Buxton gave a good account of themselves in the second half. They seemed to open up and their press was higher, they had a bit more success.

I would have liked them to have had a bit more of a go as nothing was expected of them.

It's been a great journey and there's been a lot of positives from it.

It's been a comfortable night but it's not been plain sailing all the way. Ipswich had to be patient for the first 20 minutes and throughout the game Buxton have defended really well.

Buxton have soaked up a lot of pressure but eventually the experience and quality of Ipswich has shown.

    Ipswich 4-0 Buxton

Ipswich ease into the third round with a comfortable win over National League North side Buxton.

A double for Conor Chaplin and one apiece for Gassan Ahadme and Kayden Jackson did the job for the League One promotion hopefuls.

Remarkably, this is the first season in 16 years that the Blues have won two games in the FA Cup.

    FT: Newport 1-2 Derby

Newport County boss Graham Coughlan was upbeat despite his side's FA Cup second-round defeat by League One side Derby County, having kept them at bay for much of the 90 minutes.

“It’s an opportunity missed,” he said. “We had chances galore but ‘could haves’ and ‘should haves’ don’t win football games.

“Putting the ball in the net and keeping it out at the other end wins football games and we didn’t do that today.

“The lads are naturally disappointed. They pushed a really top team really hard, and I thought their work-rate, their attitude and commitment were absolutely immense.

“We had some great chances, but we’ve fallen asleep at key moments in the game and made a couple of errors.

“But if they keep playing like that then the future should be bright for this group of players.”

Theo Richardson has had a good night in the Bucks goal, despite the scoreline.

He tips over a decent effort from Kyle Edwards that actually wouldn't have counted because the offside flag was up.

He wasn't to know though and can be pleased with his evening's work.

Derby County boss Paul Warne says he delivered "a few home truths" at half-time before the Rams fought back with two second-half goals to get past League Two side Newport.

"I thought our play was too slow and sluggish," he told BBC Radio Derby of the first-half performance.

"I don’t think anyone was brave enough to go past anyone, I don’t think we were brave enough to put crosses in.

"The first-half performance was pretty deplorable really. I was disappointed with the fist half - no speed, no aggression, no nothing.

"It doesn’t matter who you playing against, you are not going to win football matches like that.

"We had to change it, I could have taken anybody off and just had to put players on that wanted to get past people.

"We changed our system and thought it was chalk an cheese really. It was like the team I want to manage – it was bit more pace, cross the ball, get shots on.

"We could have won at a canter in the end."

    Buxton not going quietly.

The National League side cause some real concern in the home rearguard and Harry Bunn's shot is eventually deflected behind for their first corner of the game.

It comes to nothing but some hope yet that they could give their travelling support something to cheer about.

There's definitely no way back now. Buxton have probably had more possession in the last five minutes but that has put a nail in the coffin.

They don't want it to become five or six. That goal has brightened up the second half as Ipswich have been dominant but not really created any chances other than the one that hit the post.

    Job done.

The League One side will be taking their place in the third round of the FA Cup.

In the second half Buxton have been more spirited. People will say they're already 2-0 down but they've shown more in the second half and they've tried to get their passes in.

Ipswich are a good side and their manager has put out one of his best sides which shows he's taking it seriously because getting to the third round is great for the football club.

  14. 'We could have had six in the first half'published at 18:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2022

    FT: Burton 6-1 Chippenham

Burton dispatched Chippenham in the non-league side's first ever appearance in the second round, but a bullish Brewers boss believes it could have been even better for his side.

Burton manager Dino Maamria told BBC Radio Derby:

"I'd have liked to be six-up in the first half because I thought our first half was excellent. I was disappointed the third didn't count as Victor was onside.

"Our preparation for this game was excellent. We're playing against a team from lower down, that beat Lincoln before. I went to watch them, we did our homework on every player in the squad, we shared it with our players and I thought our players equipped themselves really well. "

"Deji Oshilaja was outstanding, not just his goal, he was the whole week, and to have those players in your camp you know you're in a good place.

"(Chippenham) showed glimpses in the second half of what they can do, I said in the week they can play if you give them time and space. We missed a few chances but they caused us a few problems in the second half, so credit to them as well."

It's very dififcult for Ipswich to break Buxton down, they're still sitting there with five at the back and four in front of them, and they're pretty much on the edge of their own box.

Ipswich are trying to move the ball from side to side but Buxton are still hanging on in there. You have to give them credit.

Chippenham's run in the FA Cup came to an end as the National League South side were well beaten at League One Burton Albion.

Chippenham boss Gary Horgan told BBC Radio Wiltshire:

"I am always disappointed when we've lost a game, irrespective of the opposition. I am really proud of the second half performance, I though we were the better side for the first 15 minutes of the second half, we created a couple of good openings, but as is always likely to happen we got caught on the counter. Fair play to Burton who were absolutely clinical.

"I am really proud but tinged with disappointment. Maybe we were a bit too passive first half, that wasn't necessarily the plan.

"When you take the meat from the bones we've just been beaten by a League One side, at their ground, and for 25 minutes we were more than in it, and in the second half we were the better side for 15 or 20."

Boreham Wood reached round three for the third successive season with a comfortable away win against League One side Bristol Rovers earlier this afternoon - and boss Luke Garrard knows exactly who he wants in Monday's draw.

“I would love it if we were drawn to play against Arsenal at the Emirates. I’m an Arsenal fan and I live in North London and we’ve got lots of ties with the club," he said.

“It really would be a dream come true for me to face Arsenal and be alongside Mikel Arteta on the sidelines.

“He is doing a fantastic job and if we did come up against each other I’m sure I wouldn’t watch the game because I’d just be stood there admiring him.”
