GOAL - Fulham 1-1 Southamptonpublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2022

    James Ward-Prowse (56 mins)

    WOW.

A stunning free-kick from James Ward-Prowse. He's done it before and he'll no doubt do it again.

He fires it perfectly into the bottom right corner from about 25 yards out and wheels away in celebration.

    Game on.

    Man City 1-0 Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn't had much to play with. Amadou Onana played in Vitalii Mykolenko down the left a few moments ago but his cross was poor.

Everton's players can use this time to come up with a plan of how to find a way back into the game as the assistant referee needs to fix some technical equipment. Erling Haaland stands posing and joking with a few fans near the touchline.

I'd ask Callum Wilson if he could give Newcastle half an hour because they don't look like they are going to score. Not getting anything from Almiron and Joelinton today so Howe has got to change it.

    Newcastle 0-0 Leeds

Rodrigo has been quiet in this game but he has a moment now as he drifts out to the right to pick up the ball and gets into the box but his cutback is smothered by Nick Pope.

  5. CLOSE!published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2022

    Fulham 1-0 Southampton

Willian's cross is overcooked but it's kept in by Bobby De Cordova-Reid on the far side. He fizzes it towards the near post where Andreas Pereira is waiting but he slices it inches wide. Huge chance!

    Save!

Eberechi Eze's free-kick curls and dips towards the far corner of the net and Mark Travers has to dive to his left to push it away.

As things stand, Haaland has as many goals in the league as Wolves and Forest have managed combined - do we really need to wait till May to give him the Golden Boot?

    Bournemouth 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Massive chance for Bournemouth!

Dominic Solanke hits towards goal on the turn but the shot is parried by Vicente Guaita. The ball bounces in the box and is there to be met by Kieffer Moore, but he can't get his jump right under pressure to head the ball goalwards.

It's all the encouragement the home fans need. They're roaring the Cherries on.

Another set piece for Newcastle in a decent position. Kieran Trippier sends the ball into the box and finds Fabian Schar at the far post. Schar shifts the ball onto his other foot but then lashes over.

City start off where they left, pinging it around comfortably as Bernardo Silva's cross is put out for a throw-in on the far side.

    Bournemouth 0-2 Crystal Palace

Signs of Bournemouth committing more to attack this half. They have no choice, of course, but it does mean Palace - who have plenty of pace in their side - will have good opportunities to counter.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2022

Leeds make a change for the second half as on comes Marc Roca for Adam Forshaw.

Samuel Edozie has been a bright spark for Southampton on the left. He does well to control a heavy pass then cuts inside and switches it across to the other side as the Saints start the half well.

Jordan Ayew is immediately annoying the home fans again.

He goes in for a tackle with Sikiri Dembele and comes off worst, goes down and gets a free-kick. That did look a foul to be fair!

    Chris Wise
BBC Radio 5 Live commentator at the Vitality Stadium

That first-half was a microcosm of Bournemouth’s entire season.

They’ve conceded more first-half goals and more goals from corners than any other Premier League team in 2022/23.

  19. 'It’s a mistake that can happen'published at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2022

    FT: Wolves 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United player Marcus Rashford speaking to BT Sport: "Obviously, it’s the team rules, you know, it’s a mistake that can happen. I am obviously disappointed not to start but I understand the decision and obviously I am happy that we managed to win the game. So I think we can draw a line under it and move on."

(Question: What did you get in trouble for?): "I was a little bit late for a meeting. I slept in, I overslept. It can happen."

On his own personal form and Manchester United's performance: "I think I am in a good place; I am just pleased with the way we are progressing; I think in the past we could have easily lost that game or definitely draw it. Even with us scoring one goal, they put a lot of pressure on us, we stood up to it, defended well and David had to make one massive save at the end.

"It was a difficult game; we have always found it difficult to come here and win.

"It is difficult too come back from the World Cup, emotion-wise everyone is at different levels but it has been important for us to stick together and help each other through a difficult moment for the lads that didn’t win the World Cup.

"It is going to be tough, we are going to push ourselves and try to get as high up the table as possible. A lot of teams are doing well, being consistent and we must try to keep up with them."

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Set pieces have been the best part of Newcastle's game today. In general play they have looked very sloppy and off the pace. Leeds have worked very hard but they are lacking a number nine. Their energy and work rate has been tremendous.
