Interestingly Fran Kirby has gone to the left with four of her previous five penalties.

Chelsea are starting to take control now. Liverpool have looked organised in periods since conceding but the spaces are opening up again now. New signing Kadeisha Buchanan is causing problems with her passing out from the back and goalkeeper Rachael Laws was furious with her Liverpool team-mates for allowing Erin Cuthbert a shot from range under little pressure just now.

That's the first time Liverpool have looked like breaking Chelsea down. Leanne Kiernan rounds the goalkeeper and hits the post but she is offside regardless.

Chelsea then go straight up the other end and Sam Kerr will be disappointed that she took too heavy a touch while one-on-one with Laws and overran a good chance.

Liverpool have weathered a bit of a storm right now. Who would have written that Chelsea would have been 1-0 up after one minute through a penalty? I think they've had a good comeback.

I think they're putting together a good performance and it's clear they'll know when they will get their chances.

Fran Kirby loops a ball over to Sam Kerr who beats Rachel Laws with a lovely finish on the half-volley but it's ruled out for offside. That was very tight.

Ceri Holland goes into the book after a pull-back on Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert.

Lauren James has played a big part in Chelsea's attack so far. She seems to be sitting in more of a right-wing-back role rather than being in the expected position of striker. A lot of the visitors' chances have come through her play on the right-hand side.

Chelsea are pushing for a second goal with relentless pressure on the Liverpool defence. The Reds had a brief moment going forwards but it's otherwise been all Chelsea.

American Tom Glick, Chelsea's new president of business, is here today to watch the women play alongside board member Barbara Charone.

Chelsea are overloading on the left-hand side and are getting a lot of joy so far through Niamh Charles and Fran Kirby. It's an area where Liverpool are looking vulnerable.

Emma Koivisto will feel she should've done better as she knees the ball over from only a few yards out after Chelsea keeper Zecira Musovic drops a catch.

What a great start for Chelsea! Fran Kirby had a straight run-up and I am actually a bit surprised that Laws went to that side.

I thought that she was going to dive on her left. I thought it was a little bit clear that Kirby was going to go on her right. Fran Kirby would be delighted with that goal.

Chelsea very nearly have another as Guro Reiten sprints forward but her ball across to a free Fran Kirby is intercepted.

Well, that was not the start Liverpool or debutant Gilly Flaherty would have wanted.

Chelsea, as usual, ruthless from the start. Liverpool are reminded of their challenge in the WSL this season.

Chelsea have avoided defeat in their last 25 matches when scoring the opening goal in the English Women's Super League dating back to 10th February 2021 against Arsenal.
