Brighton midfielder Adam Lallana has backed his former boss Graham Potter's "unbelievable environment" to thrive at Chelsea - but only if he is given time.

Potter has won one and drawn one in his opening two games in charge.

"I fully expect him to a great job there," Lallana told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "I have no doubt, with that group of players and the talent there, he will get them firing.

"It's a cut-throat business at times and Chelsea Football Club are renowned for winning silverware. But it's a challenge he's up for, and one he's ready for.

"He will give everyone a chance to impress, to play well and be part of his culture. It's an unbelievable environment to work under.

"There will be pressure for instant success, but good things in life do take time. I hope he's given it."

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking on Tuesday: "I spent last night and this morning watching Copenhagen.

"They are really good, well organised and you have to be careful.

"You have to come back to reality [after the derby win] and put our effort in to win an important game.

"If we are able to make nine points from three games we'd be so close to the next stage."

Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has told his AC Milan team-mates how proud he is to return to Stamford Bridge with the Italian team.

Giroud, 36, helped Chelsea win the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during a four-season spell with the club before moving to Italy in 2021.

"I hope to have a good welcome, because I spent a nice three and a half years here with trophies," said Giroud. "I left the club in good terms, so let's see. Hopefully.

"I know the boys, I played there with so many of them, but they changed the manager so I don't really know how they are going to play.

"The pitch here is also wonderful, so I think it's going to be a fantastic game.

"When we were walking around the pitch I told my team-mates I'm very proud to come here with the great Milan to play in the Champions League, to play in our colours and to defend our badge."

These teams last faced each other in the 2008-09 Uefa Cup, with City winning 4-3 on aggregate.

This is Manchester City’s first Champions League match against Danish opponents. They have beaten teams from 14 of the 15 nations they’ve faced previously, failing only against Scottish sides (P2, D2).

Manchester City are unbeaten across their past 21 home matches in the Champions League (W19 D2), a run that started with a 6-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in November 2018.

City have played 34 group matches at home in the Champions League to date and have scored in every one.

  9. 'Foden still has to improve'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Man City v Copenhagen (20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has high standards and though he was full of praise for Phil Foden after his hat-trick against Manchester United, he still wants more from him.

"Exceptional player, grew up a lot. He's reliable in his physical condition, so intense and clever in everything.

"He can play every three days. The impact when I arrived was 'wow'. The second [season], he started to play important games.

"He doesn't feel pressure - like Bernardo [Silva]. On the biggest stage he behaves better. He can do many things. Every year, the more games you play, you're a better player.

With the ball, especially without, he has to improve. It's normal. With his age and desire to learn he will do it - no doubt."

  10. Tomori on his point to provepublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Chelsea v AC Milan (20:00 BST)

    TomoriImage source, .

Fikayo Tomori returns to the club where he spent two-thirds of his life tonight.

The 24-year-old England defender left Chelsea - where he had been since he was seven - for AC Milan for £24m last year.

He helped the Italian side to their first Serie A title in over a decade last season.

"Every footballer, when you get on the pitch, there's a point to prove," Tomori said.

"Obviously coming from Chelsea and being English, there's probably that added motivation.

"It's just another chance for me to see some familiar faces as well as to, I guess, show how I've developed. I know people have watched the Milan games but going back to Stamford Bridge where it all kind of started, it's another chance to show myself again."

  11. Who is Potter's number one?published at 19:33 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Chelsea v AC Milan (20:00 BST)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Potter is looking at every player and he's showing that from his team selections over the last three games.

We turned up here tonight and it's probably not the team you would have picked but he's going to have a look at everyone.

    And that probably includes goalkeepers.

Mendy was clearly number one in the last 18 months and for me, every time I've watched Chelsea and this is up until their recent form, I just found him outstanding.

It would surprise me if he didn't bring him back in or give him the opportunity to have that shirt. But if Kepa can do well enough, then maybe he could change his mind?

