Gillingham have spent big in their attempts to secure their survival and one of the first tranche of signings, Tom Nichols, has put them 1-0 ahead in the huge game at home to second-bottom Hartlepool.

That's just their eighth league goal in 24 matches, but all of a sudden things seem to be looking up for the Kent side.

    Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

No goals so far at the Stadium of Light but the home side were reduced to 10 men just before the 20 minute mark when Luke O'Nien was shown red for a lunge on Ollie Cooper.

The home side have coped well since but will fatigue play a part later in the game?

Nick Powell's cross evades everyone and nestles in the back of the Sheffield United net.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Millwall

Boro are still pressing before the break.

Marcus Forss sees his short diverted over his own bar by Lions defender Shaun Hutchinson, and then another effort cannons behind off Danny McNamara.

    Preston 0-3 Norwich

Preston manager Ryan Lowe has not wasted any time in trying to change things.

Alvaro Fernandez and Liam Delap have been sent on for Ali McCann and Freddie Woodburn.

It's a North End debut for Delap with the Manchester City youngster moving to Deepdale after his earlier loan spell to Stoke was cut short.

They have been a bit better in the last few minutes. I'm not sure the home dressing room will be a pleasant place at half-time.

    Jeff Hendrick (42 mins)

Reading double their lead through the man who had a spell on loan at QPR last season.

Jeff Hendrick is the man on the spot to tap in from close range after Seny Dieng can only palm a fierce effort from Andy Yiadom into the air.

Hendrick only had one goal for Reading before today, and it's the midfielder's first double in eight years.

Grimsby are already a goal down at Swindon and now they are a man down too. Danny Amos has seen red for a professional foul just outside the box. Going to be a long afternoon for the Mariners.

Upwardly-mobile Stockport have taken the lead at home to promotion-chasing Northampton. Antoni Sarcevic slotted home to put the Hatters ahead against the Cobblers in this stylish clash of two ambitious sides.

Devante Rodney has put struggling Rochdale back on terms at home to Colchester. It's 1-1 at Spotland now.

    Burnley 0-0 Coventry

Coventry continue to press Burnley back.

Jamie Allen has had another attempt with his header just off target at the end of a flowing move while Kasey Palmer has seen his shot blocked.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins would love to have a tangible reward for their good football.

    Cardiff 0-0 Wigan

The closest we have come to a goal as Cardiff's Isaak Davies tries to lob Ben Amos from 25 yards, but the Wigan goalkeeper gets a crucial touch to turn it behind.

Remember, neither of these teams has won a match since Bonfire Night.

  12. goal

GOAL Luton 2-1 West Brompublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    Daryl Dike (39 mins)

It's been coming and Albion have a goal back.

It's an unusual one as Daryl Dike chases down a long ball which Luton keeper Ethan Horvath gets to first, but his attempted clearance cannons off the West Brom striker and bounces into the net.

The away side have been good since falling two behind in the first 10 minutes.

    Watford 0-0 Blackpool

There has been little action in this one since a chance for either side in the first 10 minutes, with Ismaila Sar hitting the bar for Watford.

Ismael Kone has just had a long-range effort saved by Blackpool keeper Chris Maxwell. It was a straightforward save.

    Burnley 0-0 Coventry

Burnley have not really got going this afternoon. The fans want a bit more urgency, but this Clarets side is all about patience and keeping the ball.

They have also seen Jack Cork get his 10th booking of the season. That means an automatic two-match ban for the midfielder.

Sunderland have been forced into a substitution following Luke O'Nien's sending off with forward Patrick Roberts sacrificed for Danny Batth to be brought on.

Despite being a man down the Black Cats are coping well so far.

  20. goal

GOAL Preston 0-3 Norwichpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    Kieran Dowell (28 mins)

This may well be Goodnight Vienna.

Josh Sargent slips a ball through the North End defence, Teemu Pukki runs on to it and squares for Kieran Dowell to make it three.

It is the first time Norwich have scored three on the road all season. This is more like the Canaries of 2019 and 2021.
