Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle (18:00 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Sheffield Wednesday have to have confidence and they will be backed by a big crowd so they will look at the Newcastle team and fancy their chances today.

There has been a goal in the non-Premier League ties.

National League side Wrexham have taken the lead against Coventry of the Championship.

Striker Sam Dalby heads the Welsh side in front and silences the home crowd at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The other two games - Grimsby Town v Burton Albion and Luton Town v Wigan Athletic - are goalless.

  3. Postpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

There's the best piece of action so far. Brentford's Keane Lewis-Potter, on the right side 25 yards from goal, hits a low first-time ball around the corner and it falls to Yoane Wissa, but Lukasz Fabianski has to make a good save to keep the ball out and send it behind for a corner.

  4. Postpublished at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

It's absolutely chucking it down in west London, the pitch is heavy and that's making the passing slow. It's been a poor, poor 12 minutes of football so far.

  5. Postpublished at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

Michail Antonio tries to burst clear for West Ham with a bustling run from the halfway line but he gets to the edge of the penalty area before running into three red and white shirts and the Bees clear.

  6. Postpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

It's a heavy, muddy pitch at Brentford and neither side has tested the opposite goalkeeper. Jarrod Bowen gets a bit of space down the left channel and claims a corner, but doesn't get it as the ball bounced back off him after a home challenge.

  7. 'This is a fantastic competition and another fantastic day'published at 17:33 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Blackpool 4-1 Nottingham Forest

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "This is a fantastic competition that I have been quite fortunate to experience fantastic days in and this was one of them.

"I think the [clinical edge] is something we have lacked over the last five or six weeks since the break. We knew Nottingham Forest would have their chances but it was about putting blocks in, forcing shots wide and Chris Maxwell would have to make good saves. We rode the storm out at 1-0 and once scored the second we showed more freedom.

"We have gone on spells this season where we score three goals a game and then go on a little bit of a drought. What I will say is Morgan Rogers and Josh Bola back, Keshi Anderson who will return to the group and we want to bring two or three more players in before the window shuts.

"We are working hard to be hard to beat but at the same time we get players into great positions we just have to be more clinical.

"The fans have been great but we haven't given them enough at home but it isn't through the want of trying."

  8. Postpublished at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Brentford 0-0 West Ham

Tomas Soucek gets a whack on the knee from Kristoffer Ajer. West Ham, in a Premier League relegation battle, have named a strong side today and really don't need an injury to one of their key men.

He's OK to carry on at the moment, but one to monitor.

  9. Next up...published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

We've had games at 12:30 GMT, we've had games at 15:00 GMT and now it's time for the next batch of matches...

    • Brentford v West Ham
    • Coventry v Wrexham
    • Grimsby v Burton
    • Luton v Wigan

Then at 18:00 GMT it is the Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle tie, which you can watch on BBC One.

  10. 'We need to improve quickly'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 2-4 Burnley

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was disappointing, you can't legislate for individual errors like we've made.

"The rest of the performance isn't important because the silly three goals we conceded are irreparable. If you're going to concede goals like that you can't win football matches. We need to improve quickly, there's a lot going on and we need to improve quick.

"We found a foothold just after half-time but then we give away another ridiculous goal just when we'd got in it. Three ridiculous goals to concede at home makes it impossible to win football matches.

"If you score two good goals at home like we did that should be enough to win. We review today, we make sure we improve, we have a massive game next weekend. We will get where we need to get to."

  11. When is the fourth-round draw?published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

Winning teams won't have long to wait to discover who they face in the fourth round. BBC One will show the draw live on Sunday at approximately 16:05 GMT before the tie between Manchester City and Chelsea.

Mark Chapman is set to host the draw, with Emile Heskey and Karen Bardsley picking out the balls.

Heskey won the FA Cup with Liverpool in 2001 and Bardsley is a three-time FA Cup winner with Manchester City.

The fourth round is scheduled to be played between 27-30 January.

  12. 'It continues the journey'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 2-4 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany speaking to BBC Sport: "It's a long trip so it's always good to get a win. I'm delighted with the performance, it allows us to continue on our journey.

"It was a good team performance, I thought all the finishes we had were on the basis from a very good press and team effort.

"They're happy, the players have the right to celebrate. But it's the same for us to do every weekend. The process after the game is to debrief and get back into the work routine. We'll be doing that again.

"I think you treat the FA Cup the same as the league. There wasn't too much consideration on workload because the games were sufficiently apart. We felt we wanted to do well in the competition.

"Like we saw in the League Cup, eventually come the big dogs and then it becomes really difficult. So we will take it game by game. We will always try and win whoever we play."

  13. 'Blackpool brilliant, Forest poor'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Blackpool 4-1 Nottingham Forest

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on Final Score

Forest were poor in front of goal – they should have probably scored more. At 2-0 I though they would come back and draw this but they just didn’t look like they could finish.

Blackpool were brilliant going forward and scored some great goals.

I’m sure Steve Cooper will be very disappointed but from Michael Appleton’s point of view, build on it – that’s the momentum they are looking for, playing in something different, a breath of fresh air.

  14. 'Credit to the team today, they deserved the win'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Middlesbrough 1-5 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer and World Cup winner with Argentina Alexis Mac Allister, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Living the dream, very happy but credit to the team today they played really well and we deserved the win.

"To be honest I wanted to come back, the club gave me to the fifth but I came back earlier because I wanted to train, play and share my medal with the club. I feel very happy to be a part of this club and to be in this city so I will continue to give it my all."

  15. Fatigue to blame for late levellerpublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    FT: Chesterfield 3-3 West Brom

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Final Score

Chesterfield put up a great fight and it was an end-to-end game against West Brom.

West Brom made 11 changes and we thought there might be an upset but Chesterfield fatigued a little bit and the goal they conceded late on was a bit of a lapse in concentration.

  16. Postpublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

Brentford v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

Brentford have won just one of their last 19 FA Cup matches against top-flight opponents (drew four, lost 14), a 2-1 win over Sunderland in January 2006. They were eliminated last season by Everton.

West Ham manager David Moyes has progressed from nine of his last 11 FA Cup third round ties, knocking out Leeds last season. His only previous cup tie with Brentford saw his Everton side go out on penalties in a League Cup third round tie in September 2010 after a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle make eight changes from their 0-0 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Eddie Howe said he would welcome the fixture congestion that a cup run would bring on Friday.

Only Sven Botman, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton keep their place, while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is straight back in after being recalled from a loan spell at Manchester United.

Record signing Alexander Isak returns too, having not featured since 17 September with a hamstring injury.
