After another tough Champions League lesson, Rangers need to dust themselves down for Saturday's home game with Aberdeen.

More from Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst: "When you don't concede the early goals, you stay in the game longer.

"In too many games we are conceding too many goals. Today, after 2-0 we were brave on the ball and created chances. This is the most chances we have created in the Champions League this season, which is very positive. They took their first two chances, and we didn't. That's disappointing because I think the players gave everything.

"[The Ajax game] is a chance to get our first points. We want to leave the tournament with our heads held high, and it's another chance to play at home. In every game we have played at home so far we have been in the game, and gave it away in the last 20 minutes.

"You want to compete at the highest level. It is tough, I said that when we qualified, but you want to be here. The more you play it, the more experience you will have as a team and as a player. It's a competition we want to keep competing in."

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst: "You have to start well in an environment like the one we faced today. The two goals we conceded in the first 15 minutes, we are two against one in the centre against one striker. For us to give those goals, it's too easy.

"The reaction we showed afterwards was very positive. We had a big moment to score just before half-time. In the second half, we showed character, we were well organised and tried to push for the goal.

"We created some big moments, but if you don't take those moments in these kinds of games it is difficult to win.

"You can't imagine the opponents we are facing. We think about our performances of course, but we have to be realistic. The level we are facing in this group is immense. You have to be ready for 90 minutes - I think the moments we created in the game, we should have taken."

Rangers have now lost five games in a row in European competition for only the third time (also 5 between October 2003 – August 2004 and September 1962 - October 1963).

It is the first time that it has ever happened in a single season.

Napoli are now unbeaten in the 16 games they have played this season and have set a new club record of 12 straight wins.

You don't want to peak too early in the Champions League, but it's going to take a very strong side to knock them out, that's for sure.

Rangers captain James Tavernier tells BT Sport: "We are disappointed that we lost. We can take some positives out of that performance compared to all the rest of the games we have played in this group.

"We let two easy goals in, in the first half and then in the second half, I felt we had two big chances that maybe could have levelled the game. We have to take the positives from this and build from it.

"They took their chances, we conceded from a corner, too. That's the level we're playing against, teams get chances and normally stick them away. We have to learn from that.

"We have got to pick ourselves up. The energy and way we tried to play we have to take that into Saturday and aim for the three points.

"It's a defeat, but it feels like a strange one because there were some good individual performances in that as well as a collective team.

"Our objective is to win any game we play and we need to put in a performance for our fans in our last game at home."

Many of the Rangers fans dotted around Naples in the past couple of days expected - feared - it would be worse. Much worse.

A 3-0 defeat is never something to celebrate, of course, but it allows Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his players to get on their flight later with their dignity packed in their luggage.

Rangers have one more game to find a win in this competition, with Ajax coming to Glasgow next Tuesday.

It would take a monumental effort to overhaul the Dutch team for third place, since they would need to better a 4-0 defeat in Amsterdam, but any kind of win would go a long way to salvaging some pride.

With Liverpool also winning 3-0 away to Ajax, Jurgen Klopp's side and Napoli have booked their places in the last 16.

Those two meet at Anfield next week and the home side will need a big win to leapfrog the Italians.

Napoli march on with a fifth win in Group A.

For Rangers, it's a fifth defeat.
