  3. Gills the cup kingspublished at 21:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2022

FT: Gillingham 3-2 Dag & Red

Neil Harris' Gillingham may be second-bottom in League Two but this is now two impressive cup runs they've gone on.

They're into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup - where they'll face Wolves later this month - having beaten Premier League Brentford on penalties.

And now they welcome Leicester to the Priestfield Stadium in the FA Cup. If only they could replicate that form in the league...

    Peter Lloyd

    BBC Radio Kent summariser

"A hugely important win for Gillingham. In the context of a difficult season, the cup comes to the rescue."

  5. 'A ding-dong tie'published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2022

FT: Gillingham 3-2 Dag & Red

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Three

It was a proper ding-dong FA Cup tie, where both teams were at it from the first minute.

The sending off really threw the cat amongst the pigeons.

Dagenham always looked vulnerable from set-pieces.

  6. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2022

    Gillingham 3-2 Dag & Red

The tie restarts for all of 30 seconds before the full-time whistle is blown.

League Two strugglers will host Premier League Leicester City in the FA Cup third round.

You have to feel for non-league Dagenham, who recovered to 2-2 after going down to 10 men, but they've been eliminated.

  7. goal

GOAL: Gillingham 3-2 Dag & Redpublished at 90+5 mins

    Hakeeb Adelakun

    It's a 95th-minute winner for Gillingham!

The hosts clear Dagenham's corner and Hakeeb Adelakun shows great pace to break to the penalty area, receive Scott Kashket's pass and lash in.

    Ten-man Dagenham are gutted.

  8. Postpublished at 90+5 mins

    Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Red

Ten-man Dagenham defend the set-pieces adequately on this occasion.

Down the other end Josh Walker wins the non-league visitors a corner of their own,

    Not long left now.

  9. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Red

Scott Kashket shows persistence along the byeline to win Gillingham a corner.

The hosts have already scored from two of these tonight...

  10. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90+1 mins

    Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Red

We're five minutes of injury time away from a potential 30 minutes of extra time.

This one has turned into an end-to-end tie now.

  11. Postpublished at 90 mins

    Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Red

My colleague Ged Scott is writing the match report for this tie and has given me the following stat...

Gillingham now have 12 goals in cup competitions this season (in 11 games) - double their six in the league (in 20 games).

Meanwhile, Dom Jefferies has been booked for the hosts.

  12. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 88 mins

    Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Red

Dagenham, down to 10 men, are really taking this to Gillingham in the closing stages.

Junior Morais goes down under a challenge in the penalty area, but aside from himself and the travelling fans no-one really believes that's a penalty.

  13. goal

GOAL: Gillingham 2-2 Dag & Redpublished at 84 mins

    George Saunders

Oh my goodness - 10-man Dagenham have equalised!

George Saunders has only recently returned from long-term injury but latches on to Max Ehmer's poor defensive header and rounds Gillingham keeper Jake Turner before calmly rolling the ball into the net.

Could we be heading to extra time?

    Gillingham 2-1 Dag & Red

Jords: Stupid tackle when your team can still get back in the game. Fella wanted an early bath in these temperatures.

We're lucky Gillingham's Lewis Walker isn't also having an early bath - the tackle looked a potential leg-breaker, thankfully he seems to be OK...

    BBC Radio Kent commentator

"Lewis Walker has picked himself up but is looking a bit tentative."

  16. RED CARD (Dagenham)published at 79 mins

    Gillingham 2-1 Dag & Red

It goes from bad to worse for Dagenham - Harry Phipps goes studs-up into a challenge, catching Lewis Walker just below the knee.

It's a horror challenge and ref Thomas Kirk rightly produces a red card to reduce the non-league visitors to 10 men.

Gillingham are now a goal, and a man, to the good.

  17. goal

GOAL: Gillingham 2-1 Dag & Redpublished at 77 mins

    Max Ehmer

For the second time Gillingham score a header from a corner and now they lead!

It's Alex MacDonald's cross this time and German centre-back Max Ehmer does ever so well to guide the ball in.

Dagenham will be kicking themselves - defending set-pieces is clearly a weakness.

  18. CLOSE!published at 76 mins

    Gillingham 1-1 Dag & Red

That's a very decent chance for Gillingham gone begging.

Hakeeb Adelakun plays a lovely one-two down the right and crosses low for substitute Scott Kashket, who can only prod wide at the near post.

The striker has to hit the target, at least.

  19. Postpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2022

    Matt Cole

    BBC Radio Kent commentator

"You wonder now whether a single goal in the second half might win this."

  20. Postpublished at 71 mins

    Gillingham 1-1 Dag & Red

Dagenham make an error in their own half and Gillingham's Scott Kashket tries to find Lewis Walker with a low cross, but it's an easy one for the visiting keeper.

You feel both sides are now aware of the prize that awaits them should they win...
