"I think everybody wants to go to the next round. In the first game we lost a good chance. Milan was without important players, like us.

"We have to continue to work. We have another game that we have to recover for. We have to try to reach the best possible position at the end of the season."

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte speaking to BT Sport: "That is the third game in a row that we were not able to score. I think the game was in the balance. I think we can do much better offensively. I speak about the whole team not only those who play in the front half. We can do much better.

"I can't tell anything negative about the commitment of the players. They gave everything from the start to the end. We finished the game with 10 men. But if I have to see a positive situation, it is that we had a step forward. We played in the Europa Conference League last year and weren't able to get out of the group stages. Now we took a step forward but it is not enough and if we want to be competitive, we have to fight."

"The fans would like to see an FA Cup or a Carabao Cup win - a trophy. It's been so long. So to play a weakened team in the FA Cup - and the reason you rest the players is for the Premier League game - and you then lose that, then you're out of the Champions League.

"You're going for top four, but what for? They haven't performed in any game I've seen here in the Champions League."

"We didn't let them have time on the ball in the final third. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, we know what they're capable of. We controlled the game better. Overall it was a good game for us.

"We went through some tactical things to change up a bit [at half-time]. We had to up our intensity. When we do that we're very difficult to beat.

"[De Ligt's goalline clearance] brought us to life. Those little moments are key.

"We all have the mentality we can win this tournament. We just have to take it game by game."

On Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: "It's very fun to play with him. He's a goal threat and has presence in the box we need. He's an amazing player. He has the quality we need up front. He's a good friend as well. He's a good guy."

Tonight wasn't good enough against a team that many Spurs fans viewed as beatable. But if you are going to go out, then don't go out with a whimper.

The AC Milan goalkeeper had one save to make and that was in the last minute of stoppage time. There was a real lack of creativity by Tottenham.

No Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Harry Kane in the Champions League quarter-finals.
