plan that was put together, we really believed in it.

"As soon as I signed I felt the excitement in the city and I am over the moon with how it started.

"When the big tournaments [World Cup] are around there will always be people who miss out so we are glad to get through it [without getting injured]."

  10. Arsenal top of the Premier League's Christmas treepublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    Wolves v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

Manchester City's defeat earlier today means Arsenal will be top on Christmas Day no matter what happens at Molineux tonight.

The last time they did that was in 2007 - and they didn't win the title.

There is a major caveat as the season will have reached Christmas with fewer games played than ever before in the Premier League era.

Still, if Mikel Arteta's men win and go five points clear, they will be in a very strong position.

I think Arsenal have done enough to prove that they are title contenders. Doesn’t matter how well or how bad you’re playing, there’s going to be a twist somewhere. You’re either going to continue to win and lose a silly game that you should win or vice versa.

I think Arsenal have done enough to say ‘right, our hat is well and truly in the ring.’ I like Mikel Arteta, I think he’s doing things the right way. They play some good stuff and they’ve got a little bit of steel about them now which is nice. They are in the title race, definitely.

    Wolves v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

Wolves are bottom of the table and will spend the World Cup break in the relegation zone.

They are the division's lowest scorers, with eight goals - none of which have come after the 56th minute.

Their shot conversion rate of 4.8% is also the worst in the top flight.

Peter Josi: At Chelsea we spent about $300m only to make our team worse than before. Never before has so much money been spent on such ineffective players. The problems are obvious creativity in midfield and players who are ready to fight for the team.

Manchester City's surprise defeat by Brentford guarantees that Arsenal will be top at Christmas.

A win today would take them five points clear.

But... the last time the Gunners were top at Christmas and won the title was in 1947-48.

Wolves have a new manager at last in Julen Lopetegui and, although interim boss Steve Davis stays in charge for this game, that makes it more dangerous for Arsenal.

Gunners fans probably weren't that bothered about going out of the Carabao Cup in midweek, because the Premier League is their priority.

Arsenal played with such confidence when they beat Chelsea last weekend, and Mikel Arteta said afterwards that they are title contenders.

If that is the case, they will win at Molineux. They should do, because they have got a goal threat and defensive stability too.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-2

Newcastle deserved it. That bit of pushing and shoving from Chelsea was the most fight we have seen from them all night. Newcastle thoroughly deserved it. Chelsea nice on the eye, but they don't go anywhere. They don't create anything.

You can see why they've lost the last few games. Graham Potter has a big job on his hands to turn this club around. I know he'll have the resources but it's all about Newcastle United at the moment. The place is buzzing, the players are so confident. They don't want this break for the World Cup.

Alf Wilson: Newcastle are a bit like Arsenal in the sense that they A) Have a top, top coach and B) Have improved front to back, man for man fourfold. Potter is great but he needs a couple of transfer windows minimum.
