Liverpool 2-0 Everton
This is more like it from Cody Gakpo and Liverpool.
The Dutchman pounces on a loose ball and gives it to Mohamed Salah, but a low shot is straight at Jordan Pickford.

Liverpool 2-0 Everton
Almost brilliant.
Much better from the home side, Cody Gakpo bursting forward and finding Darwin Nunez.
The striker takes it first time, leaning back and curling a sumptuous strike just wide of the far post.
Liverpool 2-0 Everton
A change for Everton on the hour mark.
Ellis Simms barely made an impact, he is replaced by Demarai Gray.

Sean Dyche suffering from Frank Lampard's terrible recruitment. Dele Alli, Donny Van De Beek, Neal Maupay, Dwight McNeil, etc - Sean Dyche has to find something in these players no one else has managed to.

Liverpool are purring now.
Mohamed Salah looks like his old self, feeding Darwin Nunez but the Uruguayan's initial shot is blocked by Jordan Pickford before sending the rebound wide.

This is so much better from Liverpool. Tempo, aggression, winning second balls. That's the basis of a winning performance and Liverpool have done that which is a massive change from what we've seen for the last six months.

Everton's board feel able to attend Anfield after staying away from the last two home games at Goodison Park. It is fair to say the current expressions of chairman Bill Kenwright, CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale and former striker Graeme Sharp suggest they wish they'd given this one a miss as well.
Liverpool 2-0 Everton
Liverpool are ripping Everton to shreds with their breaks.
But this time Jordan Henderson cannot get a cross right, sending it over the bar.
Liverpool 2-0 Everton
Everton just don't have much up front.
How costly will the decision not to sign a striker in January prove to be come May?

Slick move, the counter attack again. Everton will be so disappointed that Liverpool have been able to break through. Once the ball goes central, goes out to the right, the pace is there from Mo Salah. The ball comes right across the face.
At that point, Pickford no chance, Gakpo couldn't believe his luck. Right at the back post and a simple tap in. Liverpool were cut-throat, great tempo, the timing of the passing, the quality of the runs.
That's how they counter at their very best.
Liverpool 2-0 Everton
It started off well for Sean Dyche in his first game against Arsenal, but the Everton manager has a mammoth task in keeping his side up this season.
Cody Gakpo (48 mins)
That must be that.
It's a first Liverpool goal for January signing Cody Gakpo.
It's another scintillating break from Liverpool and Alex Iwobi's loose touch proves so costly.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is played in by Mohamed Salah and the right-back picks out the Dutchman to tap in at the far post.
VAR has a look but the goal stands.
Liverpool 1-0 Everton
That's poor from Dwight McNeil, way too long and it goes out for a throw-in at the other end of the pitch.
Liverpool 1-0 Everton
No changes but Everton will have to show more attacking intent in the second half.
They have another set-piece as Fabinho trips Abdoulaye Doucoure down the left edge.

Any way back for Everton?

Spearman went to Harvard University and worked at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.
He got involved with sports data when he worked at a performance analytics company in 2015 before going on to join Liverpool.

Phil: That half showed how weak we are up front. Simms doing his best but not at this level yet. Absolutely criminal we didn't get a striker in January.

High tempo, not so many chances Everton hung in there because Liverpool are pushing them back, they were more dynamic. Got into better areas after that set piece.
Tarkowski hitting Liverpool's post, the counter attack was clinical, it was quick, Pickford in no man's land in the middle of the goal.
It was quite comfortable for Salah to push the ball into the net, it's been quite dynamic, quite feisty, Liverpool felt they could have been further ahead.
Something to think about for Sean Dyche at half time.
Liverpool 1-0 Everton
A big team talk to give from Sean Dyche, his Everton side trail at the break against city rivals Liverpool.
