With all eyes on Kylian Mbappe, one player is going under the radar before England's quarter-final with France.

In Euro 2016, Antoine Griezmann won the Golden Boot as France, the hosts, reached the final only to lose in extra time to Portugal.

The team was then known as the "Griezmann Generation".

Then came Mbappe, and Griezmann now plays as more of support player to arguably the best player in the world. He's even moved into midfield for his country despite still playing as a striker for Atletico Madrid.

"My role is quite free," said Griezmann, who has 42 goals for his country but none now in 13 appearances.

"With three players in front of me I have more possibilities and more choices. Maybe I am not as close to the opposition area. I am not going to have 50 shots on goal per game but I am not worried about scoring goals.

"I think the team needs me more at the heart of the action. We need that balance."

France's assistant coach Guy Stephan says Griezmann has an "incredible range to his game".

"The new position suits him. You just need to see the smile on his face."

It's clear that France are a bit nervous about England's captain.

Their now all-time leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud said: "I've spoken to Hugo Lloris about Harry Kane because he has a profile that can maybe be compared to mine.

"He's very powerful and over the last few years he's moved further down the pitch to be more involved in the game. He's also very good at assists and a good finisher that's clinical. He's generous with his team mates and has the ability to hurt opponents.

"He's obviously a great asset to the English team. There's similarities between us but differences too."

Kyle Walker was asked about the duel between Tottenham team-mates Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane and France's assistant coach Guy Stephan told the media yesterday that their club connection makes it "a match within a match."

"Lloris is going to fight," Stephan said. "I'm not going to tell you any of his secrets. I think he's going to play on Saturday and he's got an amazing record.

"He knows Harry Kane, he knows how he kicks the ball and how he moves on the pitch. We can consider that as a match within a match because they play for the same club.

"They'll be talking to each other when they get back to Tottenham but hopefully one will be more happier than the other!"

It's bad enough just trying to pick one team.

Police investigating a break-in at the home of England star Raheem Sterling are not linking it to another attempted burglary in the same village.

Surrey Police said earlier it was looking into whether the two raids in Oxshott were linked - but is now ruling that out "at this time".

Walker on reports of a tornado and forecast for rain on Saturday: "I' never thought I'd say it but I can't wait to see some rain, living in Manchester!

"It'll be something France will have to deal with too. I don't think a little bit of rain will make that much difference to who wins."

Walker on whether England play "with the handbrake on" in big games: "This is a great opportunity to show we can beat a big team. To beat France would give us confidence.

"The manager makes the right call to play a four or a five in defence. It is harsh to judge him on what he's done previously. Let's just go off the last game, which I thought we won impressively."

Walker on whether England are underdogs: "We're playing the world champions, but we are two good teams that will go toe to toe. You've seen what can happen in 90 plus minutes.

"We have great talent - talk about the goals we have scored and the clean sheets that we've kept.

"In my eyes, neither team is the underdogs or the favourites."

Walker on England's improvement since reaching the semi-finals at Russia 2018: "I feel the standard of players has gone up another level in this tournament.

"As a team in Russia, we were a little inexperienced in big matches. We got to the semi-final, we scored early and we didnt know how to handle that.

"We're more equipped now.

"Morocco went and got the result they wanted and there have been other surprises so that shows the standard of players have gone up since Russia."

Walker on Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane's club connection at Spurs: "If I told you any secrets, then it wouldn't be a secret, Harry, me and Eric Dier have played with him. Harry will know what to do in the position but Hugo will too. So it's like cat and mouse.

"We desperately want to win, for us and the nation - we've worked so hard."

Walker on the new generation of England players: "It is great for the English game. As you mentioned, Jude [Bellingham] being one who has the courage to play for England that others didn't have when they were younger. They have no fear and they go in and express themselves.

"We have to pay a big compliment to the manager. He has allowed the youngsters that chance but they want to be the best they can be as a footballer."

Walker on the future of his international career: "I'm a guy that takes a game at a time. I don't really look towards the future. I will go as long as possible, for myself, my family, my nation.

"I feel really fit, energetic and I want to achieve more. The hunger is still there so it's not going to happen anytime soon.

"But it will come to an end eventually.

"In 2024, I'll be 34. As long as I'm performing well and the manager picks me then we will see."

Walker on Dave the cat, one of the squad's two honorary mascots in Qatar: "He's fine. He had a bit of a scrap over food with the other cat the other night.

"He's doing well. Hopefully he will come home if we win the World Cup.

"Hopefully he is a good luck charm."

On Mbappe saying Walker gave him a tough game last time in the Champions League: "That's nice to hear because he had a tough game against me. I know he's a top player but we're not playing tennis. It's not a solo sport, it's a team game.

"Anything can happen in 90 minutes. They need to worry about us, not just us worrying about them."

Walker on the threats posed by France: "When we've played Paris St-Germain in the Champions League, we're not just thinking of Mbappe and it's the same on Saturday. Yes he's a tool in their armoury - and a very good one - but you can't underestimate their other players.

"We know he's a great player and that's why he's the focus of all questions. But let's not forget Olivier Giroud who has scored lots of goals, Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann.

"For me all the questions shouldn't be about him [Mbappe]. Yes I appreciate he's a great footballer but there are others too."

Walker on playing as a centre-back or right-back for England: "I don't think much changes; the system we play for Manchester City or England. I don't bomb forward as much as I used to playing as a wing-back for Tottenham.

"It is about reading the game and adapting. I do what the manager asks."
