I have been so interested in Alvarez's positions over the pitch and going all over into the positions that Haaland won't go into. He is having so much impact.

It is asking questions for Arsenal's back four on how they are going to press.

Now Stefan Ortega throws himself at the boot of his own defender as Gabriel Martinelli's cutback takes a ricochet or two.

Arsenal are having a go here.

  6. Postpublished at 88 mins

Huge moment. City keeper Stefan Ortega races off his line to smother Granit Xhaka's through ball from the feet of Gabriel Martinelli.

Actually a replay shows Martinelli was offside so VAR would have disallowed it.

  7. 'Different type of game for City'published at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Nicky Weaver
Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio Manchester

This is a different type of game for City. Normally, their game is based on possession but the last thing they need is a replay.

  8. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Another corner as Gabriel Martinelli's cutback is blocked. Now it's just a throw-in.

  9. Postpublished at 84 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal win a corner as Kyle Walker heads behind.

Would the Gunners really want a replay, I wonder?

  10. 'Good effort from Alvarez'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Nicky Weaver
Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio Manchester

    Good effort from Alvarez.

Similar to his effort before the goal but the keeper got on it straight away.

  11. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Julian Alvarez tries to wrap this one up but his 25-yard effort is straight at Matt Turner, who has done well in the Arsenal goal tonight.

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

I feel like the pundits have enjoyed this game more than I have. It's been quite good but fairly forgettable.

  13. 'It has been exceptional'published at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio Manchester

    It has been exceptional.

I am interested to see how Odegaard is going to enforce his control on the midfield.

The pace, the tactical decisions and the discipline from both sides, especially Arsenal with the sticking to their plans. They were rattled by the goal - but more to come I think.

  14. 'I have really enjoyed tonight'published at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Nicky Weaver
Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio Manchester

I have really enjoyed tonight. It has been an interesting game.

When you come to watch City, nine of 10 times, the keeper plays it out short but tonight, it has been more old school and up to the big man up front.

A different game than you are used to seeing at the Etihad.

  15. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

City put a couple of crosses in but Matt Turner does well.

  16. Postpublished at 77 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

It's been a good while since there was any real pattern of play. Subs and fouls have broken this up.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 75 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Two good technicians coming on - and two excellent players coming off too.

Arsenal bring on Martin Odegaard for Bukayo Saka and City replace Kevin de Bruyne with Bernardo Silva.

  18. Arsenal must take riskspublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Arsenal have hardly been slow in going forward but now they really have to push for this equaliser. It will be a tricky balancing act with the lethal Erling Haaland ready to pounce if the Gunners over-commit.

  19. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Erling Haaland flicks a long ball on with his head but nobody is making the run behind him.

  20. 'Going to be an interesting last 20 minutes'published at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2023

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Nicky Weaver
Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio Manchester

It's going to be an interesting last 20 minutes. Arsenal are going to have to start leaving some spaces at the back.
