    Liverpool

A lot of you have said Jude Bellingham for Liverpool.

Peppa: Would love to see the Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez with Liverpool. What a character. Reminded me of Bruce Grobbelaar.

Aaron: Sofyan Amrabat and Enzo Fernandez. Both look ridiculously good, would love Liverpool to get them both!

Drew: Every time Alphonso Davies picked up the ball he looked like he was going to make something special happen. Sign him, Liverpool.

Lee: Alexis Mac Allister was Argentina's key player. He ain't gonna be at Brighton in January and he was the man that pulled the strings for Argentina. Would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt in January.

    Chelsea

Oliver: Mohammed Kudus for Ghana really impressed me. Great with both feet, composed, strong, and with an eye for goal. Reminds me a little of Essien. Chelsea really need a bit of that in midfield right now.

Sanjo: Enzo Fernandez. He's a big step in the right direction to solving our midfield problems.

John: I thought either of the Moroccan central midfielders Amrabat and Ounahi were incredible and would make great replacements for Kante. I think Kolo Muani or Thuram, under the right guidance, could become great powerful strikers. They reminded me of Drogba. Gvardiol would make a great replacement for Thiago Silva when he leaves.

Andy: Although he wasn't a starter for France, Kolo Muani would be a great signing for Chelsea - just what we need to add some impetus and energy to our side.

England defender Alex Greenwood has signed a contract extension committing her to Manchester City until 2026.

Greenwood, who came on as a substitute in the final when the Lionesses beat Germany to win Euro 2022 in July, joined City from Lyon in 2020.

"Feeling settled at a club for me is so important and I absolutely have that here at City, I just love being here," said the 29-year-old.

"It's an exciting time to be at City, both now and for the future."

    Everton

Joe: I feel like we could get Dominik Livakovic or maybe Harry Souttar as they were very good at the World Cup and are in our price range.

Dale: Really liked Enzo Fernandez for Argentina, Randal Kolo Muani, the Japan players and Mohammed Kudus from Ghana.

Richard: Obviously a striker is needed to cover Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Maybe try for Kylian Mbappe?

Dave: Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

    Straight to the point, Dave.

    R: Bellingham for Arsenal!

Alastair: Josko Gvardiol playing alongside William Saliba in the Arsenal defence. Could be a perfect partnership for the future.

Caleb: I believe Arsenal should go for Mohammed Kudus, the attacker for Ghana who is an Ajax player. He is forceful and direct.

We asked you which World Cup star you would like to see your club try to sign.

Yes, we know Kylian Mbappe and his 253 goals from 363 games for club and country would do very nicely, thank you.

But let's bring a bit of reality to this hypothetical question shall we...

  7. How close did Man City come to signing Messi?published at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2022

"He had gone as far as having English lessons."

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed just how close Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola came to convincing Argentina World Cup winner Lionel Messi to joining him in the Premier League.

"About one-and-a-half/two years ago, there was a four-hour meeting between Pep and Messi at Messi's house," Balague explained to BBC Radio Manchester. "Pep told him how he was going to use him and City had all the finances ready to take him.

"It was around the time when he had told Barcelona he was ready to leave although he did not want to.

"He decided to stay put because he thought things would change and when he found out they were not actually going to renew his contract, it was too late.

"City had already signed Jack Grealish and so Messi went to PSG instead."

"The moment I got the note was nice, spent the evening with my family and processed the news.
