  1. Wenger's World Cup player stats planpublished at 09:04 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Individual performance statistics from this year’s World Cup will be delivered to players from competing countries within minutes of the final whistle of each individual game.

The bespoke player app has been launched by world governing body FIFA and is the brainchild of Global Football Development chief, Arsene Wenger.

FIFA regard the app as incorporating the most comprehensive system on the market and has been developed with input from some of the world’s leading players.

Experts will monitor and track every player movement during all 64 games in Qatar.

The stats will then be delivered to the app at the final whistle.

Everton ruined Merseyside rivals Liverpool's day at Anfield and picked up their first win of the Women's Super League season.

The derby was played out in front of 27,574, a record crowd for a WSL game at Anfield.

Defender Megan Finnigan gave Everton an early lead when she sent a header past goalkeeper Rachael Laws.

The Blues were dominant and made it 2-0 when Jess Park coolly shifted the ball onto her left foot and slid it into the corner, before substitute Hanna Bennison scored a third late on,

  4. McGuinness leaves Leicester to look after dad Wilfpublished at 08:53 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Leicester’s head of player development Paul McGuiness has left the club for personal reasons.

It is understood McGuinness quit earlier in the summer in order to help care for his dad, former Manchester United manager Wilf, who has dementia.

Whilst McGuiness is keen to continue coaching, or do consultancy work, he wants to be near his parents, who are based in the north-west.

Wilf, 84, was diagnosed with dementia 10 years ago.

Capped twice by England before injury ended his career at the age of 22, McGuinness was a highly-rated coach and was appointed as successor to Sir Matt Busby in 1969.

However, despite leading United to three domestic cup semi-finals, he was sacked in December 1970.

  5. 'We were lucky'published at 08:50 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

Chelsea boss Hayes said her side were "lucky" in the first half after they struggled against City's pressing.

"We overplayed and kept playing ourselves into trouble. We were playing out from the back in every situation and gave City the best chances," she said.

"We were a bit tentative. Today was like the season opener - it looked like two teams that haven't got any momentum and sometimes that takes time. We were dominating by the second half, comfortable after a poor first half."

"There are still transitions happening with us too but maybe the collective leadership in my group is further ahead than City."

  6. Chelsea beat City for first win of seasonpublished at 08:45 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

Let's park the Nations League chat for now and remind ourselves of Sunday's WSL action.

Champions Chelsea bounced back from their opening-day defeat with a 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City, who remain winless this season.

Fran Kirby poked home Guro Reiten's low cross after a pacey Chelsea counter-attack to open the scoring.

And Maren Mjelde's powerful spot-kick after a handball delivered the final blow.

Chelsea have not lost to City in 11 WSL matches, winning five and drawing six.

SmiffyMFC: Lose against Germany tonight and Southgate has to go, I don't care if the World Cup is only around the corner!

Southgate became the first England manager to reach a European Championship final and to reach any major tournament final since 1966 last year. Surely that counts for something, right?

Reigning champions France narrowly avoided Nations League relegation despite a 2-0 defeat by Denmark.

France finished one point above relegated Austria, who lost 3-1 to Croatia on Sunday.

World champions France, who beat Spain 2-1 in last year's Nations League final, ended a four-game winless run and moved off the bottom of the group by beating Austria on Thursday.

Croatia win ensured they reached the Nations League semi-finals stage for the first time.

  10. 'We will be difficult to go up against'published at 08:23 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

Louis van GaalImage source, Getty Images

Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal now heads to a second World Cup, having taken the Dutch to third place in Brazil eight years ago.

"I think we are going to be a difficult opponent to go up against," he said.

"We showed that if we are out-played we can still be difficult to break down by playing more compact."

The Netherlands are in Group A at the World Cup finals, starting against Senegal on November 21 before playing Ecuador and Qatar.

And speaking of LVG, check out his reaction to Tyrell Malacia's goal in training the other day...

Elsewhere last night, the Netherlands qualified for the Nations League finals as Virgil van Dijk's header secured victory over Belgium at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Louis van Gaal's side needed to avoid defeat by three goals against second-placed Belgium.

But they made certain of their progress when Liverpool defender Van Dijk met Cody Gakpo's corner after 73 minutes in a 1-0 win.

  12. Juve's eye-watering £226.8m losspublished at 08:13 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It was somewhat lost under the radar as they released these accounts just as Italy were playing England in the Nations League on Friday but Juventus have confirmed a loss of €254.3m (£226.79m) for the year to 30 June 2022.

The eye-watering sum is a 21.2% increase on last year, is Juventus’ sixth consecutive year of losses and came despite the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United with a year left on his contract.

Juve blamed the losses on lower television rights and media revenues, plus the ‘restrictive measures’ to deal with the effects of COVID-19.

The club say they expect the situation to improve significantly during the current financial year but it is not anticipated they will reach a break-even point.

Juventus are waiting for an interim judgement in their combined legal action with Spanish duo Real Madrid and Barcelona over what they see at UEFA’s unhealthy stranglehold over hosting pan-European competitions.

Tonight's a big game for England, that's for sure. Most important ever though? Can't say I agree, sorry Tom.

England's last win against Germany came in the Euro 2020 last 16, their first knockout win over their old rivals since the 1966 World Cup final.

This Germany game is arguably the most important game we've ever played against them. This is a must win game for many reasons but primarily to finally break our dry spell and score a goal but also to salvage what ever World Cup chances England have! Unfortunately I'm not confident we'll do either...

England were relegated to the Nations League's second tier with a 1-0 defeat by Italy in Milan on Friday.

They face Germany tonight having gone five games without a victory for the first time since 2014.

England manager Gareth Southgate says he knows results at this year's World Cup will dictate his future, despite his contract running until 2024.

"I am not foolish," he said. "I know ultimately I will be judged on what happens at that World Cup."

As always you can have your say on all things football.

Wales fans, do you agree with Rob Page that relegation "is not the end of the world"?

    Rob PageImage source, Getty Images

Where does defeat leave Wales ahead of the World Cup? Manager Rob Page doesn't seem to think Sunday's loss will derail his side.

"We're disappointed that we lost the game and we got relegated, but it's not the end of the world and we're now fully focused on the World Cup," Page said.

"Let's take a reality check, let's take a look at the opposition we've been up against in the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. Our players are not playing week-in, week-out.

"We've had a lot of injuries coming into this.

"It's not going to derail us, it's not going to dent our confidence whatsoever."

  20. Wales relegated after Poland losspublished at 07:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2022

Only a win would have saved Wales from Nations League relegation at home to Poland but it was the visitors who came out on top.

Robert Lewandowski's touch set up Karol Swiderski to finish between Wayne Hennessey's legs in the 57th minute.

Wales had chances to equalise, with Brennan Johnson's low shot superbly saved by Wojciech Szczesny before Gareth Bale headed against the crossbar in added time.

But Poland ultimately ran out worthy 1-0 winners.
