I half understand some of the complaints about Southgate picking players and then not playing them. But at the same time picking a 28 player squad isn't just about picking the players to play/sit on the bench. It's about the whole squad/team atmosphere. These are players that need to come together and potentially live and interact for almost 2 months 24/7. Professionalism can only last so far in those situations, the dynamics up of the team could make or break the tournament

Surely you have to fit TAA somehow. England have been awful up top in the last couple of months, Kane is supposedly to be one of the best strikers in the world, he could benefit hugely from Trent's delivery.

You certainly can lose a World Cup with Trent Alexander-Arnold - but I guarantee you that you will not win one without him.

    Rhodri

TAA isn't involved as he's not better than Walker or James defensively at RB, simples.

    Anon

The decision not to use TAA in tonight's match is, in a word, divisive.

Robert: No Tomori again, what a joke!

Atiq: Madness. The way Southgate treats Trent and Timori. What a wasted trip.

Born in Canada, Fikayo Tomori made his England debut in 2019 and has three caps.

The 24-year-old joined AC Milan from Chelsea for £24m in January after a successful loan spell during the 2020-21 campaign.

He has not been included in England's matchday squad to face Germany tonight.

Stuart: Again repeating what I said in June. Klopp plays TAA because he wants to win, Southgate doesn't because he doesn't want to lose.

Simon H: How does Tomori not get a game in this England side? Baffling...

Missing out on the World Cup will be a huge blow for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool right-back was ruled out of Euro 2020 with a thigh injury.

He was in the England squad at the 2018 World Cup, starting against Belgium in the groups, although Kieran Trippier was the preferred right-back throughout the tournament.

Diane: What's the point picking players for England if you're not going to use them? Trent hasn't been great for Liverpool this season & if he doesn't go to the World Cup it's not a huge loss, but to not use him at all is a waste.

This time four months ago World Cup-winning Brazil captain Cafu called Trent Alexander-Arnold the best right-back in the world.

"He is young, strong and has developed hugely considering his age. He also has a lot of experience and I see a lot of similarities between him and myself," he said.

The Liverpool academy product has been a mainstay during Jurgen Klopp's reign, playing more than 200 games since breaking into the first team in the 2016-17 season.

Jardz: Dropped Tomori but still play Maguire???

Ryan: 0 minutes again for AC Milan’s title winning centre back. it’s laughable

Mark: Doubling down on Maguire. Southgate determined to do it on his terms - whatever the cost.

Is that the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold's World Cup hopes?

And what about Fikayo Tomori? The AC Milan defender won't be playing a single minute across the international break.

There's no place for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold they add. Agree?

Tonight's game is England's last before the World Cup. One final chance to tweak the squad.

Can we please stop with the Southgate bashing. We've been poor but in glorified friendlies. A match tonight with nothing to play for is even more so. Maybe the reason we haven't won anything for over 50 years is that we're so fickle!
