  1. 'Wow, what a performance'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to BBC MOTD: "Ah, I'm more pleased with the performance. Wow, what a performance. I asked them to perform potentially the best of their season and I think we were up there.

"We can celebrate that. We didn't get three points but we can celebrate the performance. It was even more impressive the way we came back.

"We were going here to the Emirates to face Arsenal at home. When you get those three big chances [in the first half] you have to score at least one. If we had gone in front then I think we have a bigger chance of winning the game but still, a good performance.

"It shows what these boys are about. Top characters who care and fight for each other."

On VAR decision: "It's one of those tight situations that luckily fell our way. I understand where they are coming from but I don't think [Ethan Pinnock] is hugely affecting in that situation so I hope it stands."

On unbeaten run: "It's usually the 'big clubs' that have those spells so it's incredible and says a lot about the players and staff. We are pleased and hopefully we can keep adding layers."

  2. 'The players played like heroes'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I think it was a very hard match against a good team. They scored before us and we suffered a very unfair sending off for Mario Lemina.

"In the end we suffered, it was very difficult but we worked in a very good way, we tried to draw and then to win and it was a very good win for us. The players showed they have a big heart. They want, they run, they suffer.

"I know about their character. They have shown me in this match. Today was very difficult but I clap them today. They show today [they played] like a hero.

"It is a good reflection from them because they are able to do better when they work very hard."

On match-winner Joao Gomes' debut: "It was a very hard match for him, his first and playing with one player less. But he showed he has character and personality which is why my club buys him. I'm happy for him."

We have been well below our best but found a way back in to the game. Two years ago under Bruce we would have folded. Game on now.

  4. 'Tomkins is a good example to our young players'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Brighton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I am really satisfied because it was a challenging game for us against a really strong team.

"Our discipline enabled us to get a point because Brighton were excellent today. They really made it difficult and stretched us. We stayed in the game until we got the goal.

"We needed [to be aggressive], the technical level of Brighton was excellent. I am really proud of the team and players. We were compact and our game plan worked. We knew the challenges at the start of the game because Brighton are doing really well.

On James Tomkins: "You have to perform by being really solid defensively and James showed his professionalism because he hasn't played a lot and Chris [Richards] was supposed to start but didn't with back issues and James came on and played well. He is a good example to our young players because he is always focusing and working hard for the team."

  5. 'We lack confidence'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-2 Wolves

    Southampton

Southampton boss Nathan Jones, speaking to MOTD: "Look, I'm feeling a lot of emotions really. I'm really disapponted. We had control of the game. When they went down to 10, we were a bit apprehensive but I thought we controlled the game.

"We had a glorious chance to make it two and we didn't and that seemed to galvanise them.

"We made substitutions to get more aggression and energy. We lack confidence. We had enough opportunities but lacked quality.

"I think the fans saw a team on the front foot and who created chances. We didn't get that second goal that was so vital."

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+3 mins

    Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    And there is the whistle.

Having struggled to break Bournemouth down for pretty much the whole half, Newcastle re-discover their edge just in time.

That completely changes the complexion of the two half-time team-talks and the nature of this contest.

  7. 'Almiron in the right place at the right time'published at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    HT: Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Well it comes from nothing really, Bournemouth have been so good in this first half.

The ball just drops down to Almiron who is in the right place at the right time following up.

Neto makes an excellent save but he just palms it down into the path of Almiron and he just guides it into the far corner. Big goal for Newcastle.

GOAL - Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastlepublished at 45+2 mins

    Miguel Almiron

    Newcastle finally show some ruthlessness!

Brilliant work from Allan Saint-Maximin keeps the ball in play and he is then able to set up Sean Longstaff in the middle for a shot at goal.

The midfielder's effort is good and palmed away by Neto, but only as far a Miguel Almiron, who makes no mistake on the follow-up.

A big blow for Bournemouth right before the break.

    Tame.

Alexander Isak gets in space on the left to receive a little flicked pass from Allan Saint-Maximin, but his low shot is easily saved by Neto. It is a shot on target, though. Newcastle's first.

If you'd told me that Newcastle were the team lacking in confidence and near the bottom, based on this showing I'd believe you. Unbelievably sloppy. Credit to Bournemouth who have given it a go, but Newcastle haven't half helped them!

Bournemouth have been excellent, especially out of possession.

They are really aggressive, stepping in, winning the ball back and breaking quickly.

They are causing Newcastle a lot of problems.

Allan Saint-Maximin has found himself in some dangerous positions, but each time he can't deliver an effective final ball. His latest effort, aimed towards Anthony Gordon in the box, is easily headed away.

It does look a little bit different in that midfield area. Initially it was just Joelinton sitting and Longstaff and Willock playing as number eights.

Now it looks like Longstaff and Joelinton are almost going to play as a double pivot and Antony Gordon is going to go in as a number 10.

Newcastle continue to see a lot of the ball, but space is at a premium in the Bournemouth half and they are lacking the invention to pick any of it.

  15. 'We knew it was only a matter of time'published at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2023

    FT: Fulham 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Even in the last three games when we haven’t won, we did really well. We were really unlucky against Newcastle and against Tottenham we were on the front foot most of the game. We knew it was only a matter of time [before we won again]."

"The first 60 minutes we were much better, but Forest showed a normal reaction for a Premier League game. These type of things happen. With better decisions and better finishing, we would have killed the game. Hitting the woodwork three times is not normal.

"They made some changes. [Emmanuel] Dennis created some problems and Bernd [Leno] showed his quality with a great save."

On Willian: "I’m demanding more from William – he needs to score, not just assist. The finish is top – he’s a top-class player."

On Solomon: "[The goal] is really important for him. 2022 was a really unlucky year for him. I know him really well and I know it was a tough season for him, not just the injury, some things before the injury too.

"He has the quality. He needs more time to train and get better."

The first goal is so so important in any game. Bournemouth have given themselves something to hold on to. Still a long way to go into this game.

You see it so often from teams now when they set up from defending corners where they don't really have anyone on that far post and that's where the ball was glanced on to.

Senesi just wanders into that area and takes full advantage of Newcastle not having a player there.
