  2. 'Momentum is going in the right way'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Newcastle haven't lost a game in 17 and are fourth in the league so it was always going to be tough to win the game. I felt we deserved to. We had the better chances. The longer the game wore on, we looked to win it. A bit disappointed we didn't take all three points but the positives are that we improved again and the performance was better than last week. We have some key players back and look a threat. They are a together group that are willing to work as hard as you ask them to. We have some quality to cause teams problems.

"People tend to get carried away when you lose or when the performances are better. I am always level on it. We need to win football matches. Performance wise we picked up some momentum. We were down to bare bones for the Forest game, with young lads who don't even train with us on the bench. We picked up a point and nearly won it, we pushed Brighton close and then the same today against a good side. Momentum is pushing in the right direction. We need to keep it that way and out more points on the board.

"It was a lovely set-play that worked. Fair play to all the guys. Defensively we were solid from set-plays against a side who score a lot. It was good performance. We have more tools now to go and hurt teams.

"It is easy to feel hard done by. The penalty at Brighton, the ball that doesn't go over the line today - that is football. You make your own luck. You take every point in the Premier League. Remember where we have come from and are a newly-promoted side that have suffered a lot of injuries."

  3. Almiron into double figurespublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron has scored 10 goals in 22 Premier League games in 2022-23, one more than he scored in 110 appearances in his first four seasons in the competition beforehand (9 goals).

  4. 'It is a point gained'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a tough game. Very competitive between two good teams. Bournemouth have a lot of energy and athleticism and I thought we dealt with them pretty well apart from the goal and a couple of other scary moments for us.

"We had a lot of the ball. Bit disappointed in the final third not as many clear-cut chances as we would like and a lot of half moments where we could have done better but I think it was a fair result.

"There were some really good moments but that final pass or action where you need the quality and coolness of our brains to be working and they weren’t quite there apart from the goal which was a really good finish.

On not winning without Bruno Guimaraes: "I can understand that. He is a top quality player and you are going to miss your best players. There was a little bit of a reshuffle with injuries to a few key players but that is something you have to live with over a Premier League campaign. I think we have done well to navigate another tough away game and the unbeaten run goes on. It is a point gained and there should be a lot of positivity."

On reception from Bournemouth fans: "To get the reception I got at the end really was really moving. I spent so long here it was a huge part of my life. It was nice to have that moment with them.”

  5. Ouattara makes a quick impactpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara was the first player to assist a goal in both of his first two home Premier League appearances since Saïd Benrahma in November 2020. With today his 21st birthday, he was also the youngest player to achieve this in the competition’s history.

  6. 'The point could be massive come the end'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we did well. In certain moments, Bournemouth are good on the transition. They defend well and break forward and we have to be aware of that. This is a tough place to come and the most important thing is that we don't get beat and it is another point that could be massive come the end.

"We didn't start strong. We knew Bournemouth would come out of the traps quick. They are at home. Overall we are happy but we have so much to work on.

"I lost my man. It is not like us but it is sloppy, myself included. We have to go again. We get ready for another game next week.

On his late goal-line clearance: "It was just instinct. Decided to get back on the line and try to affect it. Thankfully I did."

Newcastle clearly have a problem scoring goals. They need a goal scorer as Wilson and Gordon aren't it.

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto and midfielder Philip Billing speaking to Sky Sports:

PB: “It was a good point I think still we can be a bit disappointed. It was a good game. I think we had chances and we could have avoided their goal so we should be disappointed with not taking all three points. They are a good side.

“They are a very energetic side and we knew we had to be up for it and match it and we did that very well. We knew we had to defend well as a team, we looked dangerous going forward and overall a bit disappointed but we go again. I thought it was in and the goal signal wasn’t working.

"We defended well, looked dangerous and started to look like a proper team. We take the one point and will try and build on that in the coming games.

Neto: “We understood the game. They are a tough club and team. We created many chances and had opportunities to win but we have this point and will keep going this week. I am very proud to be here. The captain is the choice of the gaffer and I am really happy."

I'd rather take a loss right now, sick of these draws as they show no signs of progression & Eddie Howe is content with draws. A loss would give us all the opportunity to rebuild & start again. 2023 Feels like Bruce-ball all over again.
