    Aston Villa 2-1 Man City

Now then. Laura Coombs' goal very much changes the complexion of the game, but for 45 minutes Aston Villa were very much on top.

Alisha Lehmann opened the scoring before Rachel Daly added an excellent second.

Villa looked like they were heading for the break with a two-goal cushion, but Hannah Hampton's failure to keep Coombs' shot out gives City hope and leaves the game delicately poised.

    An intriguing second half awaits...

    Laura Coombs

Man City get a goal back right on the cusp of half-time and it's a gift as Laura Coombs' shot eludes Hannah Hampton's grasp.

The Villa keeper won't want to see that one again.

I've not seen a Manchester City team that gives a ball away as much as I have seen in the opening 40 minutes. We are so used to seeing the crisp passing from Manchester City.

Villa win another corner and it finds Anna Patten, who misjudges her header from just outside the six-yard area and lets City off the hook this time.

The execution of this strike from Daly is fantastic and bends it. The goalkeeper obviously has no chance of getting anywhere near it.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Man City

City win a free-kick down the right and it's Chloe Kelly who whips it in.

Villa clear but only as far as Steph Houghton, whose shot is saved.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Man City

Chloe Kelly has a pop from distance but it's saved by Hannah Hampton.

Rescuing a draw is going to be a real challenge for City now against a Villa side that look superior in pretty much every department.

  9. goal

    Rachel Daly

    What a goal!

Dream debut for Rachel Daly, who curls a superb right-footed shot into the top corner on the half-turn after Alisha Lehmann stops City from sufficiently clearing a corner.

It goes from bad to worse for the visitors.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Man City

Better from City as Laura Coombs' looping cross finds Khadija Shaw, but the Jamaican's header lacks the power necessary to trouble Hannah Hampton.

Lauren Hemp drives towards the byline but overruns the ball and Villa can reset.

Really impressive stuff from the hosts so far.

Aston Villa have been setting traps on every goal kick that Manchester City have tried to play. They've done it here. Manchester City tried to play out and Villa have set a trap.

Villa come forward again but Rachel Daly fires over the bar.

City don't look comfortable at all - and Villa sense that.

Villa give the ball away in a dangerous area and it allows Lauren Hemp to get her shot away from outside the area.

No trouble for Villa keeper Hannah Hampton, though.

Steph Houghton is an honest player. She didn't play enough minutes last season to warrant a place in the Lionesses squad. She knows it herself and was heart-breaking as it was, but she did everything she could to be there.

She will be excited to be back with this Man City team and leading them again. We've already seen her qualities within this game. The quality is still there.

Impressive organisation from the hosts in the opening quarter of an hour. They look sharp and well up for this.

Aleixandri seems to be very comfortable in these tight areas and played her way out of trouble to set up an attack.
