    Tottenham 0-0 Portsmouth

Fine defending by Zak Swanson at right-back, and his hard work is rewarded as his block on Ryan Sessegnon's cross rebounds onto the Spurs player and goes out for a goal-kick.

One shot apiece after 25 minutes, but no attempts on target from Spurs.

    Gillingham 0-0 Leicester

Halfway through the first half at a blustery Priestfield Stadium. So far so good for League Two Gillingham.

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton

And now we have jeers from the away end.

The travelling Saints fans, who have battled a rail strike to be here in decent number, are not happy as an aimless ball forward trickles through to Palace keeper Vicente Guaita.

    Mutiny is in the air.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton

Palace so close to doubling their lead!

Wilfried Zaha's flick releases Michael Olise down the left and his low ball into the middle is met by the outstretched boot of Odsonne Edouard, but only on to the bar and away.

It is all Palace. Relentless. Southampton are clinging on.

  5. Postpublished at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Tottenham 0-0 Portsmouth

When Portsmouth do get forward they're moving the ball around nicely - it's just that final quality pass that's lacking when they manage to get Spurs on the run.

At the other end, Ben Davies' attempted cross is closed down but rolls out for a Spurs corner.

The first one is cleared and the hosts will have another chance to test the League One side's resolve. That's also dealt with.

It's about Portsmouth taking the game in stages. They've got through the first 15-20 minutes unscathed and looked a threat when they've been getting the ball.

Gillingham need to get the ball out wide and put crosses into the box. That's what will trouble Leicester.

  8. Postpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Tottenham 0-0 Portsmouth

Cheers from the away end as Ryan Sessegnon can't prevent a pass going out for a goal-kick.

Safe to say one set of supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are enjoying this current scoreline a lot more than the other...

  9. Postpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Gillingham 0-0 Leicester

Neil Harris will be delighted with this start. His Gillingham side have restricted their Premier League opponents to just one attempt on target in the opening 15 minutes.

Kasey McAteer goes down inside the box and Leicester want a penalty. There is no VAR and the play goes on.

  10. Postpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2023

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton

It's one-way traffic. Michael Olise tries to get in, in the Saints box, but sees his pass inside blocked.

JLeagueJourneys: Southampton absolutely in the mud. Nathan Jones needs to go asap, awful appointment. At least when we went down with Redknapp there was a bit of fight - this is just pathetic.

First chance of the game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium as Reading's Femi Azeez's cuts in onto his left and fires a shot just over against Watford.

By the way there was a great minute's applause at the start of Reading's match with Watford in memory of Gianluca Vialli who managed the Hornets for a season.

At Deepdale, Preston's match with Huddersfield has been largely uneventful.

Liz: Just switched Spurs on and I can see they have changed the entire team... apart from Son and Kane. I feel sorry for those guys. Their only two world-class players, never get even a second off. It must be completely exhausting.

It's a really good start by Portsmouth. They look confident in possession. Tottenham aren't a pressing team so they'll allow them time and space on the ball so it's important that Portsmouth take advantage of that.

The Palace fans are bouncing now. I'm sure they're trying to keep warm as much as they are enjoying having taken the lead.

Palace are dominating this. Saints can barely get a kick.

Brendan Rodgers will know that Leicester fans hold this competition in high regard. They have won it and they will want to win it again. They know that Premier Legaue survival is not done and dusted yet but looking like it is solidified.

Some glory like the FA Cup would be absolutely splendid for them.

Reeco Hackett just released himself there, looking to get in support of the strikers. It was a clever finish in the end, a difficult one as the ball dropped over the ball of him. He got a good connection on the strike to force the save.
