There were a few bits of luck there for Celtic. Make no mistake, Hatate has hit it well but it's the deflection that beats the keeper.

    Reo Hatate

Celtic are up and running, and you can't say it hasn't been coming.

A bit messy from St Johnstone, they fail to clear the ball as it comes out to the onrushing Reo Hatate.

His strike from just outside the box takes a nick off Drey Wright on its way into the net.

O'Riley has got to score for me. It's on his left foot, the pace is already on the ball. He just needs to hit the target.

    Matty Kennedy

    What a hit!

Kennedy hits a rasping strike with his right boot from 25 yards and it goes up and over Trevor Carson.

The goalkeeper denied him a minute before. Not this time.

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

St Mirren clearly have a ploy to put in really high, hanging corners to test Aberdeen's centre-backs.

They're getting joy with it, the visitors are struggling to cope.

  9. Close!published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

Kyogo is appealing his nodded effort from a corner is over, but the officials reckon goalkeeper Remi Matthews kept it out.

It's close to crossing the line for sure but, with no goal line technology, it goes to a background VAR check and play goes on.

A warning shot for the Saints.

  10. CLOSE!published at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

The home side have come flying out in Paisley. They force a corner and when it comes in Curtis Main flicks the ball goalward, then Marcus Fraser steers it on target.

But Aberdeen's Hayden Coulson nods it over the bar.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    And away we go.

Celtic are looking for an 11th successive league win but they needed a late, late goal to see off St Johnstone last time.

Aberdeen are out to improve a ropey away record, while St Mirren have been on fire at home this season.

    St Mirren v Aberdeen (12:30)

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at SMISA Stadium

This has the makings of a highly competitive contest with the home side desperate to get back in action after the World Cup break and extend their impressive home record.

Aberdeen have been through the ringer this week and badly need something positive.

It's the outcome and nature of the loss against Rangers rather than some of the things they achieved in the match that they have to somehow disregard.

Expect both sides to really go for this.

  13. St Johnstone aware of the underdog tag - Davidsonpublished at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    Celtic v St Johnstone (12:30)

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson says he has been watching Morocco beating Spain at the World Cup ahead of today's game against Celtic.

"There are different ways to win games of football," he tells BBC Sportsound. "There needs to be a certain philosophy of combatting the opposition but also playing well yourself.

"Our last game against Celtic was close, but we didn't keep the ball well so I will be asking my players to do that better, be braver and ask questions.

"We could get done, but we could also get a result from it."

Last week's goal-hero, Ali Crawford, sits on the bench again, with Davidson saying the midfielder is "very unlucky"

"We are set up slightly different, if it was a more attacking team, he definitely would have been in," he explains.

  14. 'Players demand feedback' - Postecogloupublished at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    Celtic v St Johnstone (12:30)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Sportsound he is "confident he can do a job there" on Reo Hatate's switch to full-back, explaining that he has played the position before in Japan.

"Coming back from the break it was important that we picked up some sort of momentum and I think we've done that in the last two games.

"We know there are areas we can improve and the players demand feedback from me. That's what they want.

"St Johnstone are set up very well by Callum Davidson. They do it week in, week out and it will be a tough challenge for us to break them down."

  15. St Mirren raring to go - Robinsonpublished at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    St Mirren v Aberdeen (12:30)

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson outlines what to expect from his team this afternoon after a six-week break.

"A team that's desperate to get back on the pitch again and hit the ground running," he said on Sportsound.

"The attitude and spirit in the camp has been fantastic.

"I don't look at the league table at this stage. It's very important to pick up points and, for a club our size, stay away from the relegation zone."

  16. Aberdeen have 'parked' disappointmentpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    St Mirren v Aberdeen (12:30)

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin says it's time to move on from double Old Firm disappointment.

"The disappointment from the Rangers game has been well spoken about," he said on Sportsound.

"There was a lot of emotion and the players were extremely down.

"But the great thing about football is the next game is never too far away. We've parked it and put it behind us and we move on to another difficult game in Paisley.

"This as tough an away day as you can get in the league really. They're very well organised. Stephen has them well drilled.

"Our centre-backs are going to have to compete and we're going to have to be aggressive all over the pitch."

  17. Kennedy returns for Donspublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    St Mirren v Aberdeen (12:30)

Aberdeen have been on the wrong end of two sore home defeats to Rangers and Celtic, losing out to late goals each time.

Manager Jim Goodwin makes just one change from the loss to the Ibrox side, with Matty Kennedy back from injury to replace Jayden Richardson at right wing-back.

  18. Familiar line-up for St Mirrenpublished at 12:13 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    St Mirren v Aberdeen (12:30)

This is St Mirren's first match in six weeks after last weekend's postponement.

It's a familiar line-up, with Australia's Keanu Baccus in midfield after his recent tussle with Lionel Messi and co.

Forward Toyosi Olusanya has finally recovered from a broken toe and could make his first league appearance off the bench.

  19. St Johnstone swap between the stickspublished at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    Celtic v St Johnstone (12:30)

St Johnstone make three changes from last Saturday's 2-1 victory at Ross County.

Remi Matthews is back between the sticks in place of Elliot Parish.

Ryan McGowan is back from suspension while Adam Montgomery cannot play against his parent club.

David Wotherspoon drops out with the experienced Graham Carey coming in and Ali Crawford has to remain on the bench despite scoring twice as a sub up in Dingwall.

  20. Mooy, Forrest & Maeda start for Celticpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 24 December 2022

    Celtic v St Johnstone (12:30)

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou makes three changes following Wednesday's 2-1 win over Livingston and he's short of a right-back.

Anthony Ralston was injured in that victory and Josip Juranovic is not back from his World Cup exploits until Boxing Day.

It looks like Reo Hatate is filling in, with Aaron Mooy added to the midfield, while James Forrest and Daizen Maeda take the places of Liel Abada, and Jota, who drop to the bench.
