First chance to attack for Hull as Callum Elder sails a cross into the Luton box, hanging it to the back post.

However, Amari'i Bell heads it out and then clears up to Elijah Adebayo.

No signs of ring rust from the Jamaica international, who's fresh from tussling with Lionel Messi in a friendly against Argentina.

  2. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Hull 0-0 Luton

Hull actually have the Championship's top scorer in Colombia striker Oscar Estupinan with seven, but he's not scored in the past four.

Carlton Morris for Luton has six in as many games.

Two strikers who know where the net is.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Here we go then.

Match official James Linington has refereed one game apiece this season, with Hull beating Norwich and Luton beating Cardiff.

Someone's lucky charm might just lose their touch tonight.

Linington has also shown 26 yellows and a red in SEVEN games. He dishes out cards like it's Valentine's Day.

    Hull v Luton (20:00 BST)

    The teams are out.

Hull City fans have turned up in good numbers to be fair. But it's Andy Dawson's name they're roaring out to the tune of Pigbag, rather than the departed Shota Arveladze.

He's got plenty of currency with the fans from his playing days.

Although Luton boss Nathan Jones' pre-match interview was given before the shock departure of Shota Arveladze as Hull City boss, the Welshman's comments would likely have been the same.

His sole concern is his side adding to their two straight wins in East Yorkshire in recent seasons, and the focus was always on what the Hatters could do rather than the Tigers threat.

"We won't underestimate them in any way, and we want to go there and just concentrate on us," Jones told BBC 3CR.

"We know what we have to do to nullify Hull but we want to impose ourselves."

    Mansfield 0-0 Hartlepool

There's also a game in the fourth tier tonight, as Hartlepool United make the trip down to glorious Nottinghamshire to face hosts Mansfield Town.

However, the weather's certainly not glorious, as BBC Tees Sport's Rob Law has captured.

We'll keep you abreast of the scoreline from the home of the Stags during the coverage tonight.

  8. "The timing is most surprising"published at 19:49 British Summer Time 30 September 2022

    Hull v Luton (20:00 BST)

    Ollie Turner
    BBC Radio Humberside sports reporter

The timing of Shota Arveladze's departure - just hours before the match at home to Luton Town - is perhaps more surprising than the announcement itself.

Reports had suggested that he'd been given more time following a meeting with owner Acun Ilicali after their 3-0 defeat at Swansea City in his final game in charge.

However, the Hull City manager denied that happened earlier this week and also avoided questions as to whether he had the next two matches, or even this evening's game, to save his job.

But maybe the writing was already on the wall following the calamitous nature of the goals conceded in south Wales and a result that made it no goals in three, four straight defeats and having conceded at least twice in their last six games.

Championship football's harsh realities will have been keenly felt in the Arveladze household tonight, as former Rangers and Ajax striker Shota was dismissed as head coach of Hull City just hours before tonight's game.

The 49-year-old became friends with Tigers owner Acun Ilicali during his time in Turkey, and was appointed boss at the MKM Stadium in January.

However, a disappointing start to the season with City down in 20th place, and Ilicali stated his and the Georgian's views "were not aligned".

Former defender Andy Dawson has taken interim charge of the side, while Dutch assistant Peter van der Veen has left.

The Championship is back after the international break.

Hull have had a chance to reset in the last fortnight, although their preparations have been slightly thrown into chaos by today's departure of boss Shota Arveladze.

By contrast, last season's play-off semi-finalists Luton might have rued the break, having turned around a sluggish start to take 11 points from the last 18 available.

We're about 15 minutes away from kick-off. Let's crack on.
