One battle to closely keep your eye on tonight is on Manchester United's right flank.

In a world of generally sterile player quotes, it has been refreshing to hear Sheriff Tiraspol left-back Patrick Kpozo talk up his chances of dealing with United's £86m right-winger Antony.

Sheriff may have lost 2-0 to the Red Devils in Moldova, but Kpozo was widely praised for keeping United's marquee summer signing at bay.

"People thought Antony was going to 'kill' me in the first game," the 25-year-old told BBC Sport Africa.

"He is a very good player but when he came up against me, he couldn't do anything. Still, they are saying again that he will 'kill' me again in the match at Old Trafford.

"I'm sure he will be trying to do everything possible to prove himself, but I believe in myself. I am strong, fast and when I stay close to him, he has nowhere to go. I've got him."

  2. Guess who's back?published at 17:16 British Summer Time 27 October 2022

Manchester United v Sheriff Tiraspol (20:00 BST)

Cristiano Ronaldo returns for Thursday's game having been left out of Saturday's squad for refusing to come on as a substitute and walking down the tunnel in the 89th minute during United's 2-0 win against Spurs.

The Portugal forward, 37, later apologised for the incident, saying "the heat of the moment" got to him.

Ten Hag said: "I think we said everything and answered all the questions. He was out for one game and now he is back."

The importance of Manchester United's late winner against Omonia Nicosia was clear from their celebrations.

Scott McTominay's goal put United on the brink of clinching their place in the top two - and they could yet topple Real Sociedad as Group E winners.

United will secure a place in the top two tonight:

    - if they win, draw or avoid defeat by more than one goal

United will not finish as group winners and will be confirmed in the Europa League knockout round play-offs as runners-up:

    - if they lose by one goal, or if they draw and Real Sociedad win

  7. Why is finishing top so important?published at 17:02 British Summer Time 27 October 2022

    PSV v Arsenal (17:45 BST)

    Barcelona. Ajax. Atletico Madrid. Juventus.

Those are some of the clubs that could be dropping into the Europa League in the new year.

While finishing in the top two places in your group guarantees progress, all second placed sides will go into a play-off round to reach the Europa league's last 16 stage.

There, they could meet one of the sides knocked out of the Champions League.

So, as far as Arsenal and Manchester United are concerned, they would ideally like to avoid that scenario...

  8. 'We need to go for the win'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 27 October 2022

    PSV v Arsenal (17:45 BST)

Arsenal only require one point tonight, but manager Mikel Arteta has urged his side to go for the win at PSV Eindhoven as they aim to wrap up Group A.

"Last week we made the first step which was to qualify for the next round. We need to win [on Thursday] because we want to finish first," Arteta said.

"This competition is getting harder and harder. It looks like the next round is going to be extremely competitive.

"That's why finishing first in the group and avoiding another two games is such an important thing for us."

West Ham v Silkeborg (20:00 BST)

    Nayef AguerdImage source, Getty Images

West Ham manager David Moyes hopes to have £30m summer signing Nayef Aguerd in his squad for tonight's game against Silkeborg.

Morocco defender Aguerd, who joined from Rennes in June, has not featured since injuring his ankle in pre-season. Although Moyes said the 26-year-old is not yet ready to play in the Premier League, he could feature in Europe.

"I see Nayef hopefully giving us something we've not had," said Moyes.

"He's not in contention for Sunday [against Manchester United] but we're hoping to have him in the squad tomorrow, one way or another.

"I want to give him time. He's a good reader of the game, he's quick and he's good in the air, but because he's not played any Premier League games it's difficult for us to give an overall judgement."

Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also back in training.
