Based on that first-half performance and the fact the transfer window opened today, what do you want to see from your club in this transfer window, Spurs and Villa fans?

Nottingham Forest v Chelsea (16:30 GMT)

Don't forget, we have more Premier League action after this game as Chelsea travel to Nottingham Forest looking to follow up on their victory against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Forest were beaten by Manchester United on the same day and are looking to get themselves out of the relegation zone.

A point would actually send them well on their way to doing that, that's how tight things are down at the bottom of the league.

  3. Kane thwartedpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

It was a frustrating first half for Spurs striker Harry Kane.

The England captain has had just 16 touches - 11 fewer than any of his team-mates, and only Villa striker Ollie Watkins has had less.

He has attempted six passes too, but only completed two of them, as shown below.

Still, he's come the closest to breaking the deadlock though. Can his side get him more involved in the second period?

Nick: What's happened to Spurs? For a couple of years they were such an exciting, dynamic team.

Alan: When folks criticise Spurs and how they play they tend to exempt Kane but he is part of the problem. Spurs in attack are so slow and one of the reasons for that is Kane. He is so slow.

Rachel: Spurs are like a rubbish kettle. Taking over 40 mins to come to the boil.

It has been disappointing. Both sides really haven't had much quality out there. The game was pretty much played in spits and spurts, lacking real quality.

It was really just that one opportunity for Harry Kane in that first half. Both sides lacking cutting edge or a spark.

Thanks to Ashley Young's last ditch defending to head that effort off the line, Aston Villa are still in this.

Kane is too slow for the modern game. Spurs should sell him at the end of the season and get fresh legs in.

It was quite a wide shot from Buendia, I don't think Lloris was really troubled.

Aston Villa win the ball back in the middle of the park and Emiliano Buendia has options in the box but opts for an ambitious shot from just outside the area.

    Bit of a desperate effort.

Son overhit the free kick, he was looking for that whipped in cross that someone might have been able to get their head on but in the end it was an easy take for Olsen.

Doug: If Spurs don't win anything under Conte they might as well have Big Sam as manager. So defensive!

Lee: For all the talk about Conte's future I for one would be happy to see him go. The football has been boring, turgid and the players just don't seem very happy at the moment. It feels like we've been slowly going backwards.

Jon: Spurs are clearly the better team in this game but are just being completely out-worked. Villa want this so much more, any one-on-one test of will or strength so far has been a no contest. Our players spending far too much time throwing themselves on the ground and looking for fouls. GET UP AND GET INTO THE GAME!

Free-kick in a dangerous area and Son Heung-min goes for goal.

It's on target but there's not much power behind it and it's a simple catch for Robin Olsen.

Really nice passing at the edge of the box from Spurs. Son's pass is just slightly in front of Kane.

Kane's movement doesn't allow him to get the touch on the ball that he needed to.

If a goal is going to come it feels like it will come from Spurs at the moment.

Some good play around the edge of the area allows Son Heung-min to chip a little pass to Harry Kane in the box and it's a cracking opportunity for the England forward, but there was just a bit too much on the pass for him to toe-poke it in.

Son has his hands on his head after that one.

It had to come from Perisic, he is the one player in this game who looks like he can change it.

It is an out and out jump for the ball between Kane and Konsa and Kane beats him and then it's some last ditch defending on the line from Young.

  18. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

Ivan Perisic makes a superb run and he's one on one with goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who forces him out wide.

He manages to get the cross in to Harry Kane and Ezri Konza goes up for the header with him but doesn't manage to get there.

But Ashley Young rescues his side with a crucial header off the line.

First real sign of anything from Spurs.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is allowed to run through midfield and plays it out wide to Ivan Perisic. Son Heung-min is also in the mix but again Spurs are lacking creativity to find an opportunity.

  20. 'Both sides lacking quality'published at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Mark Schwarzer

There isn't anyone out there at the moment who is showing any bit of quality. Any kind of calmness or intelligence on the ball and it has really shown.

Both sides have been guilty of it.
