Neil, go and get some glorious fresh air and a coffee from the well-known pasty establishment.

While we continue to look ahead to England’s quarter-final meeting with France on Saturday, let’s sprinkle a little bit of Monday’s last-16 ties in as well.

We hear a lot about the England player’s preparation for penalties during a major tournament and then speaking about a skills net. Well, this is it. The players use it to refine their technique and pick their spot before using the goalkeepers for the final practice.

Homboi Paggy: You don't win matches by stopping Mbappe, you win games by scoring more than the opposition. You can stop Mbappe and still lose, Mbappe can have a great game and still lose.

  6. Which Mbappe goal was better?published at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

England v France (19:00 GMT, Sat)

Kylian Mbappe is having himself a tournament.

The 23-year-old France forward was electric once again against Poland on Sunday, scoring a brace to take his tally for the World Cup so far to five. He has scored 16 goals in his past 14 games for France and 33 overall from 63 appearances.

The Paris St-Germain player has also now surpassed Pele's tally of scoring seven World Cup goals before the age of 24.

Both of Mbappe's his goals came from similar positions in the penalty area. Which did you like best?

You can never please some England fans; lots of talk before the game yesterday about how Senegal are the African Champions, looked good in the group and were no pushovers…only for us to win comfortably and suddenly it’s not a real test?! Remind me, who exactly has tested France yet?…Believe!

There were some awkward moments early on in the game, particularly for Harry Maguire, and people are getting on his back, but he rode it out and that's what good defenders do.

They kept another clean sheet and people forget that.

The football England played - Gareth gets a bad press sometimes for being a functional sort of manager but the attacking play we saw for the three goals was fantastic and really good to watch.

  9. 'Southgate should double up'published at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

Tweet using #bbcfootball or Text 81111 (UK standard rates apply) or WhatsApp 03301231826

John Booth: Only way to beat France is to stop Mbappe and Griezmann. Let's not be naive, no single defender is stopping Mbappe. Southgate should double up on Mbappe playing a back three. Walker and Trippier ought to both start.

  10. 'This is such a grounded team'published at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

England v France (19:00 GMT, Sat)

The fans I've been speaking to in Doha are pretty down to earth. What they like is seeing England playing without fear, on the front foot, unleashing this fabulous young talent that they have.

Yes, a couple of fans in the stands have inflatable World Cups and there's a lot of noise around the team - but this is such a grounded team because of Gareth Southgate, because of Steve Holland, because of the nature of the players.

Jordan Henderson doesn't get carried away, Harry Kane doesn't get carried away, these young players who have come through the academies and the age groups so there's a tight bond between them, they're not getting carried away.

So when they play France - who have every reason to get carried away because they are the world champions, because they have Kylian Mbappe - the English players will go there and respect them, but they won't fear them, which has been an issue with England in the past.

It's not arrogance, there's just a belief in the squad.

Just a heads up that England's players are due to start training in the next half an hour. They're also putting a player up for the media later. We'll let you know who that is as soon as we find out, and bring you all they have to say right here.

Every English fan calm down! Yes I agree with everything that’s being said re Bellingham and co and I believe too.. but we’ve been here before so please enjoy the moment with some mild perspective. France are no pushovers.

Tweet using #bbcfootball or Text 81111 (UK standard rates apply)

Thewholetruth: Yes France will be a test, and they have a couple of talented players. Mbappe needs to be marked and restricted. Not sure if England know how to do that, but failing to do that will have severe consequences. Keep him quiet and you keep the whole team quiet.

  14. 'Fantastic chance - but France have quality everywhere'published at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Matt from Bridgwater in Somerset is flying out to the quarter-final in Qatar with his two children after luckily landing tickets before the draw was even made:

"The optimist in me thinks we have a very, very good chance against France. The Spurs fan in me thinks that you look at their side and the quality they have got and it will be an extremely tough game.

"The way Bellingham is playing at the moment - he is clearly a world-class player and Birmingham knew exactly what they were doing when everyone mocked them for retiring his shirt number when he left them at the age of 16 or 17 - he is a very special player and attacking-wise we can stand up against any nation out there.

"Defensively there are still some question marks and France's attack is so good. I think Walker against Mbappe is going to be absolutely critical come Saturday night.

"If Walker can keep with Mbappe and keep him quieter than other teams have then we stand a fantastic chance but there is just quality everywhere - two or three world-class players in every single position in the French team."

  15. 'Not enjoyable viewing'published at 11:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

Tweet using #bbcfootball or Text 81111 (UK standard rates apply)

Stuart Miller: Senegal were well below par and we were woeful for the first 3rd of this game. It's not enjoyable viewing in large parts, sideways/backwards, it's like watching Spurs. France is the real test and will expose this defence.

  18. A step too far?published at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

Karl Smith: I would love it for England to reach the semi finals but I just can't see it, France are too strong in my opinion and Mbappe's speed on the pitch and in his mind, his football intelligence make them a step too far for this England team.
