  1. Chelsea looking to break a recordpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

    Liverpool v Chelsea (17:00 BST)

Emma Hayes’ side achieved a third consecutive WSL title last year and finished the season with a nine-game winning run. A tenth today would break the WSL record for a winning streak.

Here's what the stats say about this evening's match:

    • Chelsea have won each of their last nine matches in the Barclays WSL, the joint-longest ongoing run in the competition along with Manchester City. The Blues have never previously recorded 10 consecutive wins in the competition
    • Hayes’ side have only won their opening match in one of the last four seasons (D2 L1), with Arsenal winning 2-1 vs West Ham in 2019-20. Chelsea lost 3-2 to Arsenal last season on the first matchday.
    • Chelsea have won 12 and drawn one of their last 13 matches against Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 39 goals while conceding eight in return during this run. These will be the first meeting between the two sides since an FA Cup fifth round tie in February 2020, which Chelsea won 1-0.

    Leicester 1-2 Tottenham

Tottenham begin the season with three points!

Ashleigh Neville and Drew Spence both scored fantastic long-range efforts to put Spurs in the driving seat at the break, and while Spence's own goal on 59 minutes gave the hosts renewed hope, they were unable to find an equaliser.

It's the ideal start to the season for Tottenham - they'll go into next week's north London derby full of belief.

  3. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

    West Ham 1-0 Everton

It wasn't the most stylish of victories, but Lisa Evans' first-half headed opener led West Ham to a victory over Everton on the opening day.

It was an even game between the two but Evans made the most of the game's best chance and provided the goal which made the difference.

Liverpool are hoping for a record crowd here at Prenton Park with around 3,000 tickets said to have been sold.

The previous highest crowd here is 2,138 which was set in their final game of the Championship season against Sheffield United in April when they lifted the trophy in front of fans.

It would continue the trend of growing crowds in the WSL on the opening weekend off the back of a successful home Euros.

Everton are still going for it with Izzy Christiansen firing off a long-range effort but it looks like they won't be able to snatch a late leveller.

    Liverpool v Chelsea (17:00 BST)

    BBC Sport at Prenton Park

Chelsea's Pernille Harder has been replaced in the starting XI late on. Sophie Ingle comes in. I'm told it is just a precaution as she felt a niggle in the warm-up. She won't be on the bench though.

We're also told Liverpool's Shanice van de Sanden had a bit of an injury during the international break but is expected to return for next weekend's Merseyside derby against Everton.

It's already busy around Prenton Park as both sets of supporters have been gathering in the pub next door with flags and scarves.

It's always a chilly night here but defending champions Chelsea will be hoping to entertain their fans and keep them warm.

They are bidding for an unprecedented fourth WSL title in a row, while Liverpool are back in the top-flight and hoping to make an impression.

  17. Postpublished at 77 mins

    Leicester 1-2 Tottenham

The game's just going through a bit of a lull at the moment, which suits Spurs of course.

Leicester must summon a surge of inspiration from somewhere if they're to rescue a draw in the closing stages.

  19. Postpublished at 76 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Everton

Everton haven't done much to threaten in this game but they're starting to change that. Gabby George has just whipped in a terrific cross but Katja Snoeijs can't get enough on it to send it goalwards.
