Tottenham are a huge football club and performances should be the same every week.

Yes, certain games give more adrenaline, but you should be going out for a club like Tottenham at your most every week.

All the big games in springtime and yet they're shouting for players to get themselves up for certain games? The inconsistency is there for everyone to see.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte: "You know very well that for me this season represents a success if we fight.

"If we fight to be competitive to win something - I think that this has to be our target.

"Tottenham as a club has to need to have this target every season to fight for something important. To fight to win.

"To win is not easy and I think we are in a country that is the most difficult country to win something.

"Every season I want to be competitive to win something. If this doesn't happen then it's not positive for me."

The stakes are huge for Tottenham tonight. Come through this last 16 Champions League tie against AC Milan, and this season is very much alive. It will also act as fuel for their top four tilt in the Premier League.

Lose and it will only shine more light on the future of manager Antonio Conte and even striker Harry Kane, who is already being linked with a summer transfer to Manchester United if Spurs are not playing in the Champions League next season.

It's all on the line with a tense night in prospect as Spurs try to reverse a 1-0 first leg deficit.

    Anna Howells, Spurs XY, external:

Football will always have its ups and downs. It’s important to celebrate the good times and not to get too distraught by the bad, but try to learn from them.

I do feel like this season has been a lot more turbulent with a lot less learning from mistakes.

We had two nice London derby wins, kept clean sheets and for the most part played good football. I was starting to get hopeful that the season might end well.

However, last week quickly put an end to that.

Instead of trying to win the FA Cup tie early and then rest players, we opted to change the line-up and have players who haven’t played together much try to get the job done. We failed at that.

Presumably, this was a tactical decision to ensure we play our best at Wolves. The first half was OK, but we didn’t respond to their half-time changes and, by the time we made our first sub, they had made all five and had the momentum in the game.

Besides the baffling coaching decisions on the pitch, perhaps more alarming is the fact we don’t know what the future looks like for Spurs - is it with or without Conte?

  9. 'PSG more balanced without Neymar'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

Paris St-Germain are without Neymar, who is set to be out for the rest of the season because he needs knee surgery.

"It's a loss, clearly. Is the team more balanced? Yes. Is it better like this? I will say that having him is better to score goals," said PSG boss Christophe Galtier.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann added: "The absence of Neymar does not change things too much. The fact that Kylian Mbappe plays from the start does change things."

  10. 'Finest night of Potter's Chelsea'published at 18:50 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2023

FT: Chelsea 2-0 (agg 2-1) Borussia Dortmund

Graham Potter gazed at the floor as Kai Havertz stepped forward in the moment that had the capacity to release the pressure valve that has been tightening on Chelsea's manager.

Potter's Chelsea were charged with turning around Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 lead from the first leg of this Champions League last-16 tie and Raheem Sterling's first-half goal put them halfway there.

Here, however, was Havertz standing over a re-taken penalty with tension at such a boiling point around Stamford Bridge that Potter simply could not bear to watch as the German stepped forward.

The thunderous roars and the bearhugs from his backroom staff delivered the good news and Chelsea went on to close out a win that was, without question, the finest night of Potter's troubled time at Stamford Bridge.

"The players are looking forward to it, under the lights in our stadium and we have to give everything to make the fans, the club and us proud."
