  3. 'The players have got to salvage something'published at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (0-1 agg)

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BT Sport

These players have got to salvage something from their season. They are still in the race for top-four and they can't let a dour performance like this impact the rest of their season. They have a massive game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend now.

  4. 'They should be doing better'published at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (0-1 agg)

    Peter Crouch
Former Tottenham striker on BT Sport

They are in the Champions League playing against a Milan side who they should be doing better against. That interview seemed like Antonio Conte felt they performed okay and it potentially needed more criticism. It was not good enough tonight.

  5. 'We felt a bit of pressure'published at 22:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham manager Antonio Conte speaking to BT Sport: "For sure in our mind it was to put pressure on with intensity but in the first half we found it difficult offensively. We found space to receive the ball and create one-v-one but we struggled.

"We felt a bit of pressure. I think they need to play regularly this type of game to try to improve.

"I think everybody wants to go to the next round. In the first game we lost a good chance. Milan was without important players, like us.

"We have to continue to work. We have another game that we have to recover for. We have to try to reach the best possible position at the end of the season."

  6. 'We had a step forward'published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte speaking to BT Sport: "That is the third game in a row that we were not able to score. I think the game was in the balance. I think we can do much better offensively. I speak about the whole team not only those who play in the front half. We can do much better.

"I can't tell anything negative about the commitment of the players. They gave everything from the start to the end. We finished the game with 10 men. But if I have to see a positive situation, it is that we had a step forward. We played in the Europa Conference League last year and weren't able to get out of the group stages. Now we took a step forward but it is not enough and if we want to be competitive, we have to fight."

  7. 'Tomori was faultless today'published at 22:47 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BT Sport

Fikayo Tomori was faultless today. His willingness to step in and make things uncomfortable for forwards was wonderful to see. There was an urgency about him tonight and he was really good today.

Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle on BT Sport: "I bet Cristian Romero was doing the same when he was 15.

"He hasn't learnt from it. His emotions go. It's the big games and he loses concentration."

  10. Postpublished at 22:39 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

AC Milan keep a clean sheet in both legs of a two-legged Champions League knockout tie for the first time since the round of last 16 in 2006-07 against Celtic.

  11. 'PSG won't be better next year'published at 22:37 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Bayern Munich 2-0 Paris St-Germain (agg 3-0)

    Steve McManaman
Former Real Madrid winger on BT Sport

PSG aren’t going to get any better next year. Lionel Messi will be a year older, Sergio Ramos likewise. Neymar can’t keep fit at the latter end of seasons. Marquinhos is getting on. The big players are going to have to move on. The coach will lose his job because that’s what happens.

  12. 'Conte deserves respect for fronting up'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

    Chris Sutton
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Antonio Conte has been through a lot and he could have taken tonight off but he wanted to be there and front up.

You have to give him the respect for that. Many may want to blame the manager but a few players have really fallen off a cliff.

  13. 'It's going to be a failure'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Bayern Munich 2-0 Paris St-Germain (agg 3-0)

    Joe Cole
Ex-Chelsea and England midfielder on BT Sport

The Paris St-Germain project was built to win the Champions League and they’ve been miles off it. They’ve bought some of the best players in the last 20 years.

The young French players scattered around Europe could be doing what these lads are doing for a quarter of the cost with an identity the fans connect with.

The PSG project ultimately looks like it’s going to be a failure.

  14. 'What is the point of top four?'published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch on BT Sport: "What is the point of getting top four if you're going to perform like this in the Champions League? I get there are financial aspects to it.

"The fans would like to see an FA Cup or a Carabao Cup win - a trophy. It's been so long. So to play a weakened team in the FA Cup - and the reason you rest the players is for the Premier League game - and you then lose that, then you're out of the Champions League.

"You're going for top four, but what for? They haven't performed in any game I've seen here in the Champions League."

  15. 'We didn't let them have time on the ball'published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Bayern Munich 2-0 Paris St-Germain (agg 3-0)

    Bayern Munich
    Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala to BT Sport: "I think we showed intensity throughout the whole game. We started the second half strongly.

"We didn't let them have time on the ball in the final third. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, we know what they're capable of. We controlled the game better. Overall it was a good game for us.

"We went through some tactical things to change up a bit [at half-time]. We had to up our intensity. When we do that we're very difficult to beat.

"[De Ligt's goalline clearance] brought us to life. Those little moments are key.

"We all have the mentality we can win this tournament. We just have to take it game by game."

On Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: "It's very fun to play with him. He's a goal threat and has presence in the box we need. He's an amazing player. He has the quality we need up front. He's a good friend as well. He's a good guy."

  17. 'Don't go out with a whimper'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan (agg 0-1)

    Chris Sutton
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tonight wasn't good enough against a team that many Spurs fans viewed as beatable. But if you are going to go out, then don't go out with a whimper.

The AC Milan goalkeeper had one save to make and that was in the last minute of stoppage time. There was a real lack of creativity by Tottenham.

  18. Postpublished at 22:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

No Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Harry Kane in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Big players missing out on big trophies. Kane's wait continues...

  19. 'PSG project hasn't worked'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Bayern Munich 2-0 Paris St-Germain (agg 3-0)

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Bayern Munich midfielder on BT Sport

They have such a talent pool around Paris. The project hasn’t worked. They’re no closer to winning the Champions League. Neymar will probably leave. Does Messi re-sign? Mbappe will probably leave. They should go and sign brilliant young French players. They don’t have a team who can win the Champions League. There’s a lot of individuals but no team around them.
