You've got one defensive player in that team - and he's not been great either - but Goldson is the only player there who can win a defensive header. The opener is a terrible goal to lose. A free header. And it keeps happening.

They have been lamentable. It's been men against mannequins. There's obviously a clear gulf in ability between the teams, but there's a clear gulf in physicality as well. Ajax are just brushing Rangers off the ball, passing through them.

There's no spirit. Two of the three goals have definsively been horrendous. Where do you start? Absolutely no positives at all. A poor 45 minutes which has been a continuation from the weekend

  12. 'Rangers have not got going'published at 18:40

A long wait to return to Champions League football has turned into a long night for Rangers. And it's only half-time.

Worth saying from the outset, Ajax have been superb. Their interchanges, movement and ability to find time in the smallest of gaps is something to behold. Their tenacity in pressing, even while three goals up, says a lot about their mindset, too.

However, Rangers simply have not got going, giving an Ajax team, that needs no invitation, encouragement to advance at will and carve their opponents open with ease. While the second goal was unfortunate via a heavy deflection, the defending for goal one and three was practically non existent.

There have been flickers going forward, mostly with Malik Tillman's neat footwork, but Remko Pasveer in the Ajax goal has done nothing.

Rangers have produced minor miracles in Europe this calendar year. Giovanni van Bronckhorst will need a pretty big one here.
