    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

As you'd expect, the away side have started strongly. Solly March's chipped ball to the back post is just a little too high for Kaoru Mitoma.

  3. CLOSE!published at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Hull City 0-0 Fulham

It's Fulham who had started better in the Marco Silva derby, with the Premier League side quickly settling into their rhythm and dominating possession.

But that's a huge chance for the hosts early in this match! Bobby De Cordova-Reid makes a complete mess of a seemingly routine clearance and Harvey Vale is in on goal, but he slides his shot wide of the target.

  4. Postpublished at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

Michael Carrick has made a fine start to his managerial reign at Boro. This is a test and a half, though. Brighton belted Everton last time out and are going just grand in the Premier League.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

The Cherries look for a fast start but Jaidon Anthony's cross skips through the box, ahead of Dominic Solanke, and out for a goal-kick.

    Blackpool 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Can 1953 FA Cup winners Blackpool cause a shock at Bloomfield Road?

Nottingham Forest won the most recent meeting in last season's Championship 4-1 on their way to Premier League promotion and 27 places currently separate the sides in the football pyramid.

  7. Postpublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Bournemouth 0-0 Burnley

Burnley are flying in the Championship, Bournemouth are sliding in the Premier League. This is a very good chance for the Clarets to test how top-flight ready they might be.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

  9. 'Portsmouth made it a tough game for us'published at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Portsmouth

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's assistant coach Cristian Stellini speaking to Match of the Day: "I think we have to compliment Portsmouth because they played a good game and made it a tough game for us. It was not easy to find away to score.

"We had the possession and had the game under control so we are happy. Maybe we could have scored earlier but we couldn't find a goal. After we scored the game was different and it was much better for us.

"We had to stretch them to find a way to score [after half-time]. We tried to move players, get Oliver Skipp into the box, drop Harry Kane [into space] to find a solution and we found it immediately.

"We have to take care of him because he's our best player and he's the captain of England. We have tough games in front of us and Harry is important for us."

  10. 'We have to be calm, there is a game plan'published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

Boreham Wood v Accrington Stanley (15:00 GMT)

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard speaking to Final Score: "We have to calm the players have to mirror there is a game plan that hopefully they implement we need a bit of luck and if the players give 100% I can ask no more.

"We need to ensure we are right on our game against Bristol Rovers I think we did everything that was asked of us, we got two set piece goals. We are excited the challenge and hopefully there can be another cup upset.

"We have only named five out of nine substitutes because we have injuries, we are missing two key players. We have brought in David Agbontohoma from Sheffield Wednesday and we are hopeful he can put in a performance that goes on and wins us the game."

  11. 'The Marco Silva derby?'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Hull v Fulham (15:00 GMT)

    Naz Premji
BBC Radio 5 Live at the MKM Stadium

Here at the MKM Stadium there are so many stories. Do we call this the Marco Silva Derby, The Liam Rosenior Derby or maybe the Tom Cairney Derby. It's a special day for Hull who celebrate their 300th FA Cup tie.

The celebrations will be enhanced if Liam Rosenior can cause an upset against the Premier League side who have more then held their own in the top tier following promotion last season.

    Ipswich v Rotherham

    Marc Webber
    Final Score at Portman Road

Welcome to the Cameron Humphreys derby at Portman Road as two players with exactly the same name line up in opposing teams. An FA Cup first? 8 changes for an injury and illness-ravaged Ipswich; only one for Rotherham United, but they can’t fill the bench such is the lack of bodies there. In all honestly, both teams could do without this game as both need to handle stuttering recent league form.

    Fleetwood v QPR

    Richard Wolfenden
    Final Score commentator

The wind really is really swirling around Highbury up here on the Lancashire coast, it should make for an exciting battle for QPR this afternoon. But is there a more FA Cup third round image than floodlights peering over terraced houses? I think not.

  14. 'We made a world-class player score a world-class goal'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Portsmouth

Portsmouth's interim boss Simon Bassey speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm really pleased with them, we limited a top side and made a world-class player score a world-class goal.

"Our shape was good, we had good energy and offered a threat early in the game. We tired, which is understandable, but I'm really pleased with the players.

"Tottenham took the game away from Palace in 23 minutes the other night, they can do that to you. But our players limited them to very little. When Harry Kane has to pull that out of the bag, it says something.

"We probably lacked a bit of quality in our final delivery, we nearly got in behind twice, but we were just on the wrong side of those little moments today."

  15. 'We came here to win and we are through'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Gillingham 0-1 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho speaking to BBC One: "At first it was a bit difficult, in the first half. They had six people in the line so we could not break them down. In the second half they came out to play a bit so we found the space and broke them down.

On what Rodgers said at half-time: "He said we should be patient and keep moving the ball quickly from side to side and to take risk around the edge of the box.

On his goal: "It's just instinct as a striker. People around the box already so Vardy running at the front post, I was thinking he might cut it back so I just waited around at the edge of the box for sa cut back and then it came me and I finished. I thought he might cut it back and then it was a sweet finish.

"This gave us momentum to go to the next cup competition. We are playing Newcastle. Sort of revenge because beat us in the Premier League. It is not going to be easy but fingers crossed we will go there and fight to out last breath to make sure that we win.

"It's important to get the momentum. It's a difficult team as well. We came here to win so that's what we need to do. It is 1-0 but it doesn't matter so we are going through."

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter on what last season's run to the fifth round has done for the non-league side:

"It's transformed the club. It's allowed me to build a new hospitality suite, create a new fan zone, give the manager a couple of bob and look ahead to next summer and pre-season.

"It's incredible what the FA Cup can do for you. It gives you a brighter future."

  17. 'Owners moral compass is being rewarded'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

Boreham Wood v Accrington (15:00 GMT)

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm going to be honest with you, I don't know League One or Two, I know the National League inside out. Accrington have some incredible players. Their manager [John Coleman] should have a statue for every year he keeps them in League One.

"In the Covid year I was probably one of three managers where the owner gave us 100% wages. I genuinely believe the footballing gods are looking down on us. They are rewarding his moral compass. He's got a massive black hole from that. I genuinely feel from those actions we're having a little bit of joy."

  18. Kane 'trying not to think' about club recordpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-0 Portsmouth

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a tough game. We were clear favourites and people probably expected a bigger score but credit to them, they stayed compact and made it difficult.

"It was tough. We thought after the first it might open up but they stopped us getting the second one. It's good to get through - that was the objective - and we'll see who we get next.

"I think we said at half-time to get a few more players further forward because there was no real threat from them in behind. We got the goal at a good time."

On his goal: "I wanted to get on the ball more so I dropped into that space, played a nice one-two and the space opened up."

On moving one behind Jimmy Greaves' club record goal tally: "I try to not think about it. Sometimes you can think too much. Obviously I feel in good form and I feel fit. My mindset is to help the team and hopefully the goals will come."

  19. 'Forest owner deserves credit for patience'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

Blackpool v Nottingham Forest (15:00 GMT)

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was always going to take time for Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest. It was just a question of how quickly he could get them to gel.

There was always a question mark over how many of the players he wanted.

You've got to shout out Evangelos Marinakis because it would have been really easy to pull the trigger but they were patient with him and they are getting their just rewards.

Like their National League rivals Boreham Wood, Chesterfield are also making an appearance in the third round for the second successive season.

The Spireites lost 5-1 at Chelsea, then European champions, this time last year.

The Derbyshire club, managed by former Wolves midfielder Paul Cook, have beaten League Two Northampton Town and AFC Wimbledon on their way to setting up an attractive home tie with five-time winners West Brom.

It is the first time Chesterfield and West Brom have met in a competitive fixture since 1948.