Jack Grealish is one of the cover stars of tonight's programme - and will be looking to light up the Etihad pitch the same way he did against Manchester United on Sunday.

The only thing missing from his derby display was a goal or an assist - he has actually managed a combined total of one all season, when he found the net against Wolves.

Will tonight be the night when his stats shine brightly too?

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has praised the way forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dealt with a violent robbery in his home in the summer.

The Gabon forward suffered a broken jaw during the incident which happened at his home near Barcelona before joining Chelsea.

"He wouldn't be human if it didn't affect him," Potter said.

"We're here to support but I think the best thing for him is to play football, to put the incident behind him as quickly as possible and feel comfortable and happy. I think he feels that here. He has acted really professionally, I have been really impressed with him.

"[The burglary] was fairly horrific to be honest. You are talking about something that isn't particularly nice where the family are concerned.

"But I can only act on how he behaves and he has been perfect."

Aubameyang left Barcelona to link up with his old manager Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea - with the German then sacked and replaced by Potter after just one game together.

Man City v Copenhagen (20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Erling Haaland has scored three goals in his first two Champions League games for City but Pep Guardiola says he is still even better than his goalscoring record.

The Norway striker has scored 17 goals in his first 11 games for City going into their Champions League home game with Copenhagen.

"The numbers speak for themselves," said Guardiola.

"In the locker room, and on the pitch we see things that are not in the stats that make us happy to have him here."

Salzburg could be going top of Chelsea's group.

Noah Okafor has given them the lead against Dinamo Zagreb with a 71st-minute penalty.

That would take them onto five points, above leaders AC Milan.

Since the beginning of last season, Salzburg have been awarded six Champions League penalties, two more than any other team.

  17. How do you stop Haaland?published at 19:23 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Copenhagen coach Jacob Neestrup said Haaland is "obviously one of the best strikers in the world".

Neestrup, who is 34 and was only appointed last month, said: "We will do what we can to limit his possibilities.

"But there are also 10 other players we will need to be aware of. They are one of the best teams out there.

"People talk about their big names but I am more impressed by them collectively."

Aguero was a thorn in Ryan's side when he came here with Brighton

Slightly surprising that Copenhagen keeper Mat Ryan has been dropped to the bench tonight after keeping a clean sheet on Sunday, but he has probably been telling his replacement Kamil Grabara what to expect between the sticks here.

Grabara is likely to be busy a little later - Manchester City have scored 22 times in their five home games so far this season, an average of 4.4 goals a game. They manage a shot, on average, every five minutes and score every 20 minutes.

This isn't news to former Brighton keeper Ryan, though. He shipped nine goals in three visits here with the Seagulls in 2018 and 2019.

Back then he only had Sergio Aguero to worry about - who hit three of those goals. Now he has to tell Grabara how to stop the Erling Haaland hat-trick machine... his message is probably along the lines of "good luck with that, mate".

Copenhagen XI: Grabara, Diks, Vavro, Khocholava, Claesson, Johannesson, Lerager, Daramy, Karamoko, Kristiansen, Stamenic

Subs: Johnsson, Ryan, Sorensen, Babacar, Cornelius, Mukairu, Jelert, Ankersen, Lund, Haraldsson, Roony

  20. First meeting this millenniumpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Chelsea v AC Milan (20:00 BST)

    Chelsea

This is the first time Chelsea and AC Milan have met in the Champions League since the 1999-2000 first group stage, when both games ended in draws.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter will be just the third English manager to face Milan in the competition, after Bobby Robson with Porto in 1993-94 and Harry Redknapp with Tottenham in 2010-11.

Raheem Sterling scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea in their game against Salzburg. He could become only the second Blues player to score in his first two home matches in the competition, along with Oscar in 2012-13.

Chelsea’s Reece James has been involved in 13 sequences of play that ended in a shot in the first two Champions League matchdays this season. Manchester City's Joao Cancelo (16) is the only full-back to be involved in more.
