  1. 'Mitrovic was decisive for us'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva to BBC Sport: "I believe [their recent form]. We worked really hard to achieve it. The noise [celebrations] from the dressing room is something normal. It shows team spirit, something we have been creating and building from last season. It was a moment for them to celebrate. But from tomorrow we have to prepare for the next one.

“It was a tough match like we expected. We started brilliantly. We showed our quality, desire and commitment, controlling the game. In the first five or 10 minutes we had two chances. We started so well. At half-time we deserved the result.

"The second half was completely different with the quality they have. Three games in nine days, it made a huge impact in the game. We were not so good on the ball. They created some problems for us. We showed great commitment. Mitrovic was decisive for us - fighting, helping his team-mates.

“That was a really tough challenge [Ndidi on Mitrovic]. The referee didn’t see it in the way he should have. After he scored it was an amazing moment for ourselves. Great assist from Willian. It showed Mitrovic’s quality. Top player, top man, top professional. In the other box he was decisive.”

  2. 'We created more'published at 22:10 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers: "It's a very small squad and to be fair the players have given everything.

"For the first 15-minute period we were on the back foot with players coming in at the last minute and that led to us conceding the first goal.

"After that I have to give me players great credit. Their keeper made some great saves, I'm really disappointed for my players because they gave everything.

"We created more opportunities tonight. Unfortunately Youri [Tielemans'] strike hit the bar.

"You just continue to work hard. The players will continue to fight and work hard. We have to look forward and keep our mentality.

"We'll see how we are in the next day or two and assess where we are with those injuries.

"Hopefully we can get some strength in January. There's not a lot of money but maybe there is some to do with what we want to do."

  3. 'Ferguson can become a great striker'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Everton 1-4 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi: "I didn't like the first half but the game was difficult because Everton is always a good team. In the second half we played better. We played well.

"There were some problems in the first half. We have to improve. I am happy for the result for sure but I am honest. We have a lot of space to improve.

"The players were fantastic in the second half.

"I have to analyse the performance not only the result. 4-1 was a fantastic game but I have to be honest and clear with my players."

On 18-year-old Evan Ferguson: "He can become a great striker. He has a big potential - physical and technical. In our team my work is to help the young players to progress."

James: Terrible behaviour from Arsenal and the manager today. Really not acceptable and should result in a heavy fine and a ban for Arteta. Especially when most decisions went in their favour.

Eddie: Proof if you ever needed it that Arsenal can't sustain this title challenge without signings this January. The board need to do their business early as a matter of urgency - I absolutely do NOT want to see those Murdryk negotiations dragging into next week!

  5. Postpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

    Leicester City

Leicester's Ayoze Perez: "It's frustrating. We were on a great run before the break. As soon as we came back we wanted to carry on with the same form. But we're not finding the results.

"We could have got something at Anfield. Today we should have got something. I will take playing bad and take the points all day. We need to improve in many areas and get points as soon as possible.

"We know we can do much better than this. We deserve to be much higher."

  6. 'A very good defensive display'published at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports on the late penalty appeal: "Obviously at that stage of the game you're thinking 'god no, the lads have given so much' and that would have been a travesty for us. I didn't think it was a penalty but you just never know. I'm delighted and me and Mikel are fine.

"I think it was a very, very good defensive display and great mentality from the group. You saw good teamwork and a collective effort. I think Arsenal are very good and pose different problems so we knew defensively we needed to be rock solid.

"I don't think there were many periods in the game where we were totally OK. We did have our moments - I don't think we were great on the ball - but we had our moments to potentially nick it on the counter-attack or with a set-piece.

"We settled down after 15-20 minutes and started to play but Arsenal are a top side and we did well in the second half as pressure grew to be resilient.

"I was a little disappointed we couldn't pose more of a threat. We could have done a bit better with but the lads gave everything.

"Our defensive performance has been very good and that's full credit to everyone. We wanted to attack the game and be ourselves. I don't think we quite were but that's credit to Arsenal for forcing us deep.

"The next step for us is to have a little bit more quality on the ball but we're looking to improve all aspects of our game.

"At the moment we are taking it day-by-day. We have a strong group of players but we will assess what we need in January. There are no intentions iminently to improve the squad but that may change.

