This is Forest Green Rovers' third appearance in the FA Cup third round, and first as a Football League side.

Swansea won 3-1 at Sunderland at the weekend to sit 11th in the Championship, but are only three points away from the play-offs.

“The team has been performing well but every time you pull on the shirt it is an opportunity for us to learn and improve," said Swans boss Russell Martin. "We will be going out there to win and try and set up another home tie in the next round.”

The Robins also recorded a victory on Saturday, beating Birmingham 4-2 at home to move six points away from the Championship relegation zone in 17th.

Wolves grabbed their second league win under Julen Lopetegui on Saturday. Given Bruno Lage and Steve Davis managed just one win each this season, the club's quick improvement under the new boss is clear to see.

The work-rate and determination of the team is something that didn't go unnoticed either. Wolves battled from the start and made life really difficult for struggling West Ham. Lopetegui's constant barking of orders and encouragement is great and the squad look much fitter and sharper than in the first half of the season.

On top of that, Matheus Nunes is starting to show why Pep Guardiola had labelled him as one of the best midfielders in the world. Nunes was criminally misused under the previous regime but, by deploying him in a slightly deeper role, Lopetegui has allowed the 24-year-old to show his qualities.

Mario Lemina also lifts the quality of Wolves' midfield. His 20-minute cameo on Saturday added some bite and physical presence to see out the win.

'Out of darkness, cometh light' seems to be an appropriate motto. A lethargic and disappointing first half of the season has quickly been forgotten. It's early days but Lopetegui's impact on this Wolves squad is putting a smile back on faces.

Sorry Liverpool fans, but this isn't even rock bottom. Rock bottom is coming in the next few months.

Those who've watched Jurgen Klopp's side this season knew what was going to happen at the Amex on Saturday against a young, hungry side full of players willing to run.

Previously, when Liverpool lost to supposedly lesser opposition, it was a smash-and-grab job, where the Reds would dominate possession and the chances but get caught on the break or simply struggle to break down a deep defence.

Brighton made a mockery of that. They were the better side in every single area of the field, owning more of the ball and being much better with it. Liverpool's midfielders couldn't get near Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, both of whom would walk into Klopp's team right now.

But, with Liverpool seemingly not spending any more this January, it's hard to see an improvement on these miserable performances until the summer, when a factory reset is needed.

Klopp has been loyal to these players and they've won him everything, but it's time to build another team capable of competing on all fronts because the majority he has available to him are categorically past it.

Preston North End manager and Liverpool supporter Ryan Lowe: "A lot of Scousers and Liverpool fans think the FA Cup is a fantastic trophy. Can this team go on and beat the Wolves team? Yes of course they can, but it remains to be seen. I would have liked to have seen some of the big hitters in there to get us over the line."

  20. 'Liverpool one of best teams in the world'published at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2023

    Wolves v Liverpool (19:45 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolves took the FA Cup tie to a replay after a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield but the West Midlands side were left angered when they had a potential winning goal ruled out for offside.

Wolves centre-back Toti thought he had scored to make it 3-2 but the linesman had deemed a player to have been offside earlier in the move - and the video assistant referee (VAR) had no camera angle available to provide any evidence to overturn the decision.

"Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world," said Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

"The quality of his [Klopp's] players, the coach, his history.

"I'm sure they're going to come here and look to do a big match. We have to be ready to overcome them.

"The FA Cup is going to be an important aim for them - us too - we have to fight to overcome one of the best teams in the world."
