    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

Wales are wobbling a little here.

Slovenia have started well and are asking questions of Wales.

It is no wonder Gemma Grainger looks a little concerned on the touchline.

  4. Let-off for Walespublished at 12 mins

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

A poor crossfield pass from Rachel Rowe is picked off by Mateja Zver.

She drives into the box but her shot is straight at Laura O'Sullivan.

That is a let-off for the hosts.

    Gwennan Harries
Former Wales striker on BBC One Wales

    Slovenia are very organised, disciplined.

They are popping the ball about - they look like the home team at the moment.

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

Slovenia threaten for the first time.

A free-kick is half-cleared by Angharad James. The ball is fired back into the Welsh box by Kristina Erman but it is just too strong.

Slovenia are a very physical team, but Wales can match that.

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

A hefty challenge from Gemma Evans but she escapes a booking.

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

There has been some debate over how Wales would line up tonight, but it looks like four at the back rather than five.

That means skipper Sophie Ingle is in midfield, rather than dropping into defence.

  10. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

Wales enjoying plenty of possession early on.

Kayleigh Green is a willing runner and her efforts see Rachel Rowe cross, but Slovenia clear.

This game means absolutely everything to every single one of those players in that squad and Slovenia watching them, they are up for it.

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

I think Wales will look to play into the channels, try to turn the Slovenian defence and win the ball back high up the pitch.

  13. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Wales 0-0 Slovenia

Carrie Jones wins a tackle deep in Slovenian territory.

The Welsh move comes to nothing, but that's a positive start.

It is the biggest game of their lives, how can they not perform in front of a crowd like this.

Slovenia are such a dangerous team, so tenacious, so physical.

Wales are going to be in for a game tonight. It's not going to be easy.

A point will do for Wales tonight, but their plan is to go for victory.

The final whistle had barely sounded in Greece on Friday night by the time Gemma Grainger was insisting it would be business as usual this evening.

The Wales boss made the plan clear once more in her pre-match press conference, declaring: "We need a point but we're going to prepare to win the game and we wouldn't have any other approach."

Wales' game management skills were important in Greece, where their performance was efficient rather than spectacular.

More of the same tonight would do very nicely for Grainger, who says that as a coach, she prefers 1-0 victories to thumping wins.

We sort of understand what she means.

  19. Slovenia look to overhaul Walespublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 6 September 2022

    Wales v Slovenia (19:45 BST)

Like Wales, Slovenia have never played at a major tournament, but a win tonight would see them secure a play-off place ahead of their hosts.

And like Wales, Slovenia have enjoyed a positive qualification campaign, with their only defeats in Group I coming against the all-conquering French.

They drew the home fixture with Wales 1-1 last October, when Kayleigh Green scored the visitors' equaliser before being sent off.

The only thing that separates Wales and the Slovenians ahead of tonight's game is Slovenia's shock 0-0 home draw with Greece last November, which means they start tonight two points worse off than their opponents.

It will be hard for Wales to take if they fail to press home that advantage.
