  2. 'We're champions for a reason'published at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    FT: Man City 3-0 Wolves

    Manchester City

Man City defender John Stones, speaking to Sky Sports: "Really good, we always have a difficult game against Wolves. They are very organised and athletic. We had to be patient to get that goal today and break them down. I thought we did so well after the other day. Especially in the first half we weren't at it and the manager made that clear.

"We knew today we had to hit the ground running and get off to a good start, playing with tempo and that set the game.

"I didn't see the comments from Pep. But I knew what he said to us at half-time and what he wants from us and what he knows we can do and us as players when you are not playing as well as you can and in the second half we came out and showed it but it was too late but we got the win.

"Today we knew that we had to do that from the off and we did. The patience and desire was there and we were scoring goals and creating chances. Obviously a clean sheet is massive now.

On Erling Haaland's performance: "That's his quality. I'm so pleased for him again. He just keeps coming up with the goals. We have had a lot of good goals from different players coming off the bench, starting the games. Riyad [Mahrez] the other night. I don't want to just put it all on him. We all need to chip and we are doing but when he score three in a game it's difficult!"

On Haaland being happy to be substituted: "Knowing Haaland as a person and how he is around the training ground and in training, I think that's why we 've been so successful over the years. Haaland scored three goals, we kept a clean sheet. Julian [Alvarez], what a replacement to come on the pitch."

On catching Arsenal: "I think it's just about us, I've said it plenty of times. We can be our own worst enemies at times. We have to be focused. We can see where we are and keep taking it game by game. We are the champions for a reason and we want to be champions again so we have to put ourselves in the best place possible. Keep winning games and getting clean sheets and see where it takes us."

    A January transfer coup?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says new signing Leandro Trossard "fits everything we want" and has backed the Belgium international to have an instant impact.

The 28-year-old forward joined the Gunners from Brighton on a deal which runs until 2027, with the option of a year's extension.

"We are really happy to have him," Arteta said.

"He is a player that we have followed for a while now. The opportunity came and we have a necessity to have a player in the front line that is versatile enough to play in different positions.

"He knows the league, he has enough experience here and I think he can have an immediate impact in the team."

  4. 'We are moving in the right direction'published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    FT: Leeds 0-0 Brentford

    Leeds United

Leeds defender Luke Ayling, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we played well today. I don't think they had a shot on target and we kept them in their half for pretty much the whole second half. We just couldn't find that final shot or goal, but we are heading in the right direction. We are happy with today.

"We have our game plan to stick to and we did that in the second-half. We kept them in and just that final ball, that final play, didn't go for us. That has been the case a bit lately.

"We played well at Villa, had a good performance in the week and again today."

Leeds forward Jack Harrison: "They are a tough team to break down. They play a deep block and make it difficult for teams to penetrate them and score goals. We tried our best today with different ways - crosses, one-twos - but it didn't quite come off. We fought hard to the end and managed to get a point.

"Points are crucial for us at the moment. We would like to get as many as we can and would have liked to win but we take the point, move on and get ready for the next game."

Everybody knows Man City have the squad, the manager, the set up to repeat yet again. Four titles in five years that they have won. It is a huge problem to beat them. Once you've got the opportunity, you've got to take it, you've got to be consistent.

We all know if Man City win and Arsenal win, I think it might just come down to the game against each other at the Emirates and at the Etihad. So it's huge stakes football. It's been a long time since Arsenal have been involved in games of this magnitude.

  7. 'Easy day at the office for Man City'published at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    FT: Man City 3-0 Wolves

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Lovely goal from Haaland in the first half after the ball in from De Bruyne to set the goal up. Second half, Wolves changed the system and made the three changes. They came into the game early on and caused a couple of problems.

Neves mistake, brings down De Bruyne for a penalty, Haaland is clinical and then a mistake from Jose Sa and again clinical from Haaland.

An easy day at the office for Manchester City.
