Arsenal have scored in their last 17 games in the Premier League, their longest run of games with a goal in the competition since a run of 20 games from 18 August 2018 to 1 January 2019.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been involved in 12 goals in his last 13 Premier League appearances (seven goals, five assists).

He’s had a hand in more league goals this season (12 in 15 apps) than in the entirety of 2021-22 (11 in 36 apps).

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, speaking to BBC Sport: "Our captain [Martin Odegaard] is playing amazing. He does so much for the team. He is the orchestra of our team. He is a really efficient captain. He does a lot of talking on the pitch."

On Manchester City drawing with Everton earlier: "We just try and focus on ourselves but when we heard that result it gave us extra motivation to try and press on and get a result today."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a strange game. We suffered four strange goals in a strange way but we played a good game. In the second half, we were better for sure.

"I am really sorry for the result but for the performance I am happy. We made some mistakes for sure but we are a very young team with very young players.

"I respect Arsenal a lot. They have very important players, a great coach. If we are speaking about this game I think my team played a great game."

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Sport: "[They were] really tricky opponents. Tonight we had to have a big performance to win against a really good Brighton side and I think we did that. We had to dig in as well.

"They dominate a lot of phases of play. They do a lot of things but we did a lot of things well today to earn the right to win.

"Martin Odegaard had some big moments. He produces in the right moment.

"[We have] a lot of things to improve, especially in defending moments. We still have room to improve.

"We knew the result [of the Manchester City game] but the boost is we have to come here and win and to do that we have to perform at the highest level in the league.

"It means nothing because our only focus is again is to improve."

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "A big win against a really good side. We were ruthless and clinical and there were moments as well we had to dig in and suffer because they are a really good side. It was a big test for us.

"We were a real threat every time we were around the final third."

On going seven points clear: "We have to play every game, now we have to focus again and review the match to see what we did well and things we can improve.

"We know what happened but we have to focus on what we can do which was to come here against a difficult side and win.

"We have enough desire. Our success is going to be with what we have to do. This is what we want and we have to keep improving as a team and play better and dominate in all areas."

Dean: The talk of titles is fantasy stuff for Arsenal; but 13 points above 5th surely makes Champions League football next season genuinely achievable. That has to be our realistic target.

James: Lifelong Arsenal fan. Loving the season so far. I still think City will win the league; their strength in depth dwarfs ours and, as well as our starting 11 is doing, our bench is very average. But I'll enjoy it while it lasts!

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard speaking to Sky Sports on whether Manchester City's failure to beat Everton earlier in the day affected his team: "To be honest, we focus on ourselves. We don't care about the other teams. Three points was everyting today and we did it. Maybe we need to control the game a bit better, we let them in a couple of times, but they are a good team, good on the ball."

On his own goal:"I think it was a great goal! I am happy to help the team with goals and assists and I am very happy to do that again."

On his assist to set up Arsenal's fourth: "I saw there was a lot of space in behind and our wingers are so quick. It is not easy to stop Gabriel Martinelli in that position."

Adam: Chelsea v Man City now looks like a massive fixture for City. Lose and they could end up 10 points behind Arsenal. Wow.

Arsenal

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, speaking to Sky Sports about the Gunners being seven points clear: "[It] sounds amazing. Of course at the start of the season if you asked us if we wanted this we would bite your hand off. We are really happy."

On his side's quick start: "There was big emphasis. We know how hard it is to come here and the weather as well - it wasn't easy. That goal nice and early set us up. I couldn't believe it fell for me. I just had to try and show some composure."

And on Arsenal's chances in the rest of the season: "It is a great opportunity we have - a great place we have put ourselves in. We are not focusing on that now. We are focusing on the next game because we know how well Newcastle have been playing."

Prince: Arsenal got the 2022 part of job done. Let’s do it again in 2023.

That's after Tottenham (1960-61), Chelsea (2005-06), Man City (2017-18) and Liverpool (2019-20).

Six goals and six different goal scorers - a great game to finish off 2022.

I've really enjoyed the game. For the last game of this year, it has been a fabulous one. Arsenal have shown their quality in lots of ways.

You have to give Brighton great credit for sticking in there. I think they were unfortunate not to get the third goal.

Both sides have come out of this game with a lot of credit. They have both showed quality, resilience and Arsenal have certainly got that real, real class.

Fantastic game of football, goals, good play by both teams. Arsenal go marching on, seven points clear.

It was a little more uncomfortable than they'd have liked but Arsenal get the job done and move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Gabriel is tugging the shirt of Jeremy Sarmiento. Half a shout for a penalty but no-one appeals for it.

There's not enough time now for Brighton to stage a stunning comeback but what a go they've given it.

Lewis Dunk nods just over from a corner as Brighton keep up the pressure.
