Safe to say former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, working tonight as an analyst for BT Sport, is not buying Ten Hag's response about Antony.

"More or less?" he sniffs.

The issue prompts a debate between Scholes and his former United team-mate Owen Hargreaves about the need for Antony's double spin.

Which, by the way, ended in him passing straight out for a goal-kick.

More from Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who was asked by BT Sport if Antony's half-time substitution was a reaction to his showboating: "No. It was more or less planned if we were up. I wanted to see Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo close together and the dynamic on the right side.

"Garnacho played well, he was good in his action, so that was good to see.

"Seeing Ronaldo get his goal was great. He created, the team created for him and we know he has the capability to finish. He needed a goal and now I'm confident there will be more goals."

West Ham United

West Ham United manager David Moyes speaking to BT Sport: "I thought we did enough to get two or three goals. I wouldn't put it simply down to poor finishing, but decisions in the final third more generally. We still had chances, and two or three players who probably should have got themselves a goal."

On Nayef Aguerd's first start after injury: "It was probably the perfect game for him to come back. There wasn't a lot of contact. He started flagging around 60 minutes and we got him off. We think he'll be a fantastic player."

On whether Aguerd will feature against Manchester United at the weekend: "It's too soon for him. We know what he's got but we want to put him out in the right condition."

On the tight turnaround before Sunday's Premier League game: "It's really difficult. We played Monday so we had two days and there was a real risk if we lost to Silkeborg we would have to go to Anderlecht without a full squad.

"The Premier League is thick and fast for everyone. I'm thrilled to be in European competition and we have to take the medicine that comes with it."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to BT Sport, about his side's performance: "It was OK. Of course you hope you score in the first half hour so it took a bit long but we deserved that goal.

"The second half we scored two more good goals from open play and I'm pleased with the clean sheet because we gave nothing away. It was a focused win.

"Our occupation of space in the box could still be done better, the second and third goals we did that well. We occupied positions and scored."

While Manchester United and West Ham clinched their spots in the top two of their respective groups tonight, there was Heart-break north of the border.

Hearts completed the double over Rigas FS with a gutsy win at Tynecastle, but it was not enough to prevent a group-stage exit in the Europa Conference League.

Both sides' fate was sealed before kick-off as Fiorentina beat Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 at home.

However, Hearts secured third place and their second win thanks to a roaring start crowned by goals from Lawrence Shankland and Andy Halliday.

The hosts doggedly held firm after Kevin Friesenbichler's reply.

West Ham United

On what that turnaround looks like for the players: "It's important to recover tonight, get as much sleep as possible, Friday is recovery and then Saturday we travel [to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday].

"It's good to have rhythm and play every three games."

Manchester United are now seven matches unbeaten. Corner being turned?

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, speaking to BT Sport: "They set up to defend well and play on counter. It took us a while and got the first goal from a set piece so we're happy with that. Once we went 1-0 ahead, the space opened up and we could have got a few more.

"Not getting the first goal quickly leads to a mix between frustration and calmness, you have to be calm to create chances and be clinical in taking them.

"Scoring before half-time was a big help, it allowed us to look for more goals and space and we found them. It was about getting the job done."

On next week's trip to Real Sociedad: "We have to go there and score by two goals. We have to score goals but defend well. It is going to be a tough game but looking forward to the challenge.

"It's taken a lot of hard work to adapt and change, but we're getting there."

Oh, and Marcus Rashford looked sharp after he came on as a half-time substitute.

The England striker scored United's second goal and could have had one or two more.

All in all, that was a fine night's work for Manchester United.

A straightforward win, Alejandro Garnacho impressing on his full debut, even a goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.

And the social media team, if not Erik ten Hag, will be buzzing with Antony's 720 degree pirouette.

It all comes down to the final game for Manchester United.

So, Manchester United did want they had to do in a one-sided contest.

Erik ten Hag's side have secured their place in the top two of Group E, meaning they are assured of at least a spot in the play-off round against one of the teams dropping down from the Champions League.

More importantly, they can still avoid the trouble of all that.

Three points tonight means they will go to Real Sociedad next week knowing a two-goal win will see them finish above their hosts as group winners.

The group winners go straight into the last 16.

Nice scenes in the away end as the players walk over and high-five the travelling Silkeborg fans. Their bid to reach the knockout round for the first time will go down to their final match against Anderlecht.
