"It was a great accomplishment. But we are greedy so we want to be in the final.

"With the next World Cup we are going to be up there to be in the final. We are looking to pass the quarters and semi-final.

"We know we can be in a final, we know we can win the World Cup."

More from Morocco head coach Walid Regragui, who is asked to share what learnings he's made from the first game between his side and Croatia: "We knew that Croatia were going to be one of the best teams in the competition.

"After the first game we noted that our performance was very good and we had a lot of people saying that Croatia were coming to the end of a cycle and we could sweep the rug from under their feet.

"We know that Croatia got a lot of stick because they weren't able to beat Morocco, who were meant to be the underdog. Now we've both reached the semi-finals.

"I believe tomorrow will be very different to the first game. There was a a lot of respect and preparation and hesitation during the first game. But going into tomorrow, both sides have had a lot more game time.

"I hope that we're going to be able to put on a good show for the end of the tournament. There will be good tactics, and both teams will be in it to win it. I think it will be a more open game from both sides."

Walid Regragui has joined by Zakaria Aboukhlal at the pre-match press conference and the striker was asked about his experience at this World Cup.

"It has been amazing," said Aboukhlal.

"It is a dream for me to play in a World Cup and I am 22 years old now, so to play in a World Cup and score, like I say, it was my biggest dream.

"Now we are fighting for third place, which is something that nobody expected, but it is like a dream coming true."

More from Morocco head coach Walid Regragui: "We need to clear our heads a little bit.

"When you play a semi-final, and it was our first at a World Cup, the emotions are running high. It was quite difficult coming out of that game.

"However, my players still have the appetite. They want to finish well and they know they've still got one game with everything to play for. They have understood what is at stake.

"Obviously finishing third is not the same as the finishing fourth and it would be great to take a medal home with us.

"We want to ensure that we finish well and my players have digested the defeat by France.

"They've got their heads around the fact they are part of the best teams in the world. We need to clear our heads and go into this game with our heads held high."

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has been speaking ahead of the third-place play-off against Croatia on Saturday.

His side became the first African team to ever reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, but will fight for the bronze medal after their 2-0 last-four defeat by France.

While likening it to winning the "booby prize", he is keen to be successful in the third place play-off.

"I guess it the worst game that we have to play," said Regragui. "But we're still excited to play it despite the disappointment.

"We obviously would have liked to be in the actual final but there is third place we play for. We want to finish on the podium.

"It is going to be quite difficult with fatigue, but there are also mental hurdles that we need to overcome. We know that Croatia will also want to finish third. We played them in our first game so it will be a nice finisher. It will be no walk in the park."

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has been asked about the threat posed by Croatia and in particular Luka Modric.

At 37, Modric is set to play his last World Cup game on Saturday.

"Croatia played in the last final and have good players, such as Luka Modric," said Regragui.

"He has something about him, but we'll stay focused on our players. I have a lot of good players and if my team stays focussed just on Modric, that will be a big mistake.

"It is important we play our football, Moroccan football with a positive attitude and you give everything. After this game I hope we have no regrets. that is important for our team."

  16. Vittorio Pozzo's legacy and a record that is finally under threatpublished at 07:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2022

When Didier Deschamps leads his France side out to face Argentina in Sunday's World Cup final, he will be hoping to take a further big step towards becoming only the second manager to retain the trophy.

Just two nations have managed to win back-to-back men's World Cups, Italy in 1934 and 1938 and Brazil in 1958 and 1962, but with the Selecao job changing hands between successes, former Azzurri coach Vittorio Pozzo stands alone.

Nicknamed Il Vecchio Maestro (the Old Master) in coaching circles, Pozzo was considered a visionary of the time and is credited as one of the minds behind the Metodo formation, the earliest example of the 4-3-3 we recognise today.

Yet far from being revered as the only manager to win the men's World Cup twice, Pozzo remains relatively little known. And there is a reason for that.

Didier Deschamps will become the sixth boss to manage in multiple men's World Cup finals.

Only one of the other five have won both - Italy's Vittorio Pozzo in 1934 and 1938.

Deschamps is actually going for his third World Cup. He won it in 1998 as a player. Les Bleus have never won a World Cup without him.
