  3. 'We deserved to take it to extra-time'published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Sportsound: "We needed so much to go right and do so much right ourselves to give ourselves a chance. We nullified the majority of their threat for long spells in the game. To lose a goal from a set-piece, when we've got good size and experience about us, is just really disappointing.

"We showed good personality and appetite and courage to get after them at the right times. You have to pick and choose your moments against Celtic, and we had to be smart with that. The players did so much right.

"It's not the right decision. It's a penalty kick at the death. The ball is quite flat, Giakoumakis can't get to the ball and he's put his arms round Joe Wright. I thought it was a penalty at the time and even more so having seen it back.

"I don't understand. We were told VAR would help the situation. I think VAR can at least ask the referee to have another look. Having seen it again, it is a penalty. It's a clumsy challenge. There's no point me speaking to the referee now. It's there for these big games. I feel that was a penalty kick and I'm so disappointed for the players because I thought we deserved to take it to extra-time."

  4. 'It was a challenge'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock

Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy tells BBC Radio Scotland: "It was a tough match. The pitch was soft so it was a challenge. We kept going and we're very happy. It's a semi-final, we scored first and they took a few more risks. They have big boys in their team so we had to be switched on. The weather wasn't the best."

  5. Postecoglou on Juranovic and Giakoumakispublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock

Ange Postecoglou on Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis: "You saw the clarity today. If people think he or Josip are distracted, their performance says it all. They were focused on what's before them today and they will be tomorrow. What is important is what I see every day and I see guys that are committed to this football club, training hard."

  6. 'My boys always find a way'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Sportsound: "Credit to Derek and his boys, they gave everything. It's a semi-final of a cup and that's what you expect. It was a battle today. Conditions made it tough, the pitch made it tough. Credit to my boys again, they always find a way irrespective of what the challenge is. They found a way again today.

"Battling is performance. Performance is giving the best you can under the conditions that are presented to you. There was never any chance that was going to be an open game. It was going to be a game of mistakes, battles. Credit to this group, they don't shirk away from that either. If they need to roll their sleeves up, they just do it.

"We haven't needed Joe [Hart] a lot but that's the beauty of him, he's an experienced campaigner. In the big moments he's there and we needed him a couple of times today. Their keeper pulled off a couple of good saves, too. Both keepers played their part.

"I am a lucky man, so maybe it filters through to the players as well."

  7. Should Kilmarnock have had a penalty?published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnock

This is the moment very late in the game when the Kilmarnock fans felt they should have been awarded a penalty. Ash Taylor's long throw-in was on its way in when Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis, who went on to clinch the game with the second goal, seemed to go through the back of Joe Wright.

  8. Tough day for Bernabeipublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

Bernabei is in the same position as Greg Taylor was. What a turnaround for Taylor, he has been one of Celtic's best players. Celtic miss him. Bernabei will get better. He's only a young man. The way the full-backs play, they are asked to go in to midfield and they will be vulnerable in behind them, so maybe it's the tactic rather than the individuals themselves.

It was a great game, I really enjoyed it. You don't normally get good games in a semi-final. Fair play to Kilmarnock, they kept going, kept defending and creating big opportunities. Celtic's class came out on top and when they had the opportunity to put the fresh legs on, those three players were involved to kill the game off.

Up until that, Kilmarnock could have got back into it and taken it to extra time. I thought Celtic deserved to win the game but when I compare it to last week, I didn't give Kilmarnock much hope. It didn't pan out that way, they competed, they were higher up the pitch. Danny Armstrong coming in helped them.

It was fine margins. Kilmarnock put in a brilliant performance, worked really hard, were disciplined and also posed a threat.

The Celtic fans hail their players and manager as they walk round in the rain. That was an entertaining match despite the conditions. It's the same score as the league game last week but Killie can leave Hampden with their heads held high.

It's a good save initially from Walker, but he's unlucky because he can only palm it into the path of Giakoumakis. He was there as all good strikers should be.

He won't care about being booked for taking his shirt off.

  13. FULL-TIME Celtic 2-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

It's a brutal ending for Kilmarnock as both teams take the applause of their supporters. Killie gave so much but it's Celtic who were the more clinical and it is the holders who progress to meet either Aberdeen or Rangers in the final.

    Quote Message

Kilmarnock have been really good today, they've been very disciplined. Derek McInnes has got his tactics spot on but they've also offered that threat going forward. The only criticism is they've not put the ball in the back of the net when they've had opportunities
