    Everton 0-0 Leeds

Dwight McNeil, revitalised under his old Burnley boss Sean Dyche, is straight into the thick of things again.

The Everton winger smashes a loose ball into the Gwladys Street. Chance? Half of one.

    Pat Nevin

It's very difficult for Erling Haaland because he is surrounded by four or five red shirts. That's fine. He may not get the ball, you shrug your shoulders and get on with it. As long as your team is winning.

  3. Postpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea boss Graham Potter made changes for the start of the second half with Wesley Fofana coming on for his first appearance since the start of October after recovering from injury. Raheem Sterling also comes on as Kalidou Koulibaly and David Datro Fofana make way.

Is it a cross or a shot from Ilkay Gundogan? Either way he curls one just wide from 20 yards.

  5. Postpublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Everton 0-0 Leeds

Looks like a HT substitute for Leeds.

Indeed it is. Denmark right-back Rasmus Kristiansen is primed and ready to replace Austrian centre-back Max Wober, who picked up a problem in the first half.

That means a reshuffle from Leeds caretaker boss Michael Skubala.

Skipper Luke Ayling, who signed a new contract this week, moves across from full-back.

A point is no good for either side at the moment.

Everton will fail to drag themselves out of the mire while Leeds will miss the opportunity to open up some daylight between themselves and the drop zone.

If bottom side Southampton can hang on at Chelsea, that will be a monumental result at that end of the table.

Dennis Ethan: James Ward Prowse is the King of the Freekicks

BOOM! Ward-Prowse, the best free-kick taker in the world. Another step closer to Beckham.

    Alex

At some point Chelsea are going to need to accept that Potter is not the person to get the most out of an incredibly expensively assembled side.

The main thrust of the half-time highlights is the scuffle at the end of the first half.

That tells you a lot about the quality of the on-pitch action.

Everton will feel they should be ahead. Leeds were really poor.

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on Final Score

It’s what we have become used to with James Ward-Prowse. This is the ideal situation for Southampton. Now they have something to really hold on for and maybe even start their season.

Potter will get the blame as manager but the owners should be questioned too. All that money they’ve spent and they haven’t remotely got close to rectifying the scoring issue they had even before all that spending including not signing a proper goal scorer that they’ve needed for a couple of seasons. Awful spending.

    Paul

Looks like Leeds or Southampton will both be in the hunt for Graham Potter come Monday.

    Chris Wise
BBC Radio 5 Live commentator at the Amex

Brighton have been really good to watch, but without the end product.

Without Mitrovic, Fulham don’t have a focal point. They’re struggling to get themselves up the pitch without him.

Unbelievable free-kick. The way he gets it up and over the wall with bend and dip so it comes back down, it is unbelievable. He’s proved for years that he is a set piece specialist and it is a fantastic goal. It’s probably deserved on the balance of play.

  17. Postpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

James Ward-Prowse is back defending now to head away a Ben Chilwell free kick, and that's the last action of the half as the half-time whistle is greeted by boos from the home fans.

A very familiar story for Chelsea.

Manchester City deserve the lead and are playing really well. The goal was as beautiful a strike as you will see. In fact Kevin de Bruyne would have been proud of it.

    No goals, not much action.

Another strong candidate for that unwanted final slot on Match of the Day.

Ding ding. End of round one. And plenty more, erm, discussions as the two sets of players head down the tight Goodison tunnel.

Can't see the canvas bulging though.
