Kilmarnock have been good value this half, they've had better opportunities. They've been very disciplined, they sat in and made it hard for Celtic. The only opportunity was the goal and there's a huge amount of fortune in that goal for Celtic.
Derek McInnes' team talk will be more of the same. Stay disciplined, keep full concentration, because Celtic will come at them with pace and power. Kilmarnock know where they can exploit them, down the flanks in the transitional periods.

The change of Killie's shape, going to a back four, means they've been able to exploit the spaces Celtic full-backs normally leave and they've competed high up.
Lafferty and Vassell have worked hard to nullify McGregor in the middle of the pitch and they have, to a point. I haven't seen Kyogo run in behind once.
The tactics from Kilmarnock have been good and it's allowed them to create chances, which is key. They need to take their chances and get the goal.

Jota has shown his class in flashes but Kilmarnock defender Ben Chrisene has stuck to the task of nullifying the Portuguese winger's threat.

I think Kilmarnock can take an awful lot of credit for what they've put in. Celtic have done very little with all their possession, a lot of huff and puff. Kilmarnock have had the better chances. The goal itself was slightly fortunate. Beyond the goal, Celtic haven't tested the goalie or asked Kilmarnock questions.
Jota and Kyogo aren't figuring. Kilmarnock have adapted well.

Celtic are increasingly controlling this contest in horrendous conditions but you feel Kilmarnock will both congratulate and kick themselves on the basis of that first half.
They made it uncomfortable for Celtic right from the off with a change of shape and clear purpose to engage their opponents further up the pitch and exploit space down the flanks. It worked to a large extent.
However, as it has gone on, Celtic have held possession of the ball more and more. They are not testing Sam Walker in goal much at all but keeping their opponents on the back foot, minimising any threat.

[Carl] Starfelt has been absent-minded at times, [Cameron] Carter-Vickers has been a rock back there but there is weakness around him. Kilmarnock are a lot better than I thought they would be. Celtic are nowhere near their level. It's an interesting one. It's a tough game in brutal conditions.
Celtic have done enough to get themselves ahead and probably are worthy of it on the basis of their domination of the play.
However, just as in the league game last week, Kilmarnock have acquitted themselves well. They are disciplined and are spending a great deal of effort to stay in touch with Celtic.
They did have their chances, with Rory McKenzie's shot being turned round the post by Joe Hart and a Lewis Mayo header troubling the Celtic goal.

The rain is coming down like stair rods in Mount Florida in Glasgow's south side. The pitch will be very heavy underfoot. Celtic still look the lighter across the turf, always on the front foot.
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Kilmarnock have every player behind the ball as they try to limit the damage with half-time approaching. Celtic are pinging it left to right and back again without making too much of an advance. They eventually win a corner, but it's over-hit, and Killie go back to chasing the ball.
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Daizen Maeda clips Killie midfielder Danny Armstrong and referee Willie Collum immediately whistles for a foul. Armstrong did well to keep his balance, spin around and burst forward, all in vain.

Celtic are playing some nice football now, with Jota providing flicks and players such as Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate making off-the-ball runs to bamboozle the Kilmarnock defenders. Central defender Ash Taylor keeps the head and ushers the ball out as his Kilmarnock team-mates try to catch their breath.
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Liam Polworth is getting ready to come on for Kilmarnock, with Liam Donnelly struggling. The latter is going over to the touchline - let's see if the midfielder can recover from the knock.

The game is beginning to resemble the league game last Saturday, which Celtic won 2-0, with the League Cup holders switching play and the angle of the attack, but I reckon the Kilmarnock players are managing to close Celtic down that bit more quickly.

Here's a look at the goal that currently separates the sides...
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Carl Starfelt is being allowed to advance 20m when he steps out of defence but his pass to Reo Hatate isn't the most accurate. Kyle Vassell harries the Celtic back line to try to prevent them picking out the perfect pass. That's a tough shift for the big striker.

On the balance of clear chances, Kilmarnock will feel so hard done to.
They needed a bit of luck but it was posted missing with Daizen Maeda slightly fortunate to benefit from Kyle Lafferty's attempted clearance.
In fairness to the in-form Japan striker, he was in the right place and moving in anticipation of the ball falling for him. His contribution seems to be consistently growing since the Qatar World Cup.
Kilmarnock have had two or three real opportunities and have devised the game plan that gives them threat, something they lacked at Celtic Park. They have to take one soon though or the outcome feels inevitable, despite what they've offered so far.
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Jota shows enthusiasm for the task as he gratefully receives an incisive pass by Celtic's right-back Josip Juranovic. The Portuguese winger can't get enough of his foot round the ball and instead loops it into the air for Sam Walker to gather in the Killie goal.
Celtic 1-0 Kilmarnock
Celtic central defender Carl Starfelt, roaming into midfield, thunders into the back of striker Kyle Vassell who uses his experience to cushion the blow. Again, Willie Collum opts for a word of warning rather than issuing a card.

Quote MessageIt's horrendous luck. It's a decent ball into the box and Kyle Lafferty's actually clearing it out of danger and away from the goal and it's come off Daizen Maeda, who's behind him, and then into the back of the net
