Chelsea manager Emma Hayes speaking to BBC Two: "You could see from the opening minutes that it was like an ice rink down the sides. Matt Beard was upset that it even got to point and he's right.

"It's not for managers to decide if it's on - it's up to the FA and officials. We have to say to ourselves that it's time for undersoil heating. We've got to take our game seriously. Yes, we can have our blowers and pitch tents but it's not enough.

"The game should never have started. Everyone wanted to get the game on but when you have got emotions of teams wanting or not wanting to play, that's when you need a decision from above. The FA weren't here - they need to be making the decision.

"It wasn't playable at 9.30, so they said to give it until 2. There was a section that was quite hard, so they put blowers on it. They tested everywhere else and it wasn't too bad, but as soon as you take the covers off it becomes a different situation.

"On top of that, the temperature hasn't changed. When the sun rises and you get your feet on the grass, sometimes it can change - but it's a block underneath and not playable. I saw Niamh Charles slip. I understand; we have to put player safety first.

"We've made progress with investment into the quality of grasses and surfaces across the league. No game at the top level of the women's game should be cancelled. We need undersoil heating - we don't live in Barbados."

Jamie Ramage: Is it time to look at the grounds games in this league are played on?

Charlotte Swift: Absolutely horrendous! It should never have gone ahead!

LutonLeanne: My kids travelled to watch this game - absolute farce.

Dean Foster: Something needs to change… close to kick off. Early stage of game.

Ryan: I think Liverpool should be given the 3 points. It was Chelsea’s responsibility to get the pitch in order and they failed to do so. That have to forfeit this.

Will Joy: What a joke. You know the weather reports well in advance. Obvious it wasn't going to get warm enough to make the pitch playable yet the officials decided to let the game go ahead anyway for all of five minutes. Hope they refund the fans who showed up for the game.

Janet Mitchell: It’s not a good look for any women’s league where players and supporters are travelling. When will we learn we aren’t above Mother Nature. They’ve just admitted the pitch wasn’t fit at 9.30am.

It is very embarrassing, it is a shame for the travelling fans. They should have cancelled it before, the pitch was hard and I was dubious it would go ahead. But to start the game and then realise five minutes in it was dangerous to many players, is very embarrassing, it is not a good look.

Archsomnia: The WSL, FA, or whoever gave the go-ahead for this match has to do better. BBC saying FA overruled officials who said it was unsafe at 9.30am? That's so stupid. Should start the conversations about pitches and stadiums, tv coverage, and kick-off times.

Cassini / Cassiniro: Not a good day for the traveling Liverpool fans. Hell of a round journey for five minutes…

TDesborough: Embarrassing for this to happen at any level. Feel for the Liverpool fans who travelled down. These decisions have got to be made sooner.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard speaking to BBC Two: "The pitch is frozen and I don't know why it took 6, 7 minutes. It was frozen in the warm-up. You can clearly see it. I'm gutted for our fans. They've travelled down and it could've been postponed at 9.30. It shouldn't have been played in the first place.

"Whoever made the decision for the game to be on, it was put players at risk today. You saw Charles for Chelsea slip over three or four times. Campbell and Lawley down the side. At the end of the day, the game shouldn't have been played. He has eventually made the right decision.

"The game should have been called off this morning at 9.30am when it wasn't playable. We spoke about putting the game back to 2pm and they still run with it. I am always grateful for the fans support, especially setting off at 5am this morning. We started the game well which is frustrating."

I was just speaking to the Liverpool keeper, and she said the referee was counting the number of slips by the players in the first five minutes and it weas too dangerous for the players. It should have been called off before the girls came on the pitch.

It’s so disappointing that the decision could not have been made sooner, but you could see the players were skating around. They were tentative, no-one went to ground, the first was Erin Cuthbert – she fell to the ground and really felt it.
