    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

The tackles are flying. Ashleigh Neville goes in hard on Katie McCabe and Arsenal have a free-kick.

It's already looking like a long hard battle for Spurs. Arsenal have won their past nine WSL games and have had seven clean sheets on the spin.

  2. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

    Superb from Steph Catley.

The Arsenal player takes on three players high up the pitch and very nearly creates an opening.

Tottenham are really struggling to get a foothold on this game.

  3. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

Three attempts. One on target. One goal.

Any fears Arsenal might freeze in front of such a big crowd have vanished.

    They're bossing this.

  4. 'How many times have we seen this?'published at 13:41 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

She drifted out of the left-hand side off that front three, we know exactly what she can do. Opens her body up and how many times have we seen this? We had the pleasure of being right behind Beth Mead on this occasion. You can see the far post gaping and Rebecca Spencer in the Spurs goal has absolutely no chance. Spurs look disorganised at the back.

  5. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

Now Katie McCabe has an attempt which whistles narrowly over the bar.

By the way, Beth Mead has gone straight to the top of the WSL scoring charts. She now has three in one-and-a-bit games.

    Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham

Tottenham are playing like rabbits in headlights. They are not on the same wavelength.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are playing up to this huge crowd. They're turning on the style.

    Sublime.

It should have been 1-0 just a few moments ago when the ball landed on a plate for Euros Golden Boot winner Beth Mead. But she makes no mistake the second time.

A fantastic finish on the big stage, who knew she could do that?

    Beth Mead

    Oh, sweet mercy!

Beth Mead opens her body up and curls a delightful finish beyond Rebecca Spencer and into the net.

That was a delicious finish. Joyous scenes at the Emirates.

    Arsenal 0-0 Tottenham

As expected, Arsenal are on the front foot in the opening exchanges and Rebecca Spencer has had a couple of early touches in the Spurs goal.

First chance falls to the hosts but Beth Mead's attempt is deflected wide for a corner.

  10. 'Spence is a great signing'published at 13:31 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal 0-0 Tottenham

    Jenna Schillaci
Former Spurs captain on BBC One

Tottenham have made no secret that they really want to kick on and break into the top four. Signing a player like Drew Spence who has over ten years experience in the Women's Super League and been part of a winning changing room everyday with Chelsea. She knows how to win. On the pitch, she's exactly what Tottenham need right now.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

It's another landmark day in the WSL.

Away we go in front of 50,000-plus.

London Calling by the Clash was blasting out over the sound system, earlier. A fitting song for a North London derby but I don't imagine many of the crowd here have ever heard it.

Next up is Cher - Believe, another oldie but goodie.

The players are out and a huge banner makes it's way across the opposite stand. It's pretty noisy in here, I have to say.

    Let's do this.

    Jenna Schillaci
Former Spurs captain on BBC One

I was part of the squad on that day [Tottenham v Arsenal on November 2019 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium] and to get those numbers in for a London derby is what we've always wanted. Fast forward, we've got over 50,000 fans inside this stadium. It's incredible. The atmosphere is going to be electric.

  14. Postpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

Alex Scott, who is fronting BBC One's coverage, says the noise inside the Emirates reminds her of the summer.

Terrific noise as the teams emerge from the tunnel. The ground is packed.

  15. 'Dark horses'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal v Tottenham (13:30 BST)

    BBC Sport

Tottenham are the dark horses this season. They exceeded expectations last year and have been hugely ambitious in the transfer window.

Poland forward Nikola Karczewska, Wales midfielder Angharad James, former Aston Villa midfielder Ramona Petzelberger AND ex-Manchester United defender Amy Turner are all strong additions and should improve the starting XI as well as the squad.

They lacked goals last season and Jamaica's Drew Spence, who has arrived from Chelsea, will help in that department.

But Tottenham could still struggle against the top teams. That could be what holds them back, but I expect them to narrow the gap to the top four even more.

  16. 'We are underdogs'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal v Tottenham (13:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham boss Rehanne Skinner: "We are trying to bridge the gap with where we have been. We want to make life as difficult for Arsenal as we possibly can.

"We will be seen as the underdogs and that’s absolutely fine by us. We have no pressure and nothing to lose so we need to make sure we do our jobs really well.

"We want to take points off those top teams more than we did last season. That would be a significant step forward for us."

  17. 'We have experience of playing in front of big crowds'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal v Tottenham (13:30 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall on whether his players will handle the big crowd and occasion at Emirates Stadium: "They have played in front of big crowds before. We’ve been to the FA Cup final which was a similar attendance.

"They’ve been playing with high attendance figures with the national teams, and many of them in the squad were playing in the north London derby two seasons ago that has the current WSL record.

"For us, it’s not something that we do every weekend, but it’s not new for us. We have experienced that and we are looking forward to it."

  18. 'Record crowd will pose communication challenges'published at 13:21 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    Arsenal v Tottenham (13:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Rehanne Skinner on playing in front of 50,000-plus fans: "We’re looking forward to playing in front of a record number of fans. It was something everyone hoped to achieve off the back of the Euros. Quite honestly the previous record has stood for too long. It’s an exciting prospect.

"It will pose some challenges in terms of communication but it’s the route we all want to go down and we need to get used to it and do it more frequently."

  19. Mead 'one of the best in the world'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

Reporter: "Is Beth Mead one of the best players in the world right now?"

Jonas Eidevall: "She is when she takes her opportunities and that’s what I speak to Beth about. The thing as a forward is that you will always fail more than you are successful, but for Beth, it’s about having that self-confidence and doing those actions."

  20. Big cheer for Euros starspublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

The players are out warming up and it was England's Euro 2022 winners who got the biggest cheer when their names were read out by the stadium announcer.

Leah Williamson and Beth Mead both start for the Gunners today with Lotte Wubben-Moy on the bench.

There's definitely a bit of a party atmosphere building inside as the ground starts to fill up and music blasts over the sound system. So many young families and groups of friends are in attendance and it feels like a really relaxed atmosphere.

They'll be hoping to see some big goals on a big occasion for women's football.
