This is the first competitive meeting between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

Tottenham will have to produce a comeback after Brahim Diaz gave AC Milan a narrow win at the San Siro.

And Kingsley Coman repeated his 2020 final heroics as Bayern Munich beat Paris St-Germain. Benjamin Pavard was sent off for Bayern late on.

Scott Parker will make his Champions League managerial debut tonight in the Champions League.

The former Fulham and Bournemouth boss was appointed head coach of the Belgian side on New Year's Eve.

He replaced Carl Hoefkens, who was sacked despite leading them to a Champions League knockout spot above Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for everyone at the football club... to try and leave our mark on the competition," said Parker.

The former England midfielder has won just one of his seven league games in charge.

"Of course, the level of opposition we're going up against is completely different to [the Belgian top flight] and we need to respect that.

"We need to understand that we're going up against a very good side in Benfica, who have quality all over the pitch.

"We need to show ourselves, be competitive. We need to nullify any threats Benfica are going to pose to us. Hopefully we can expose and hurt a good side in our moments."

Sebastian Haller: 'It's important to tell it straight about cancer'

On 18 July 2022, less than two weeks after joining Borussia Dortmund, £27.4m striker Sebastien Haller pulled out of training after feeling unwell.

He had not felt quite right for a few weeks but thought it was a digestive issue, or potentially a hernia. Within 24 hours a testicular tumour was diagnosed.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international, who joined West Ham for a then club record £45m in 2019, had treatment which involved chemotherapy and two lots of surgery.

Never once did Haller doubt he would return. He did feel bad for Dortmund, though.

"I was thinking 'they have bought a player and after two weeks I can't play for I don't know how long'," he says.

"What a bad deal. Of course I wanted to come back and give back the support they gave me. This was really important. They gave to me before I could give something to them. I was sick and they gave me support.

"But I always knew that I would make it. A lot of it was mental and the second surgery made it a little bit more difficult, but I knew I would come back."

Is Graham Potter about to get sacked?

The short answer is no. Potter's future will not be determined by success in the Champions League this season or the team's ability to qualify next season.

Despite Chelsea's £583m spend in the past two transfer windows it has been made clear that the long-term vision of those in charge of the club is aligned with the manager.

Potter has won 31.2% of games in the league, the third-worst record at the club in the Premier League era - albeit only 16 games in. Chelsea are currently in ninth place - behind his old club Brighton in seventh. His predecessor Thomas Tuchel won the Champions League for Chelsea in 2021.

Former Blues striker Chris Sutton has said the job is "too big" for him and Potter himself said results "have not been good enough".

But the feeling at the club is that Potter has had to endure some unprecedented issues during his time in charge.

  8. 'Embrace the pressure, that is when good things happen'published at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2023

Borussia Dortmund v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Graham Potter speaking to BT Sport: "Kalidou Koulibaly is an experienced player and Hakim Ziyech gives us balance on the right. Ben Chilwell gives us a different profile on the left, we have been building him up in terms of fitness and he is ready.

"I thought [against West Ham] we attacked well, had good control and scored a good goal. We looked more like the team we wanted to. The challenge for us is that when we conceded a goal we didn't look as good but there were positive steps.

"You have to embrace the pressure and be grateful for it. You need the pressure, because that is when the good stuff happens. We are grateful for the challenge we have got here and we are looking forward to taking this on.

"You have to understand the crowd is there, you have to try to win the moment and block the external stuff out if you have a setback and get back on track as soon as possible, accept the crowd is part of it and deal with it."
