Gareth Southgate will be thinking if he steps down then will there ever be a way back into the England managerial position.
It will come down to 'will I get this opportunity again?' I think he will sit and contemplate things he will put his family first.
But he know he is not going to get that opportunity again. I think in a couple of weeks he will announce he will stay on.
Chris Sutton thinks Gareth Southgate will make a decision about his future in two weeks - and that he will stay. Do you agree?
Hit the thumbs.

Suresh: If Southgate does decide to leave, I think the best person to take over would be Jurgen Klinsmann. A WC & Euros winner who knows English football very well. As a striker he’d help Kane and other players embrace pressure from a position of personal experience.

Gareth Southgate talked in that interview to me a lot about being aware that he alienated certain sections of the fan base because he has stepped into issues where he didn't have to or want to get into.
He's talked a lot about Covid. He encouraged people to get vaccinated. He made public his support for lockdowns and he said the wild stuff he gets [letters] is all about the vaccines.
He's also had a lot of abuse over his stance about taking the knee, on social justice and issues on race and racism.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has urged Harry Maguire to bring his World Cup form back to Old Trafford, according to the Daily Express.
United resume their season in eight days time when they entertain Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on 21 December.

When I interviewed Gareth Southgate before the World Cup, he told me that not only does he get [abusive] letters sent to him at St George's Park that his assistant has to wade through, he gets them to his house.
That's really intrusive. There is a threat there. There is a 'I know where you are' that's really troubling.
That's your family, that's your life.

Ravi: Only one team can win the World Cup. The manager of the winning team is good and knows what he’s doing. All the other teams in the world have “failed” because they have “clueless” managers who should all be sacked. Without the useless old manager holding them back they will all then win the World Cup next time.

Where should England turn to next should Gareth Southgate decide to walk away from the job?
Are the FA right to explore options abroad? And where would Southgate go next? USA? Premier League?
Let us know the usual way...

Gareth Southgate has breathed new life into England since taking over, and having looked like genuine contenders in Qatar, they now seem close to ending their long wait for a major trophy.
With several of the squad still to hit their peak, along with the strong culture and spirit he has helped to develop, Southgate may feel he has unfinished business at the next Euros at least.
The FA, his players and the majority of fans want him to stay, and that support may prove decisive when he considers what to do.
And yet it would not be a surprise if Southgate feels he has taken the side as far as he can and walks away.
And here is the opinion of Joey Barton, manager of League One Bristol Rovers, on what should happen to Gareth Southgate.

My instinct is Gareth Southgate's initial reaction will be to walk away.
But the one thing that would compel him to stay is that he looks through that team and sees Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham and thinks 'there is a core of a really good team'.
But six years as an international manager is a really long time because it is emotionally draining.

Badwolf: Let's be careful about what we wish for. Whatever our opinions, Gareth Southgate has earned the right to decide when to fall on his sword. There is no obvious choice to replace him.
England could look abroad should Gareth Southgate decide to leave his role, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Southgate has two years left on his contract but says he is "conflicted" about his future having "found large parts of the last 18 months difficult".
Will he stay or will he go?
