Sheffield Wednesday have got to get Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the game. He's not touched the ball. Look at the player who's playing a similar role for Newcastle, Elliot Anderson - everything seems to be coming through him.

A lovely Newcastle move, free-flowing from deep eventually sees Matt Ritchie scoop his shot over the bar from his weaker right boot.

  8. Wrexham in dreamlandpublished at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Coventry 1-3 Wrexham

Coventry have tried to find an equaliser in this tie but with seven minutes added on in the first half, the ball is being headed around in the hosts' box and eventually, Wrexham midfielder Tom O'Connor puts it into the back of the net.

Boos rang out from the home fans at the half-time whistle.

Elsewhere, in the all-Championship match, bottom side Wigan are level with Luton Town at Kenilworth Road after Harry Cornick cancelled out Tom Naylor's opener in stoppage time.

League Two Grimsby Town and Burton Albion of League One have both had chances to open the scoring at Blundell Park but it remains goalless at the break.

Sheffield Wednesday have got a problem inside Marvin Johnson. Reece James is getting dragged into areas he's not used to against opposition of this level. There's a gap down that left-hand side of the [back] three.

Alexander Isak there, he's just blasted it. I know he's just come back but a player of that ability has got to place.

    Martin Keown

Sheffield Wednesday are really well set up. They just need to be patient. Normally they are running games here, in League One, but maybe not tonight.

  11. CLOSE!published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Still rusty after his comeback.

Another presentable chances falls Alexander Isak's way, slipped in by Jvaier Manquillo but he strikes a drive which is batted out by Cameron Dawson.

I expected to see Newcastle controlling the play but there is always that feeling if Sheffield Wednesday get the ball, they are going to blast forward with pace.

  13. Postpublished at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who had a very unconvincing game on loan at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, looks a bit dodgy once more playing a pass straight out of play.

Sheffield Wednesday don't look intimidated. They're holding their own and have had two good chances. Yes, Newcastle have as well, so it's been a good start to the game. It's a good Cup tie.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    HT: Brentford 0-0 West Ham

Half time at Brentford and very much goalless. The only moment of quality saw Yoane Wissa get on the end of a fine low cross from Keane Lewis-Potter but West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski did well to send the shot around the post.

Sloppy play. Windass is on it in a flash, he just can't quite get the touch that he needs. The keeper had no chance of getting anywhere near that.

  17. CLOSE!published at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle are gifting Sheffield Wednesday opportunities but the hosts cannot capitalise.

Elliot Anderson plays a blind backpass towards his own area which is latched onto by Josh Windass, but Dean's son is on the stretcher and puts his effort wide.

  18. Postpublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

Brentford's Josh Dasilva swings in a dangerous free-kick left-footed close to the right touchline and it's excellent defending from Nayef Aguerd at the near post to head it away for West Ham.

Conditions still horrible, and the match hasn't been much better.
