  2. 'We're fighting for the fans'published at 22:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2023

    FT: Sunderland 2-3 Fulham

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray on BBC One: "Frustration in the dressing room. The last two goals we conceded were very unlike us but I'm really proud of the way we stuck in.

"I think the supporters deserve huge credit for keeping the players going. We're fighting for these people who come to support us.

"We started a bit tentatively but we pushed them and they finished with their strongest team really which I think is a credit to us.

"It's a fantastic test for them. We're trying to give the supporters a team to be proud of and who play good football. They got into some good positions and scored a couple of good goals.

"We were really disappointed it was only four minutes to go up at the end. We've been in games this season where there's been nine or 10 added on! It's almost laughable.

"Let's not blame the officials though, it just felt frustrating. We were causing a bit of carnage at that point."

  3. 'We want to create a winning mentality'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2023

    FT: Sunderland 2-3 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva on BBC One: "It was a tough game as we expected.

"There was more control than the first one. We didn't give up many chances in the first half.

"The pitch wasn't in a great condition to play one and two touch football.

"At the end of the first half, we didn't have the right pressure and because of that I made two changes at half time. It was important for us to score that second goal when they were coming at us in the second half.

"FA Cup ties are always difficult away from home but we're happy that we are through to the next round. It's important for us.

"We've been working hard to reach this level and create a winning mentality.

"I knew before the game that it wouldn't be the best, I made nine changes, but we are pleased."

On watching from the stands: "The view is much better and you can see everything in a different way but it's strange and, of course, I want to be near my players to feel the emotion of the game."

Sunderland are now winless in their last seven home games in the FA Cup (D3, L4), losing each of the last three in a row.

Fulham have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2016-17 season when they were eventually knocked out by Spurs.

Fulham have won four of their last five away games in the FA Cup (L1), with three of these wins coming when the Cottagers were in a higher division than their opponents.

All three of Harry Wilson’s goals in the FA Cup have been scored away from home, with the midfielder scoring or assisting three times in five appearances for Fulham in the competition (two goals, one assist).

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on BBC One: "I think we conceded two sloppy goals.

"Credit to them, they played really well, especially in the second half when they pressed us.

"In the end, we managed to get the job done so we are really happy.

"It was really hard to come off the bench but I got an assist. I'd have been more happy to get a goal.

"It was a good save from the keeper and Andreas managed to finish.

"I'm really happy overall with the result and performance."

On getting booed by Sunderland fans: "I love the reaction. I'm a Geordie boy."

"We're pleased and we know the quality we have in the squad but we're taking it one game at a time.

"We're in a fantastic position in the league and the cup has given lads who aren't playing in the league a chance to get minutes.

"Our main objective was to get through to the next round and now we know a tough game against Leeds will follow."

    Oh, hello?

Now, there isn't long left, but Sunderland still have a few minutes of stoppage time and young substitute Jewison Bennette has given them a chance.

It falls for him in the box and he coolly lifts it into the corner from close range.

A smart finish. Can Sunderland get one more?
