    Man Utd 0-0 Omonia Nicosia

Manchester United dominate the ball early on and Fred tries his luck from 30 yards but it is deflected away for a corner.

The hosts play it short, with Omonia snoozing. Marcus Rashford has so much time and space to shoot at goal but it is a brilliant tip-over by Omonia keeper Francis Uzoho - a United fan.

Nearly a dream start for Erik ten Hag's men.

Man Utd v Omonia Nicosia (20:00 BST)

Omonia Nicosia are winless in 17 away games in major European competitions (drew three, lost 14) and have won just two of 36 in total on their travels at this level, beating Rabat Ajax in 1985 and Shamrock Rovers in 1987.

No Cypriot side has ever won away to an English side in Europe (drew two, lost six), with these games producing a total of 27 goals for the English teams at an average of 3.4 per game. This will be Omonia Nicosia’s third such game, losing the previous two against Arsenal (1994-95) and Manchester City (2008-09).

Erik ten Hag has been praising his players' mentality in his match programme column.

He says recent reactions to setbacks has been pleasing.

The United boss points to the defeat to Manchester City as an "important lesson".

"In the two games since, we have shown good mental strength and attitude," he added.

"We have not panicked, we have stuck with the gameplan and you can see the results.

"If we can end this game with nine points then we will have taken a big step towards the knockout stages of the Europa League."

Omonia will be missing goalkeeper Fabiano tonight due to a shoulder injury.

He was impressive in the return game in Cyprus last week, making several saves including a strong one to deny Antony from long range.

His replacement could be very busy tonight!

United had 28 shots in total last week - though only eight on target - and controlled 73% of the possession.

You would expect United to be more on the front foot at Old Trafford too. It's their first game at home in about five weeks.

  7. Saka's 'showing the way for the next generation'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 13 October 2022

    FT: Bodo/Glimt 0-1 Arsenal

Martin Keown speaking to BT Sport at full-time: "I think all in all Mikel Arteta will be happy, he might have wanted a better result but they ground out the result and just did enough.

"They live to fight another day, keeping the winning habit going. Yes there's work to do, but they keep proving they can challenge Manchester City to the title this season."

On Bukayo Saka's performance: "He's top draw and he's now showing the way for the next generation.

"The club is together now, they know their talent that's emerging and it's like a soccer factory. The youth prospects they have are dangerous."

West Ham v Anderlecht (20:00 BST)

West Ham have played plenty of European football in recent seasons thanks to their Europa League semi-final run last season, and boss David Moyes believes that can only be a good thing for the club long term, even if it means a packed fixture schedule.

"Somebody said to me the other day we might have played as many [recent] European games as any club," added Moyes.

"Obviously we'd like to be in the Champions League but the point is, for West Ham who didn't have European football for such a long time, sometimes, you mustn't forget what we've got and you have to embrace and enjoy it.

"I'm not moaning about it, but [playing] Thursday, Sunday is not easy. "For us at West Ham I think it's a great thing, you should never take it for granted because it might not always be there."

  9. Why it's important to win the grouppublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 13 October 2022

Man Utd v Omonia Nicosia (20:00 BST)

When the draw was made for the Europa League, this looked like a decent group for Manchester United.

The 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad was disappointing but wins over the bottom two - Sheriff Tiraspol and Omonia Nicosia - means United are just three points behind the group leaders.

United and Real Sociedad face each other on 3 November which is likely to be a crucial game. Until then, United need to keep winning.

As it stands, Ajax, Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus would all be dropping into the Europa League so winning the group would help to avoid them in the early rounds of the knockout stages.

Erik ten Hag said this week it was "important" to win the group.

"That will be our aim and it's clear we want to avoid that [finishing second]," he added.

Great defending as Takehiro Tomiyasu calmly shrugs Amahl Pellegrino off the ball on the edge of the Arsenal area. That's just the sort of calmness Arsenal need as they look to see this out against spirited opposition.

    Bodo/Glimt 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal make another change, this time in midfield as Albert Sambi Lokonga is replaced by Thomas Partey.

Lars-Jorgen Salvesen almost gets his head to a decent ball into the box as Bodo/Glimt push for an equaliser.

The home fans then scream for a penalty as they feel Albert Sambi Lokonga handles inside the box, but the referee isn't interested and there doesn't appear to be a VAR check.

  18. Special nights - Moyespublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 13 October 2022

    West Ham v Anderlecht (20:00BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

West Ham boss David Moyes has been reflecting on a second consecutive European campaign in his programme notes this evening.

"It is only when you're not involved in Europe that you realise how special it is," he said. "We all have to relish these games."

Victory over Anderlecht tonight will put West Ham through to the knockout phase. If they win and Silkeborg don't in the group's other game tonight, the Hammers will be straight into last 16.

Paul: If Bodo could finish at the very least they’d be drawing this. We haven’t played well but so far at least are just about doing enough to win.

If they lose this game it’s unfair on Bodo. I love their fans btw. Proper fans who sing and support team no matter.

There's definitely no rush from Arsenal to try and get a second. They are happy enough to pass the ball around without taking risks.
