Rob Page has been explaining Tom Lockyer's recall, with the defender having failed to feature for Wales since their game with Finland in 2021.

“It’s a big blow for Rhys Norrington-Davies," he told BBC Radio Wales.

"I spoke to him and he was absolutely devastated because I think he’s arguably playing the best football he’s played.

“He covers a couple of positions for us so we were a little bit light on that.

“I thought if we have another knock to a centre back we’re a little bit light in that area.

“I’ve spoken with Nathan Jones [Luton’s Welsh manager] and he’s very complimentary about how Locks has been playing.

“When you are playing at that standard week in, week out in the Championship and giving levels of performance like he has done, I’d be a fool to ignore it.

“He’s earned the right to be back involved.”

The only one real surprise is Tom Lockyer being plucked out of nowhere really.

  5. 'Ideally he'd have played more minutes' - Page on Balepublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2022

Rob Page tells BBC Radio Wales about Gareth Bale's current fitness level and his goal in the MLS Cup final.

“Incredible again when he’s called upon. His athleticism to get the header.

“Ideally would we want him to play more minutes? Of course.

"Am I worried? No, because he’s shown time and time again that irrespective of how many minutes he’s played at club level he always comes in and has important moments in the game, whether it’s a free-kick against Austria or Ukraine.

“Big players step up for big occasions. We’ve said it with Aaron [Ramsey] in the past - Hungary at home when he got two goals for us - and it’s no different with Gareth,

“Opposing managers will look at the team sheet and if they see his name on the team sheet they know at any moment he can win a game for you."

To be fair Rob Page said ages ago he'd reward the players who helped Wales get to the World Cup, and that's exactly what he's done.

We have to trust in his decisions, and hope they'll lead to success at the World Cup.

Rob Page tells BBC Radio Wales about Joe Allen's situation.

“It’s not ideal if I’m honest but we’re giving every opportunity to get him fit to get into the starting eleven for the first game.

“There’s a couple of other players in a similar boat but Joe’s been so important to me overall the last couple of years – how I want to play and how he sits in front of the back four.

“He’s one of those from 2016 when they had the success and when he was playing really, really well Wales were winning games.

“Again he’s earned to right to be there.

“I spoke to him two days ago and he’s in a positive frame of mind and looking forward to it.”

  11. Roberts decision 'difficult'published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2022

Rob Page tells BBC One Wales' Catrin Heledd that it was a tough decision to leave our Tyler Roberts.

"He's had a little injury, he's been pushing hard to get back and it was tough having to tell him he hadn't made the 26-man squad.

"But he's got a big future for Wales, which I told him."

Rob Page has been explaining his squad selection in an interview on BBC Radio Wales.

“The worst part of this job is disappointing the ones that are not in the 26.

“The others I’ve not phoned to tell them they’re in, I’d rather them see it when you guys do as well.

“That’s going to be nice for them to see but on the other side of it there’s always going to be someone who’s disappointed.

“I’ve had a couple of uncomfortable conversations – some through injury, some through choice.

“We’ve got to move forward now and pick the squad that will go and compete and go and win us games."