"There's no race from our perspective, it's just about continuing to improve and that's our main goal."

Nick: Lampard, like Gerrard is out of his depth at this level. Everton looked like they just turned up and tried to wing it. All over the place tactically.

Anon: People talking about Lampard's position but what about Rodgers?

  8. 'We could have had three points'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

    Leicester City

Leicester captain Youri Tielemans: "Very frustrated. We created some really good chances, we should have scored. We were really unlucky - we could have come home with three points.

"Today, apart from the start, we did really well.

"I thought it [his shot] was in. It was off the bar. Very unlucky.

"We don't need to get carried away or emotional. We played a good game and now it's up to us to score goals and win games. With performances like this it will come.

"I'm here doing my football, living my life and giving the best of myself."

  9. Postpublished at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored 106 league goals since joining Fulham in 2018 - the joint-most in the top four tiers (alongside Liverpool's Mohamed Salah).

  10. 'We're happy with the point'published at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Dan Burn speaking to Sky Sports: "Huge. Arsenal are really good and are a tough team to figure out. I think we did really well and weathered the storm for a bit and it shows how resilient we've been for probably the past year. When we're not playing at our best we're hard to beat.

"Bukayo Saka is a great player and he can go both ways. The wingers helped us a lot to double up on him. We got to grips with it as the game went on. We've got a good mix of young lads and experienced players in the team so we grew into the game. We're happy with the point.

"We're believing in the philosophy. We're all working for each other and it was really important to get that clean sheet tonight.

"I think you've got to [frustrate them]. A lot of people expect you to let them win. There's a lot of ways to win a football game. We managed it well."

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    Man Utd 3-0 Bournemouth

Siriki Dembele rattles the Manchester United crossbar late into added time with what looks to be an overhit cross. It matters not though, the hosts have another three points in the bag.

Six straight wins in all comps for United who stay fourth level on points with third-placed Newcastle, who have a better goal difference.

  12. 'We want to keep the dream going'published at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic: "It was one of the hardest games we played this season. They're a really good team. We had to grind really hard and I think we deserve it.

"I have five-goal targets. I want to try to reach 15 first and then we'll see. My fifth yellow card today and I will miss a couple of games. I'll try to rest.

"Tonight we showed we can work really hard and fight for each other. We left everything on the pitch and deserved three points.

"It's amazing. When you get promoted the first target is to stay up. I feel we can do a little but more. We don't think ahead. We stay with both feet on the ground. We'll see what happens at the end.

"We love playing under this manager. This is a dream for us. We want to keep the dream going."

Ant: Even as a none Everton fan, Lampard must go or they are going down. Great players don't automatically make great managers.

James: I'm not saying Lampard shouldn't be criticised, but why would any half decent manager go to Everton? Since Moyes left every single one has had their reputation ruined, the position is a poisoned chalice. Lampard had something to prove after mediocre experiences (I think he did alright at Derby and Chelsea), but like everyone before, there was no way it would work and now no one will take him.

Simon: Lampard's last game I think. You know it is over when you pull off a great result and then get thrashed the next. No consistency and no hope with him at the helm.

  15. 'Buzzing'published at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    FT: Everton 1-4 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton's teenage striker Evan Ferguson: "Great result, obviously, bouncing back from last week [defeat to Arsenal]. It was probably the best we could ask for.

"We came in at half-time and knew could do better and knew we had them. We came and tried to give our best. Luckily the goals came through."

On his second goal in as many games after a consolation against Arsenal: "It's a lot better when you can celebrate and not go pick the ball up. Buzzing with the result and getting another goal.

"I feel comfortable. Being in with lads every day, they push you. You have to keep working and working. It is good."

    FT: Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

As a supporter you come to a stadium and you watch two teams empty the tank like Newcastle and Arsenal have done here this evening you have to walk away thinking 'I've got my money's worth'.

We've had no goals and from the outside you could look and say it was a bit of a dull game but it wasn't. Both teams gave absolutely everything, there was fatigue but there was hardly a mistake on the pitch in terms of key errors. It was a really high level game, not enough goal action and those quality moments in front of goal but a really entertaining hard fought match from both teams.
